Responsibilities
In your role as a Displays Software Engineer, your primary focus will be designing, architecting, and building a variety of real-time user interface applications for controlling our automated aircraft systems. These can range from browser-based applications to real-time embedded UIs on aviation-grade hardware. All of these applications will support our work to build a fully certified system in multiple ways: they will serve as a platform for rapidly prototyping different workflows and designs; they will be directly used in our ongoing experimental test flight programs; and they will ultimately serve as a reference implementation for our certified displays and controls. You will have ownership over the entire lifecycle of these applications and will work with software engineers and designers within the team, as well as systems engineers and pilots to build systems that are safe, user-centered, and certifiable.

The estimated salary range for this position is $110,000 to $160,000/annual salary + cash and stock option awards + benefits. At Reliable Robotics, we strive to provide competitive and rewarding compensation based on experience and expertise, as well as market conditions, location, and pay equity.

This position will work directly with the Sr. Video and Broadcast Technology Manager to coordinate and program content to be displayed on major events and daily office hours. The Estimator plays a foundational role in transforming conceptual designs into feasible, high-impact realities. This role is pivotal in aligning creative vision with production viability, ensuring that every project we undertake is both inspiring and executable. Responsibilities Estimating & Budgeting
- Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for custom exhibits, environments, and interactive installations.
- Evaluate and quantify labor, materials, subcontractor services, equipment, and logistics for each project.
- Analyze design documentation including renderings, technical drawings, and written briefs to scope complexity and requirements.
- Propose value-engineered alternatives that balance creative integrity with budget realities.
- Maintain up-to-date cost libraries, labor rates, and vendor data to support reliable forecasting.
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with designers, engineers, project managers, and fabrication leads to fully understand project scope and requirements.
- Communicate estimate details clearly across departments, ensuring seamless handoffs from sales through production.
- Support proposal writing and participate in client-facing efforts including bids, clarifications, and scope revisions.
- Attend internal kickoff meetings and actively contribute to production planning based on estimates.
Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination
- Solicit and manage quotes from vendors, subcontractors, and consultants.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers and partners.
Process Management
- Improve and evolve internal estimation processes and documentation.
- Track actual project costs against estimates to inform future project pricing strategies.
Qualifications Required
- 3+ years of estimating experience in exhibits, events, architecture, fabrication, or a related industry.
- In-depth knowledge of construction materials, custom fabrication techniques, AV integration, and installation workflows.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting CAD drawings, blueprints, and renderings.
- Strong analytical skills with precision and accuracy in budgeting.
- Effective communication and time management skills, particularly across multiple concurrent projects.
- Comfort with Microsoft Excel and estimating tools; familiarity with Smartsheet or equivalent platforms.
- Background in design, engineering, or construction management.
- Experience with 3D modeling or estimating software tools.
- Awareness of sustainable materials and environmentally conscious estimating practices.

ABOUT THE JOB
We are seeking a Firmware engineer to deliver kernel drivers for VR displays across novel interconnects. At the bleeding edge of display hardware and software, the role requires a deep understanding of i/o protocols, compression, and firmware to overcome bandwidth and latency bottlenecks. We operate on fast timelines and expect engineers to ship production code every day.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
DAY 1:
- Design, build, and deliver a modular display runtime that supports 4x5k micro OLED, 2x4k fast LED, and future VR displays with varying refresh rates atop Qualcomm xr2 SoCs
- Design, build, and deliver firmware (along with necessary kernel drivers) to support geometric, photometric, and optics calibration for displays / pancake lens
- Compose ICDs / APIs for third parties to integrate their own VR displays
- Interface with kernel, calibration, and display engineers at Reality Labs, Qualcomm, and other industry partners to debug and correct hardware interfaces
- Utilize infrastructure providing deterministic builds and configuration management, guaranteeing software traceability and minimizing maintenance burden
- History of pathfinding products 0→1
- Experience building display drivers via MIPI DSI, eDP, DP alt mode
- Experience synchronizing multiple displays with microsecond precision
- Debugging skills with JTAG, SWD, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, interposer boards
- Interest in learning adjacent skills to expedite integration of novel feature sets (e.g., multi display and multi SoC synchronization)
- C, C++, and/or Rust
- Experience synchronizing multiple SoCs and their displays
- Experience supporting variable refresh rates
- Experience exploiting compression protocols to support higher resolution displays and reduce power consumption
- Familiarity with other common bus protocols - SPI, I2C, CAN, RS232, RS485, Ethernet, etc
- Experience measuring, optimizing MTF
- Familiarity with Android, EEPROM, and UEFI file systems
$168,000-$252,000 USD
The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations.
