**Summary:**
Catalent Pharma Solutions is seeking a dynamic leader to join us as Director, Product Development. The Director, Product Development (PD) is responsible for providing operational, scientific and technical leadership for all product development activities, which includes customer-focused programs and programs based with other Catalent operations. This also includes strategically planning future site capabilities and on-boarding of new development and manufacturing technologies. As a leader, the Director, Product Development will enhance and grow the technical and intellectual capabilities of the site while leading a client-centric team capable of solving diverse problem statements for small molecule and peptide therapeutics. The Director will lead the PD team and work in tandem with Project Management, Analytical Development, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to assure delivery according to agreements with the clients. You will also offer support to sales (BD) and marketing and emphasize the leadership of development programs with a clear awareness of the site's Quality & Safety culture.
The candidate should have extensive industry and management experience, as well as in-depth knowledge of formulation of preclinical and Phase I/II oral and/or parenteral formulations and supporting analytical techniques (such as HPLC and physical characterization). Understanding and application of bioavailability enhancing formulation technologies required. Experience with bioavailability enhancing techniques for oral small molecules is important. Current understanding of cGMP regulations is a must. The candidate must be a self-starter, have excellent written and oral communication skills, problem solving and organizational skills. All duties will be performed in compliance with company standard operating procedures (SOPs) and GMP regulations, as appropriate.
**The Role:**
+ Development and management of 4-8 reports including annual reviews and performance management of all direct reports. Direct reports may also supervise full-time employees. Total group under supervision may include >20 employees.
+ Manage department salary budget, hiring/staffing, and training budget.
+ Final review of work proposals, timelines, reports and system/procedural changes. Lead strategic and tactical scientific discussions with clients and scientific staff.
+ Proactively suggest solutions that help both our internal teams and our clients meet their objectives.
+ Provide direction for the development of drug CMC efforts including toxicology and human studies.
+ Communicate with clients with respect to specific scope and direction of projects, as well as costs and timing of contracted work.
+ Act as escalation point for client concerns, participate actively in maintaining client loyalty through independent leader-to-leader meetings, business review meetings, and other forums.
+ Provide progress updates to accounts receivable for client billing.
+ Represent Catalent by involvement with scientific community through conferences and speaking opportunities. Manage the transfer of projects from development to manufacturing and transfer of projects to external vendors and other Catalent sites.
+ Review and contribute to proposals/contracts for scientific projects, suggest pricing strategy.
+ Communicate with Business Development on department status and provide feedback on proposals. Participate in or lead cross-functional teams and projects, such as Quality/Compliance, Continuous Improvement, Safety, and Operations.
+ Recommend department goals and objectives.Participate in site leadership team activities.
+ Lead a team that works well with other departments and can be an extension of our external partners.
**The Candidate:**
+ PhD in Pharmaceutical related sciences and minimum 11 to 13 years relevant industry experience
+ B.S. in Pharmaceutical related sciences and minimum of 15 years of relevant industry experience or M.S. with minimum 13 years of relevant experience
+ Should have broad industry and management experience, with in-depth knowledge of CMC related activities. These may include but are not limited to preformulation, analytical method development (such as HPLC), development of preclinical and clinical oral and parenteral formulations, and phase appropriate quality control activities.
+ Understanding of cGMP regulations.
The anticipated starting salary range for this role in San Diego, CA is $185,000 to $215,000 annually. The Associate Director of Product Development is a critical role in Aerogen Pharma that will be responsible for key aspects of pharmaceutical development of AeroFact (biologic surfactant) or Synthsurf (Synthetic surfactant). The role will focus on phase appropriate product development of surfactant lyophilized formulations, manufacturing process optimization and scale up, and product characterization supporting pre-clinical and clinical studies. What are the key responsibilities? Leadership & Strategy : Oversee product development for biologics, proteins, and peptides, managing projects with CDMOs. Develop and execute strategies aligned with Aerogen Pharma's mission and regulatory standards. Product Development : Research, design and execute controlled experiments, with high attention to detail to development of stable and effective drug product, fit for commercialization. Conduct QbD experiments to identify CQAs that impact product performance and stability. Conduct registration enabling stability studies and product characterization studies per appropriate ICH guidances. Experience working on lipid based and / or protein based biologics is required. Experience with lyophilization process development and optimization is a plus. CDMO/CMO Collaboration: Serve as the primary liaison with external manufacturing / analytical partners. Ensure effective communication and coordination to meet project timelines and quality expectations. Regulatory Compliance : Prepare and review documentation for regulatory submissions (INDs, BLAs, NDAs). Ensure adherence to cGMP and regulatory requirements. Experience authoring late-stage regulatory dossiers, particularly BLAs is required. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, Manufacturing, Regulatory, and Quality Assurance teams to integrate product development within overall project goals. Troubleshooting & Problem Solving: Address and resolve formulation, process optimization, analytical issues during development and manufacturing. Implement corrective and preventive actions as needed. What education and experience are required? Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical sciences, Chemical engineering, Biochemical engineering or related field. 8-10 years in lipid formulations, liposomes or related drug delivery technologies. 2-5 years of manufacturing process development (lyophilization) is a plus. Extensive experience working with CDMOs is required. Late stage product development experience is required. Experience authoring CMC dossiers for FDA, EMA and other regulatory agencies is a must. Knowledge and experience in drug-device development, inhalation drug delivery is a plus. Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, ICH, FDA, Health Canada and MHRA Regulations is required Excellent written and oral communication skills. What key skills will make you great at the role? POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Chief Growth Officer, the Director, Product Development is accountable for working with executives to create and execute Zing’s product strategy. Additionally, this individual will work cross-functionally to ensure our marketing, sales, clinical, and operations areas are executing consistently with our go-to-market strategy. This individual will also direct a growing team of employees responsible for overseeing supplemental benefit vendors and creating and filing plan benefit-related materials.

Key Role and Responsibilities:

  • The Director of Medicare Product will drive the design and development of Medicare Advantage products to support growth and retention, based on trends, innovations, and unique Zing value propositions.
  • Oversee the annual CMS bid process and disseminates product information and business needs to stakeholders across the organization in support of annual go-to-market initiatives.
  • Drives secondary research and qualitative and quantitative analysis to inform product design and development with supplemental benefit innovation.
  • Collaborate closely with sales, marketing, and actuary to lead the bid process in accordance with all regulatory timelines.
  • Creates and identifies critical differentiators of Zing’s product strategy and works with sales and marketing to ensure marketing materials and broker education materials emphasize these differentiators.
  • Crafts and refines Executive-level presentations.
  • Leads and oversees the Zing materials team ensuring readiness for AEP as well as quality and efficiency of execution.
  • Oversees our supplemental benefit vendors, focusing on driving high-quality outcomes and an integrated member experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Three years of MA product development.
  • 7+ years of MAPD experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Highly independent and self-starter.
  • Ability to navigate with internal and external parties to achieve larger goals.
  • Ability to process data and produce cohesive strategy.
  • Comfortable presenting to large groups of individuals and to senior management.
