Title: Learning Specialist-Office of Learning Enhancement

Reports To: Director of Learning Enhancement

Status: Exempt

Position Summary :

This position plays an important role in providing students with academic support and coaching they need in order to be successful in medical school. Learning Specialists work with students in all four years of the medical school curriculum. The Learning Specialist develops, executes, and monitors academic success programs and initiatives for KansasCOM medical students through individualized or group instruction. This includes, but is not limited to study skill evaluation, counseling, development of a comprehensive student learning assistance program, and providing ongoing assessment of educational support services for continuous academic improvement.

Primary Responsibilities :
  • Provides educational counseling to individuals and small groups of students in the development of critical-thinking skills, study skills, time management, note taking, and test taking skills in order to promote positive academic results. Documents course of action and follow up. Tracks student performance and evaluates whether interventions are needed in order to improve individual and/or groups of students.
  • Works closely with members of the medical education team to help support curricular innovation.
  • Develop workshops for students on study habits, learning styles and other relevant topics. Conduct workshops and individual sessions for students in preparation for COMLEX and USMLE licensing exams.
  • Maintain and provide oversight of a tutoring program for student in years one and two of the curriculum; evaluate existing program; implement and evaluate new initiatives to support student learning through testing.
  • Help design and implement academic support plans for students who are deficient in knowledge or skills.
  • Continue to review student promotion and retention data among other learning outcomes and revise learning assistance program and strategies to achieve optimal outcome.
  • Develop and maintain policy and procedure manual for KansasCOM academic counseling activities. Ensure that all policies and procedures are consistent with FERPA and Title IX requirements.
Position Requirements :
  • Demonstrated success in providing academic counseling in the following areas: study skills, learning challenges, test taking strategies, time management, board exam planning, study groups, note taking strategies, and active learning strategies.
  • Must be able to communicate well in both individual and group settings.
  • Must possess a professional personality that is welcoming, and customer focused.
  • Experience in higher education academic counseling preferred.
Education and Background :
  • Master's Degree in education with a preference for candidate with specific academic counseling experience. 2-3 years of previous experience in higher education and/or working with medical students.
Physical Requirements:
  • Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and other office equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overhead.
  • Ability to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting.
  • Ability to continuously operate a personal computer for extended periods of time (4 or more hours).
  • Mental acuity sufficient to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions.


Compensation & Benefits

This opportunity is budgeted at $45,000 to $55,000 base compensation.

Job Summary:

As part of a holistic strategic effort to support at-risk student athletes, this position provides individualized student support programming efforts that centers around learning strategies and academic skills. The Learning Specialist functions to ensure assigned students understand assignments in their courses, help them to develop an organizational system that will facilitate success in their courses, assists students in areas where there are some cognitive deficiencies, and helps coordinate with assigned academic counselors, tutors, and other Student Athlete Academic Support Team members to guarantee at-risk student athletes receive proper academic assistance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary learning specialist for a specific group of student-athletes.
  • Provide academic support for academically at-risk student-athletes on an individualized basis with an emphasis on academic skill development.
  • Ensure assigned students understand assignments in their courses, help them to develop an organizational system that will facilitate success in their courses, assist students in areas where there are cognitive deficiencies, and help coordinate with assigned assistant learning specialists, mentors and tutors to make sure they are receiving proper academic assistance.
  • Implements and develops certain initiatives that promote equitable learning environments for all student-athletes
  • Manages a high-impact educational assistant program. Follows best practices and current research regarding strategies around student success, learning resources, and student support.
  • After each appointment, the Lead Learning Specialist will log a report in JSU Navigate detailing what took place during each session to ensure compliance with JSU, CUSA, and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Provide quality and report any potential and actual JSU, CUSA, and/or NCAA infractions to the Vice Provost for Student Success and Senior Executive for the Student Athlete Experience
  • Ensure compliance with the NCAA, CUSA, and institutional rules and regulations regarding academic advising and support.
  • Administer the Nelson Denny and other screening assessments to identified underprepared and/or at risk student athletes.
  • If necessary, coordinate psychoeducational assessments for student athletes with identified needs with Vice Provost for Student Success and Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Student Services
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Education, Psychometry, Psychology, Sports Psychology, English, Math, Linguistics, or related field

Overview

Touro University Nevada (TUN) seeks a personable, adaptable, and goal-driven professional for the Learning Specialist position within the Office of Academic Services and Institutional Support (OASIS). This is a full-time, permanent position reporting to the Director of OASIS. In addition to OASIS specific responsibilities, the Learning Specialist will work collaboratively with the other departments housed in the Division of Student Affairs, as well as with university faculty and the academic programs. The Learning Specialist provides services directly to students that maximize the success, retention, and graduation of College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) and College of Health & Human Services (CHHS) students. These services include developing learning strategies and solutions for adult learners in graduate professional programs. The Learning Specialist works directly with students who are challenged by their coursework, testing, and board exams and provides remedial assistance to understand and overcome their deficits. Students self-refer and are referred by faculty. In addition to one-on-one advising, the Learning Specialist delivers workshops and provides workshops on learning strategies, study skills, test-taking skills, time management and other topics related to academic outcomes. Learning Specialists also refer students to Touro's peer tutoring, study hall sessions, writing assistance, and accommodation services which are supervised and managed by OASIS. Responsibilities

  1. Meets with students individually to assess their needs so that students may be more successful in their academic journeys. Student needs may include, but are not limited to the following:
    1. Strategies to improve study skills, study efficiency, test taking skills, time management skills.

International SOS is looking for qualified individuals to be the Learning Management Systems Specialist for The Navy Fleet and Family Support Program (FFSP.) The FFSP serves active duty members of the Navy, Marine Corps, Army, and Air Force plus their eligible family members; active duty members of foreign military services who are stationed in the area; reserve military personnel and their family members when they are eligible for military medical care, military members designated as severely wounded, ill and injured and their identified caretakers and, on a space available basis, military retirees and their family members and widows, eligible family members of military decedents and other groups as directed and authorized by higher authorities in response to special circumstances.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform database queries, compile and analyze data, identify trends and furnish statistical analyses and reports pertaining to FFSC service delivery and scheduling.
  • Compile installation inputs to recurring reports required by CNIC Headquarters or Regional Program Managers.
  • Establish procedures to ensure the accurate and efficient collection and entry of data into FFSMIS, as well as other potential data bases used to gather regional or installation data.
  • Input and monitor data collection and reporting functions in support of the FFSP support operations and procedures for the receiving, compiling, verifying, and editing of data received.
  • Managed shared network drives at the Regional or Installation level.
  • Provide website development and maintenance, systems administration, systems analysis, troubleshooting and technical support on FFSP software applications to FFSP staff.
  • Deliver training to staff in the use of software applications
  • Ensure classroom functionality (Internet and equipment support).

Qualifications

Required Skills and Knowledge
  • Educational qualifications are a bachelor's degree in quantitative analysis, information technology or a related field, a combination of bachelor's education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree or four years' equivalent experience. Data Analysts also demonstrate two years' experience providing qualitative or quantitative data compilation, analysis and reporting and two years' experience providing database management, IT maintenance and support, software application troubleshooting and helpdesk support.
  • Individual should be detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to work autonomously.
Required Work Experience
  • Demonstrated experience providing Learning Management services is required.
  • Learning Management System Specialists employees shall possess a broad range of specialized work experience including multi-tasking and customer service.

  • Knowledge of the FFSMIS system is desired but not required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365.
