Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Plans, administers and directs all location activities related to food service including financial accountability, compliance with standards established by the CommonSpirit Health and regulatory agencies. Leads food and nutrition services departments. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other departments to provide a unified food and nutrition (dietary) service experience for patients, residents, visitors and employees. Position Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for overseeing management of all food and nutrition (dietary) services.
  2. Plans, directs, coordinates and controls resources of the Food and Nutrition Services Department to provide food service for customers, employees and patients.
  3. Prepares the budget and assists in the development of short -term and long-term financial and operational plans for the department.
  4. Supports the transition of new region facilities, as applicable.
  5. Establishes and maintains regulatory compliance with food and nutrition services and policies and procedures to address safe practices for food handling, emergency food supplies, menu planning, purchasing and storage of food and supplies.
  6. Manages department human resources to ensure effective employee orientation, training and development, supervision of work, employee performance, wage/benefit administration and compliance with established labor regulations and hospital or CommonSpirit Health human resources policies and procedures.
  7. Monitors the performance of the department through assessment and analysis of customer/patient satisfaction systems, quality and nutritional assessments, inspections, and financial reports.
  8. Completes QAPI assessment reports and corrective actions in collaboration with the hospital QAPI department.
  9. Promptly addresses customer complaints, and conducts service recovery where possible.
  10. Conducts rounding with patients and staff. Maintains log of patient and staff feedback which is considered in continuous improvement.
  11. Participates in hospital committees as indicated by the department policies and standard operating procedures, or delegates to appropriate managers as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Minimum two (2) years hospital nutrition management experience or three (3) years of high-volume food service management experience, or a combination of both totaling three (3) years of management experience.
  2. Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or related field or three (3) years of equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of Bachelors degree.
  3. Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) or Registered Dietitian. If not currently certified, certification (CDM) to be obtained within 24 months of hire; unless otherwise required by State or local health code.
  4. Current certification as a ServSafe Food Protection Manager and ServSafe Allergen Certifications. Certification must be obtained within 60 days of hire; unless otherwise required by state or local health code.

Job Description:
The Director of Food Services supports and leads all aspects of clinical nutrition, regulatory and operational aspects of the clinical nutrition services, patient food services areas and cafeteria. This position implements and recommends changes to improve and promote effectiveness, productivity and quality for areas of responsibility. The Director will supervise, evaluate, select, and train team members.
Duties/Responsibilities
+ Responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Dietary and Clinical Nutrition Departments
+ Collaborate with organizational leadership to develop enterprise strategies for inpatient food services, retail and vending.
+ Oversee coordination and integration of the therapeutic and administrative aspects of dietetic services to be maintained and to ensure the quality, safety, and appropriateness of the dietetic department/service functions are monitored and evaluated and that appropriate actions are taken to solve problems or concerns
+ Ensure administrative policies and procedures are developed and implemented concerning procurement, production, and service
+ Oversee regulatory compliance with standards from accrediting bodies (e.g., TJC, CMS, State of Texas and OSHA), ensuring all food service operations meet or exceed requirements.
+ Ensure nutritional care policies and procedures are developed by a registered dietitian and are approved by those departments directly involved
+ Participates interdepartmentally in quality assurance activities to continuously improve the overall quality of patient care. Ensure the Performance Improvement Plan is developed and implemented and that quarterly reports are prepared as they relate to the monitors and that actions are taken on any deficiencies
+ Ensure that all menus are planned appropriately and that patient menus are evaluated for nutritional adequacy
+ Oversee all foodservice centers in the kitchen including cafeteria, patient, and formulas Prepare and manage department budget
+ Responsible for foodservice equipment purchases
+ Build strong partnerships with internal and external executive leaders to achieve objectives.
+ Lead and mentor a diverse team, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment to achieve departmental and organizational goals.

Required Skills/Abilities

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

As an Assistant Director of Food Services (sous chef), you will contribute to a positive dining experience for residents by assisting with meal service, food preparation, and maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment. Your role ensures that residents receive high-quality meals in a welcoming setting while upholding food safety and sanitation standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Food Service Director with the management of daily food service operations.
  • Ensure that all food service regulations, standards, and guidelines are followed.
  • Assist in daily meal service preparation, being able to perform all roles and tasks within the food service department.
  • Take a hands-on leadership approach to meal service by working any assignment in the kitchen as needed to assist with staffing and meal production.
  • Assist the Food Service Director with scheduling, recruitment, and labor management as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED/HSE preferred
  • Previous experience in dining leadership preferred
  • Previous experience as a line cook, prep cook or sous chef preferred

Position Overview
