Thorough knowledge which allows employee to wash, scrape, polish, grind and sand contoured metal surfaces to finish forging dies, trimmers and other tooling by performing the following duties, with minimal supervision.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Possesses thorough knowledge of die polishing and grinding techniques.
• Performs liquid penetrant inspection of dies to determine wear, cracks and other defects. Documents die condition.
• Identifies defects and die wear; identifies dies with job number and function.
• Selects abrasive tools according to operation and dimensions specified.
• Manipulates powered hand grinder to remove bead, grind curved surfaces to specified radii, remove machining marks, and smooth die surfaces; sand surfaces of cavity and gutters to facilitate flow of metal during forging; manipulates hand tools, such as files, stones, and emery cloth, to smooth surfaces.
• Operates pressure wash die cleaning tank.
• Supports other Tooling related duties as required.

Establish and maintain the die maintenance documented control system including managing outsourcing of die maker/repair, in-house repairing die & PM, spare parts, and safety.

Stamping Responsibilities

- Check the daily production plans and help the Manager.

- Report problems to the Manager as soon as possible, including any quality issues, and machines in need of repair.

- Gather data from the daily production # and report it to the Manager, include how many parts produced, how many parts scraped, and how long spent running each part #.

- Update the job instruction sheets if necessary.

- Obtain knowledge to operate all equipment in department.

- Track daily production date on posted sheets.

- Check the first and last part for quality – daily.

- Cooperate with management to increase productivity

- Responsible for department’s safety control, 4S and Production Control

Die maintenance Responsibilities

- Make a monthly schedule for die preventive maintenance and ensure the plan is followed including manpower plan.

Work from blueprints, sketches or computer-aided design (CAD), and computer-aided manufacturing (GibbsCAM) files. Set up, operate, and disassemble manual, automatic, and computer-numeric controlled (CNC) machine tools, and computer-aided machine. Align, secure, and adjust cutting tools and work pieces. Monitor the feed and speed of machines. Turn, mill, drill, shape, and grind machine parts to specifications. Use both manual and computer-controlled machinery. Measure, examine, and test completed products for defects. Smooth the surfaces of parts or products. Present finished work pieces to customers and make modifications if needed. Operate crane and forklift. Any other duties as deemed necessary or appropriate.

Education and Experience

High school diploma/GED required with technical schooling preferred. At least 2 year machinist job-related experience. Experience using lathes, milling machines, and grinders, ideally within a metal stamping facility. Can demonstrate 3D CAD (Catia preferred), GibbsCam programming experience preferred.

Ability to work under pressure to meet tight timelines. Clear understanding of Lean Principals & Tools.

The Die Maintenance Helper/Saw Helper assists in operating overhead cranes and tooling set-ups. The Helper will learn essential skills to support our forging operations and assist in equipment maintenance for the press. As a result, the Helper will gain basic understanding of die heating furnaces, wheel setups, and the use of an overhead crane.

Core responsibilities include:

• Follow direction of the acting supervisor, lead man, and/or supervisor
