**Summary:**
This role will provide care and oversight of the broad patient population seen across the Diagnostic Services areas. This role will support the efficient operation of the department by transporting and/or directing patient flow and by ensuring patients are properly prepped and readied for their exam. This role also performs ECGs for the ED and inpatient population. As a Diagnostic Services Technologist, understands and integrates into the delivery of patient care in regards to their growth and development process. The position actively supports the Hospital's and Department's Continuous Quality Improvement and customer service goals, individually and as an effective team member. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and ICARE values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

**Required Job Qualifications:**
- Formal Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA) training and certification is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and good typing skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
- Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills and be able to maintain a high degree of professionalism while working in a high-volume, high-stress environment.
- Should have experience with computerized office systems, medical records documentation, patient confidentiality regulations, and medical terminology.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Bilingual (English-Spanish) a plus.

**Responsibilities:**
- Provides basic care needs of the patients while in Diagnostic Services Department in support of the Nurse or Technologist.
- Escort patients, as needed, to and from various modalities in a manner that supports efficient utilization of departmental resources.

- Performs IV starts and/or phlebotomy as determined by MD protocol using the technique defined by RUMC policy and under the direction of the Radiologist/Cardiologist supervising the diagnostic exam.
- Performs Visual Field exams on inpatient population.
- Obtain baseline vitals, document them in EPIC and notify the appropriate (tech/nurse)
- Responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly environment and for the wellbeing and safety of the patients under their care as well as that of family members and/or visitors within the Diagnostic Services area.
- Report any incidents, accidents, or inconveniences involving patients to the Tech/Nurse on duty as well as the Department and be prepared to file a full and detailed incident report as needed.
- Monitor patients for contrast reaction, distress and hypoglycemia; notify Radiologist with any concerns.

Sets priorities and functional standards, giving direction to staff as necessary to ensure the best possible delivery of service and high customer/patient satisfaction.
  • Drives department service standards and activities to impact department and/or system score for patient/customer-based satisfaction, through role modeling and fostering accountability. Serves and actively participates on various entity committees as a voice for the department.
  • Sets goals and objectives and develops an implementation system to reach those goals. Ensures creative and futuristic planning for health care delivery. Collaborates with medical staff, executives, hospital leaders, and hospital staff to assure goals are in congruence.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Ensures a safe and effective working environment; monitors and/or revises the department safety plan and/or any specific accreditation/regulatory required safety guidelines. Responsible for staff maintenance of credentials and competencies, per accrediting/ licensing agency and/or department guidelines as applicable.
  • Employs a proactive approach in the optimization of safe outcomes and information systems by monitoring and improving the department workflow and enhancing operations, using peer-to-peer accountability and identifying solutions via collaboration. Implements process improvements utilizing tools such as lean principles. Role models situational awareness, using teachable moments to improve safety.
  • Responsible for employee compliance to policies and procedures and performs associated actions upon non-compliance (i.e., licensure/certification compliance, focal point review requirements, disaster plan, in-services, influenza immunization, wage and hour, standard hours, timely termination submission, timely timecard approval, etc.).
  • Ensures compliance with all Business Practices standards of performance. Defines and measures standards that ensure patient safety and performance excellence. Responsible for all local, state and national inspections and standards for all Radiology sections.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Develops and manages department operational and capital budgets, approvals, and ongoing maintenance of the department(s), ensuring operation in a cost-effective manner. Proactively identifies and plans for capital needs related to current equipment and future department projects. Ensures staffing plans and schedules meet department needs that reflect understanding of the importance of cost-effectiveness.
  • Creates department strategies to achieve financial target and staffing needs, through optimizing productivity, supply/resource efficiency, minimizing incidental overtime and overtime percentage, and other areas according to department specifications.
  • Obtains and manages human, financial and physical resources within areas of responsibility. Utilizes monitoring and trending data to provide appropriate cost-effective patient care which is in concert with the philosophy.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Identifies and implements innovative solutions for practice or workflow changes to improve department, entity or system operations by leading unit projects and/or other department/ system-directed activities. Proactively leads task forces and committees. May represent HM at assigned community or professional organization meetings.
  • Drives change initiatives, maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment; adjusts effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements or cultures. Partners effectively with stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management. Completes and updates My Development Plan (MDP) on an on-going basis. Conducts conversations with staff on their development and MDP.

QUALIFICATIONS

Most importantly, you need to be a passionate Imaging & Diagnostic Services Director who enjoys his work and is considered to be one of the best within your organization. The ideal Imaging & Diagnostic Services Director would be someone with deep experience in many (if not all) of the following:

EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Master's degree preferred
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS - REQUIRED
  • CMRT - Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist - State Licensure OR
  • RDMS - Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) AND
  • BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA) AND
Must possess a minimum of ONE of the following credentials in any of the following imaging modalities:
  • Radiology - ARRT(R),
  • Nuclear - ARRT(NM) or CNMT,
  • CT - ARRT(CT),
  • MRI - ARRT(MR) or ARMRIT or CAMRT,
  • Mammography- ARRT(R) and ARRT(M),
  • Ultrasound- RVT; or ARRT(S) or ARRT(VS); or RVS or RCS

Position Summary

UI Health is seeking Radiologic Technologist's to join our Diagnostic Service department. There are multiple openings for both part-time and full time. Work schedules include Days, Evenings, Nights, Rotating Weekends. Employees in this position at this level operate and maintain radiographic equipment and supplies under the direction of a physician to perform procedures involving the acquisition and processing of diagnostic radiographic images. These images are interpreted by medical officers to locate injuries, foreign bodies, pathological conditions, or lesions within the body. A(n) Radiologic Technologist assists with the preparation of the patient(s) and a sterile procedure environment, as appropriate. They also monitor patient safety and comfort and navigate and maintain patient records. They work under direct supervision of higher-level personnel.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Obtains medical history pertinent to the exam being performed within the guidelines set forth by HIPPA.
  • Interprets physicians' orders; screens patient(s) prior to a procedure
  • Positions and transfers patient(s) on/off the radiographic table while utilizing proper body mechanics; provides immobilization devices or stabilizers to obtain optimum results, as necessary;
  • Assists with patient and procedure room preparation; positions and adjusts equipment according to the specifications of the procedure; performs equipment safety checks prior to testing;
  • Explains components of procedures to patient(s); observes and monitors patient(s) throughout procedure(s); advises the physician of any abnormal indicators;
  • Performs procedures on patient(s) to produce optimal diagnostic images, under supervision; maintains sterile field during procedures, as appropriate;
  • Determines the best method of obtaining optimal diagnostic images; selects and modifies technical factors and adjusts technique, as necessary; uses protective devices and techniques to minimize radiation exposure;

Job Duties : Our echo/stress department helps support imaging needs for inpatients (including peds), ER and outpatients. Responsibilities :

1. Demonstrates competence in delivering pre-procedure and post-procedure patient care including, but not limited to patient assessment pre- and post-procedure care and, emergency cardiac care (CPR is required). Additionally, assistance with post-procedure transport may be required.
2. Ensures equipment is calibrated and properly maintained on a daily basis. Performs and records all equipment maintenance and quality assurance monitoring. Troubleshoots and identifies any equipment problems and reports to appropriate supervisor or biomedical engineering.
3. Generates ultrasound images of the heart and/or vascular related structures. Performs advanced cardiac ultrasound studies in care of patients with complex conditions and regularly performs multiple study types with varied anatomical areas.
4. Performs vascular studies and real time readings/reports in the operating room for invasive and non-invasive vascular procedures.
5. Performs studies for inpatient neonatal/NICU and pediatric patients.
6. May perform staff training and education. Serves as a subject matter expert and resource to Cardiovascular Sonographers.
7. Monitors and records patient information and maintains report storage and data systems. Compiles and enters data necessary for charge entry and prepares reports. Also responsible for retrieval of stored information and reports from the automated storage system.
8. Prepares procedure room and equipment for daily use and is responsible for timely and efficient room preparation between procedures.
9. Independently responds to on-call needs for emergent procedures.

Summary:
Conducts procedures and tests using MRI equipment to acquire and analyze patient diagnostic data.
Responsibilities:
1. Patient Identification- Uses professional manners and methods, verifies patient identification, obtains patient history, assists patients and family members that require extra attention, insures patient understanding whenever possible, and insures patient safety. Verifies patient identification, asks and documents pregnancy status on patients of child bearing age.
2. MRI Technology- Demonstrates knowledge of MRI and cross-sectional human anatomy. Is competent in the operation of the MRI scanners, proficient in automatic injections of MRI contrast, disc drives, gateways, PACS and laser printers. Maintains active status with ARRT or ARMRIT by accruing CE's when needed. Interprets protocols and selects appropriate scanning parameters, shares knowledge with fellow MRI technologists and uses technical knowledge to assist in actively trouble shooting problems with respect to equipment and protocols
3. Contrast- Administers oral contrast to adult and pediatric patients according to protocols, establishes intravenous lines, administers IV contrast following safe and proper injection procedures, follows correct procedure to determine contrast eligibility, checks appropriate lab values before contrast injection per protocol.
4. Image Transfer- Maintains thorough understanding of PACS, and transmits images to QC, UNCH's EMR, EPIC and PACS, verifies and segments images at the QC station, accesses IMPAX service tools to verify images transmission, completes, modifies and/or cancels orders in an appropriate and timely manner, cancels duplicate orders to avoid duplicate billing. Insures that all charge information is accurate. Verifies patient identification in accordance with UNC policy, insures that all appropriate demographic information is accurate and on the PACS images.
5. Other Duties- Performs task in a timely manner, runs the schedule creating a consistent workflow, volunteers to work on challenging tasks, difficult procedures and new research, produces quality diagnostic images, reviews patient's chart and reports for correlation, maintains a clean and orderly work environment, creates and keeps documentation of incidents as improvement opportunities for employees and the department. Job Duties: Our echo/stress department helps support imaging needs for inpatients (including peds), ER and outpatients. **Responsibilities** :
1. Demonstrates competence in delivering pre-procedure and post-procedure patient care including, but not limited to patient assessment pre- and post-procedure care and, emergency cardiac care (CPR is required). Additionally, assistance with post-procedure transport may be required.
2. Ensures equipment is calibrated and properly maintained on a daily basis. Performs and records all equipment maintenance and quality assurance monitoring. Troubleshoots and identifies any equipment problems and reports to appropriate supervisor or biomedical engineering.
3. Generates ultrasound images of the heart and/or vascular related structures. Performs advanced cardiac ultrasound studies in care of patients with complex conditions and regularly performs multiple study types with varied anatomical areas.
4. Performs vascular studies and real time readings/reports in the operating room for invasive and non-invasive vascular procedures.
5. Performs studies for inpatient neonatal/NICU and pediatric patients.
6. May perform staff training and education. Serves as a subject matter expert and resource to Cardiovascular Sonographers.
7. Monitors and records patient information and maintains report storage and data systems. Compiles and enters data necessary for charge entry and prepares reports. Also responsible for retrieval of stored information and reports from the automated storage system.
8. Prepares procedure room and equipment for daily use and is responsible for timely and efficient room preparation between procedures.
9. Independently responds to on-call needs for emergent procedures.
**Other Information**
**Education Requirements:**
● Associate's degree in Sonography, Radiology or a related field within 3 months of hire, OR Completion of a twelve (12) month ultrasound program within 3 months of hire.
**Licensure/Certification Requirements:**
● Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), or registry eligible and become registered within one (1) year from date of hire. Must maintain registry status and continuing education requirements annually.
**Professional Experience Requirements:**
● One year minimum experience in acute hospital setting.
