Argonne National Laboratory is seeking to hire a Department Director for the Energy Resources and Demand department of the Energy Systems and Infrastructure Assessments (ESIA) division. ESIA is a part of the Advanced Energy Technologies directorate of Argonne National Laboratory.
In this position the candidate will perform technical, economic, and environmental analyses of energy and power systems, develop and apply methodologies and tools for techno-economic analyses of energy technologies and systems, including electricity generating technologies, energy storage, building technologies, demand response, distributed energy resources, industrial technologies, and other energy technologies and conversion processes. Tools include computer modeling and simulations, energy analysis algorithms, economic and financial models, and building and industrial technology modeling. Analyses include analyses of energy resources and demand modeling and simulation, engineering economics and finance, life cycle analysis, optimization and equilibrium analysis, impact analysis, and technology assessment. Personnel have education and/or experience in engineering, economics, or related fields. The successful candidate will provide technical direction, leadership, coordination, and support for research of energy and environmental systems, including the analysis of energy resources and demand, and for the development of research programs. Management responsibilities include managing technical staff, project planning and management, and program development. Program development responsibilities include identifying potential research areas and opportunities, developing laboratory's expertise and capabilities, and pursuing funding from sponsors. Technology leadership responsibilities include planning and leading research and programs that include the development and application of computational simulation tools to evaluate and analyze energy technologies and energy supply and demand systems from the perspective of cost and performance, end-use requirements, environmental impacts, and socioeconomic issues.
**Position Requirements**
+ Knowledge of electric power systems and electricity markets, both traditionally regulated and competitive wholesale markets.

**Description**
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead mechanical design project teams in Richland, WA to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of equipment and infrastructure projects that will primarily support the local Department of Energy (DOE) complexes (e.g. Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and Hanford).
Other projects may include municipal, power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, and military facilities. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the project technical team throughout the design and construction process, adapting mechanical plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs. They will serve as a liaison for coordinating, managing, and executing project work across all ANF offices through direct communication with corresponding Section Managers. It is anticipated that they will have direct contact with our local clients in managing discipline specific work under Basic Ordering Agreements (BOA's) and large Federal budget line-item projects.
+ Lead the mechanical design of projects from the conceptual design phase through completion of construction for project managers' needs and requirements.
+ Prepare mechanical equipment: packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, Request for Qualifications (RFQ's), technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
+ Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings, data interface with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers, and designers.

**Responsibilities**
+ Develop and execute a business plan to establish a scalable program administration practice, including go-to-market strategy, service offerings, staffing, and financial targets.
+ Lead capture and proposal efforts for program administration contracts with utilities, state agencies, and other entities.
+ Partner with internal engineering, evaluation, and data analytics teams to ensure programs are data-driven, equitable, and aligned with emerging market and regulatory priorities.
+ Establish and maintain relationships with clients, regulators, and industry partners to identify new opportunities and position the firm as a trusted program administrator.
+ Oversee operational excellence, ensuring compliance, data integrity, and achievement of savings and participation goals.
**Qualifications**
+ 10+ years of experience in energy efficiency, clean energy, or utility program administration, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
+ Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, business, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
+ Proficient in MS Suite applications.
+ Proven experience launching or scaling new business lines or programs.
+ Strong understanding of utility program design, regulatory requirements, and stakeholder engagement.
+ Excellent leadership, communication, and business development skills.
