Position Overview
ERT is seeking a Chief Software Engineer to support tasks at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Earth Prediction Innovation Center (EPIC). The key foci of this work for supporting the Unified Forecast System (UFS) models are to support the maintenance and expansion of EPIC; enhance collaboration within the earth sciences communities supporting USF and with NOAA; accelerate expansion of a publicly accessible end-to-end testing and development environment from pre- to post-processing and hosted with cloud computing resources. The ideal candidate will bring innovative ideas to enhance the modeling framework of the UFS and substantial experience with large-scale earth system numerical modeling and compute infrastructure.

The successful candidate will coordinate and oversee implementation of the design and coding of software components that meet product specification and development schedules for a scientific software development lifecycle; will oversee testing and debugging of assigned components adhering to product build and release schedules and strategies; and will adopt and implement strong configuration management practices, policies, and collaboration tools for management of source code, bugs, documentation and team workflow collaboration. The Chief Software Engineer will evaluate performance results and recommend changes affecting both short-term and long-term project growth and success; will function as a technical expert across multiple project assignments, implementing automated testing scripts where applicable and using agile coding practices to incorporate team and customer feedback quickly.

Required Skills

Manage the purchase, testing, installation, and support of network communications, including LAN/MAN/WAN systems. Perform system-level design and configuration of products including determination of hardware, OS, and other platform specifications. Additional duties include:

  • Plans large-scale systems projects through vendor comparison and cost studies.

Non-Degreed Vocational Teacher:

To be eligible for local certification in a Non-Degreed Vocational subject, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a high school diploma or GED, and document three years of full-time (or the equivalent part-time) occupational experience in the teaching assignment, and be employed in the FLVS Career and Technical Education program;

    1. Completion of a training program specific to the area, completed at a postsecondary vocational or technical institution approved by the State Board for Vocational Education in the state where the institution is located; or

    2. A valid certificate, or license issued by a recognized state or national credentialing agency in an area specific to the assignment (RN, Cosmetology, Fire Service Instructor, etc.); or

    3. A certificate of completion of an apprenticeship program, established by the U.S. Department of Labor or the Florida Department of Labor (Air Conditioning, Building Maintenance, Electrical Wiring, etc.); and be employed in the FLVS Career and Technical Education program.

Experience:

  • One year successful teaching experience within subject area OR successful completion of an FLVS instructional internship program OR current enrollment in an approved EPI or MAT program

  • Three years' teaching experience, preferred

  • Operational knowledge of the Internet and Web-related technologies
