The Digital & Marketing Specialist at the Virginia Zoo contributes to the success of marketing campaigns and visual collateral needs. D&M Specialists partner and support various Zoo departments to effectively communicate the mission of the Virginia Zoo to its audience.

This is a full time, non-exempt position. This position reports to the Director of Communications.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Public Relations

  • Write press releases as instructed by the Director of Communication.
  • Outreach to media outlets, organizations, associations, and interest groups to obtain media highlights for Virginia Zoo.
  • Assist in identifying community partners for photo shoots, editorials, and promotional work.
  • Scan monthly zoo and aquarium publications for Virginia Zoo mentions for Marketing updates.

Website/Online

As part of the Continuous Improvement team, the Digital Improvement Specialist identifies and evaluates business opportunities to apply Microsoft Power Platform solutions that enhance efficiency and performance across both new and existing processes. Collaborating with a wide variety of cross-functional leaders and subject matters experts to envision, initiate, plan and deliver on that potential value and communicate its impact to the organization.
The role of the Digital Improvement Specialist has ownership for the overall design, delivery and sustainability of low-code/no-code Power Platform solutions. The Digital Specialist is a thought leader with a growth mindset and natural ability to elevate the performance of their coworkers by challenging the status quo of how we work, how we think as an organization and the tools & processes required to provide value to our customers.
Your Tasks Design, develop, and implement custom solutions using Microsoft Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, and other Power Platform technologies.
Maintenance and optimization of the Power Platform environments and solutions to assure optimal utilization of resources and sustainable performance of the portal.
Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand internal/external requirements.
Plan and facilitate solution envisioning workshops to conceptualize a project path.
Translate natural language business requirements into technical process documentation and framework diagrams.
Ensure the performance, security, and scalability of the Power Platform solutions.
Experience in transforming/manipulating data.
Provide regular training and SME support to end-users on the Power Platform solutions.
Stay up to date with the latest Power Platform advancements and technologies.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
Perform implementation/migration/administration development and support during client implementation and ramp up.
Perform assessments and conduct discovery sessions to develop/design SoW's, estimates, and proposals for potential new business.
Drive organizational change and culture change related to the digitization and digitalization of how we work at Arvato.
Demonstrate effective use of time management to achieve billable utilization goals.
Assist solution design team members in presenting recommended solutions to technical and non-technical audiences in a way that is understandable and engaging.
Create and maintain technical documentation for internal use and external presentations (e.g., as-built documentation, solution architecture, etc.) .
Handle escalated support and administration needs for all service delivery teams.
Provide ongoing mentoring, guidance, and knowledge transfer for junior team members. Any additional tasks that may be assigned to ensure an efficient, safe, clean, and goal-oriented work environment

Your Profile To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university with focus in Computer Science, Programming or Data Architecture
3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Equivalent education or certifications must be verifiable and with credentials provided by an accredited institution. Microsoft Learn Program certifications via Credly are ideal.

As the Marketing Specialist, you will play a central role in content-driven marketing initiatives that support lead generation, brand visibility, and agent recruitment across B2C audiences. Reporting to and working closely with the Senior Digital Marketing & Events Manager, your day-to-day will revolve around developing engaging content, coordinating multimedia projects, managing social platforms, and assisting with storytelling across channels-including social media, email, podcasts, webinars, and print.

This role is ideal for a strong communicator with a passion for creative storytelling, digital content production, and brand voice consistency. You'll support campaign execution and collaborate across departments to turn ideas into cohesive, on-brand marketing assets. From storyboarding video and podcast segments to writing compelling email copy and coordinating event materials, you'll help fuel marketing efforts that connect meaningfully with our audience.

Key Responsibilities

Content Creation & Storytelling

  • Draft original copy for emails, social media, website landing pages, and digital ads that align with brand tone and marketing goals
  • Assist with podcast and video content development, including brainstorming segments, scripting, and basic storyboarding
  • Organize and support creative projects such as testimonial videos, explainer content, or social series
  • Repurpose long-form content (e.g. webinars or interviews) into digestible clips, quotes, or visual posts
Social Media Management
  • Maintain and execute a monthly content calendar across platforms including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube
  • Create branded visuals using Canva or Adobe templates for use in digital and print formats
  • Monitor engagement and performance metrics; suggest optimizations and track growth benchmarks
  • Stay on top of trends and brainstorm creative content ideas for brand awareness and audience engagement
Digital Marketing & Email Campaigns
  • Support execution of cold and warm email campaigns through Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Success.ai, or AgencyBloc
  • Assist with segmentation, scheduling, and reporting of email and newsletter campaigns
  • Coordinate monthly newsletters by gathering content, formatting, and managing distribution lists
  • Track and help analyze CPA/CPL campaigns and related content performance metrics
Marketing Operations & Internal Requests
  • Manage the intake and prioritization of internal marketing requests
  • Maintain an organized marketing task tracker to ensure timely project delivery
  • Edit, resize, and reformat existing marketing materials for partner use or print distribution
  • Collaborate with compliance teams and partners to gather and approve co-branded content
Event & Webinar Content Logistics
  • Support content promotion and creative asset creation for live and virtual events (e.g. webinars, agent mixers)
  • Assist in developing messaging and registration pages via platforms like Eventbrite
  • Manage pre- and post-event communications and coordinate follow-up content or thank-you materials
  • Collect engagement metrics and support post-event content wrap-up or repurposing
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field
  • 5-6 years of experience in content-focused marketing roles (bonus for healthcare, insurance, or B2C/B2B hybrid industries)
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with an eye for brand voice and clarity
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Familiarity with tools such as Canva, Salesforce/Marketing Cloud, WordPress, Eventbrite, Zoom, and Google Analytics
Preferred Skills
  • Understanding of regulated industries such as Medicare, financial services, or healthcare
  • Experience creating podcast or video content
  • Knowledge of cold email platforms and email automation best practices
  • Ability to translate complex topics into simple, compelling messaging
