Imaging Specialist Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Imaging Specialist to join our radiology team at DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan.

As a key member of our imaging department, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic radiological exams utilizing appropriate imaging equipment. You will verify patient identity and review their medical record for appropriateness of exam or procedure.

  • Interview patients to obtain, verify or update medical history and assess risk factors such as medications, pregnancy and/or psychological indicators.
  • Explain procedures to patients, including side effects of pharmaceuticals administered, risks, benefits, alternatives and follow-up.
  • Set up equipment and acquire appropriate images as per script.
  • Review images, make initial observations, document exceptions from established protocols and communicate data to radiologists.
  • Recognize and respond to medical emergencies as appropriate.
  • Provide physician-prescribed post-care instructions to patients.
  • Participate in process improvement activities within radiology practice, including quality of care, patient flow, reject-repeat analysis and patient satisfaction.
  • Provide imaging education to residents, student technologists and new employees.
  • Able to take call/standby as required by the department.

Required Qualifications:

1. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiography (R).

+ Performs all routine aspects of MRI procedures, including but not limited to QC, start-up procedures, signal-to-noise test scans, program/sequence selection, contrast injection, and image processing.
+ Prepares and administers the appropriate oral, intestinal and I.V. contrast media or as appropriate, assists the radiologist with I.V. Contrast administration.
+ Ensures that correct and required patient identification information and left or right marker appears on all images.
+ Centers tube and film to area of interest.
+ Explains the exam/procedure to the patient in-order to solicit cooperation and obtain patient understanding.
+ Assesses the patients history and overall condition and makes the necessary modifications in technique and/or positioning to compensate for pathology or other considerations.
+ Selects appropriate coil for requested exam and positions coil (i.e., head coil or knee coil) to demonstrate area of interest and to obtain maximum transmit and receive signal, selects monitoring devices and support equipment as required by patient condition.
+ Obtains optimum MRI imaging throughout the entire region of interest by selecting and applying imaging parameters such as but not limited to: field of view, number of slices, slice thickness, number of excitations (acquisitions), repetition time, echo time, phase direction, frequency direction, matrix and gap between slices.
+ Performs tuning procedures, utilizes appropriate protocols for producing optimal images.
+ Identifies artifacts if present and rectifies problems.
+ Recognizes the need for additional sequences, changes in protocols and the need for paramagnetic contrast studies based on patient pathology, physical condition or sub-optimal image quality.
+ Apply MR interventional, magnetization transfer imaging (MTI), echo planar, spectroscopy, maximum intensity projection, cine and perfusion/diffusion imaging.
+ Enters into computer system specific data such patient history, anatomical area to be scanned, orientation specified.
+ Keys commands to specify scan sequences in computer and adjusts transmitters and receivers, views images of area being scanned on video display screens to ensure image quality.
+ Archive images to PACS.
+ Utilizes a knowledge of proper patient/part positioning and department protocols to obtain routine and other indicated views required for standard projections.
+ Critiques images for diagnostic qualities and other properties such as artifacts and appropriately consults with supervisor and/or radiologist to clarify any areas of uncertainty.
+ Completes requisition with all required and pertinent information.
+ Complies with all required continuing education standards.

+ Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of, and ability to perform required mammography Q.C. for mammography according to the requirements of the State of California and Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) Utilizes mammography equipment appropriately to perform Q.C. Functions.
+ Observes Regional and department safety policies.
+ Considers the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation process in delivery of services to patients of the age group served. Assesses data reflective of the patients status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and provides the care needed in accordance with department policy. Adjusts technical factors relative to the requirements of the study. Modifies patient positioning techniques relative to the patients physical and cognitive abilities with special consideration to the nature of the procedure and the patients ability and willingness to cooperate under the tense circumstances. Selects alternate or additional views appropriately relative to the patients condition or findings seen on the images. Produces high quality diagnostic images that (1) are free from artifacts or blurred images caused by motion.; (2) demonstrate the area(s) of interest (3) exhibit the optimum contrast/exposure needed to differentiate various types of normal and abnormal tissue ( e.g., mammary, muscle, fat, lymph).
+ Documents clinical activities in a timely, comprehensive and accurate manner and maintains documentation as required by ACR, MQSA, State of California Department of Public Health (CDPH)
+ Completes and signs the standard consultation form and/or the processing of imaging records accurately and immediately following each procedure.
+ Accurately documents all pertinent information regarding mammography and clinical breast examinations.
+ May be required to perform routine radiographic examinations as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

+ Minimum 1 year recent experience (within the last 12 months) as a Radiologic Technologist including the performance of routine mammographic examinations/procedures in an acute care medical center, outpatient breast center or other FDA-certified facility.

Responsibilities

Operate a scanner to obtain images used to diagnose and treat of pathologies.

Responsibilities

Operate a scanner to obtain images used to diagnose and treat of pathologies.

  • Prepare and position patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately to produce
    cross-sectional images of the body.
  • Perform patient pre-screening, scheduling, and education related to the examination.
  • Enter and monitor patient data, transfer images from disk to magnetic media to produce the transparency, and develop film in an automatic processor.
  • Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensure prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
  • Ensure equipment is properly functioning.
  • Report potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department.

Requirements

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • One or more of the following required:
    • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
    • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Magnetic Resonance Imaging credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Education:

  • High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's
    degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Additional Preferences

We are looking fro someone with the following experience:

  • At leaset 3 years MRI experience
  • Prior hospital MRI experience
