A Day in the Life of a Dog Sitter

Dog Sitters visit dogs in client’s homes for drop in visits (30, 45, or 60 minutes, once or twice daily or for 10 hour overnight stays) OR dog walks (30, 60, or 90 minute private walks or 60 minute group walks). Before your first sitting visit, you’ll meet each client and their dog in person for a meet and greet in their home, winning them over with your warm smile, demeanor and professional approach. You’ll go over the whole care routine, finding out where things are in the home, and discuss contingency plans for emergencies. At the sittings, you’ll precisely follow the directions the client has given for the dog and home care, socialize with the dog, leave the home spotless, and delight the client by sending a daily visit update to them through our pet sitting phone app.

Meet & Greet: Meet your canine clients (and their humans) at home to learn about their needs and routines.

Dog Care Done Right: Follow detailed instructions to a tee – feeding, refreshing water, cleaning bowls, scooping litter, and administering medications if needed.

Happy Hours: Spend quality time with each dog, offering love, cuddles, or playtime based on their unique personality.

Walking: For dog walking services, walk dogs in a group and privately, either in the neighborhood or location that you work out with the client.

Light Housekeeping: Complete small tasks like watering plants, collecting mail, and taking out trash.

Daily Updates: Keep owners in the loop with charming updates and photos that showcase their furry friend’s antics. We have a market-leading app to help you stay connected.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Traits:

• At least 18 years old
• Experience caring for dogs (professional experience is a plus but NOT required)
• The ability to walk, run, pull, push, bend or reach for extended periods of time
• Capable of handling all sizes of canines from small to large
• A smartphone with internet access, texting, and camera capabilities
• Ability to pass a criminal background check and provide references
• Compassion, patience, and reliability
• Organized, systematic, and able to keep track of client schedules and keys
• Able to handle unexpected and emergency situations
• Able to perform work that can be very physically and mentally demanding at times

Desirable Extras:

• Certification in pet first aid/CPR or experience administering oral meds, injections or fluids

DETAILS:

• 20-30 hours per week
• Shifts are 9/2pm, 10-3pm or 11-4pm EVERY DAY Monday-Friday and one weekend per month 
• Areas: Monroe County
• You will drive from house to house according to company schedule providing dog walks, puppy care, cat care, and pet sits for the pets in each household

• Must have reliable transportation, a valid drivers license, and insurance

• You need to have excellent time management skills. We do anywhere from 4-10 walks per day. Usually the visits are back-to-back and must be completed within a certain time frame.
• You must be able to work independently and be resourceful. We provide initial training and ongoing training, but much of the dog walking and pet sitting work is independent and on your own.
• You need to have strong communication skills, both written and verbal. We communicate with clients mostly through notes through our system. Our clients love receiving our updates each day, so you must be able to communicate clearly with clients and staff.
• You should have strong animal intuition skills. We provide ongoing animal training, but you must bring a confidence with animals to each visit.
• You must be an animal-lover and have endless amounts of patience when it comes to animals.

Applicant must meet the following qualifications:

• Availability between 9:00am-4:00pm Monday-Friday and one weekend a quarter (four times a year)
• Able to make a long-term commitment
• Must have a smart phone and computer and internet access
• Must have access to a reliable, insured vehicle
• Live in or near our service area
• Flexible schedule
• Able to walk in all weather
• Able to pass a criminal background check
• Clean driving record

One final but IMPORTANT note: 

This is a physical job.  It requires the ability to walk multiple miles a day and to work with energetic dogs in all weather.

If you enjoy being outside, getting exercise, and spending time with animals, this job is for you! This is a part time position. The dog walker would begin with a couple walks per day with room to grow based on performance and experience. Responsibilities:

• Dog walking: Visit our client’s homes midday (11AM to 3:00PM) to walk or play with their dog for their requested amount of time.

Requirements | Employees must:

ATTENTION ANIMAL LOVERS LIVING WITHIN 15 MILES OF WEST HOLLYWOOD! Get paid to hang out with dogs and exercise all day! Earn up to $4000+ per month depending on availability. **The ability to board dogs in your home is required to make $000+.

Hot Dog On a Run is a successful, well respected dog walking and pet sitting company located in West Hollywood. We provide services to these areas: West Hollywood, Hollywood, Hollywood Hills, Hancock Park, Los Feliz, Beverly Hills, Westwood, Studio City and Sherman Oaks. We are hiring full-time, responsible, reliable individuals who have experience with and LOVE dogs!

**Please note: this is NOT a side job to make extra money nor an independent contractor gig. We are looking for walkers who can commit to working a minimum of 40 hrs/ week. Each dog walker starts training at an hourly rate of 17 + 63 cents per mile from beginning to end of shift, so there is no unpaid downtime in between walks like Wag. Most of our walkers work 8+ hrs/ day as well as boarding on top of their regular walk schedule. Once training is over and you're officially hired, a raise will be issued pending your performance and experience.

Requirements:

Be an animal lover!

Be authorized to work in the United States.

MUST HAVE A VALID DRIVERS LICENSE, YOUR OWN FULLY INSURED CAR AND BE WILLING TO TRANSPORT DOGS IN IT DAILY (we pay mileage from your first house pick up to last house drop off!)

Be physically able to walk several hours each day in all types of weather and capable of handling large breed dogs

Available to work most holidays

Must be available to work consistent days/times, including a minimum of working one weekend day.
