**Description**
The Department of Ecology and Evolution at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Global Change and Disease Ecology. This position is designed to address the critical intersection of global change, infectious disease dynamics, and public health-an area of increasing importance in addressing global challenges. The focus of this position is to advance understanding of how global change, including changes in climate, land use, biodiversity loss and homogenization, urbanization, and global trade, influence host-pathogen dynamics, vector ecology, and zoonotic spillovers. The faculty member hired for this position will bring expertise in advanced quantitative approaches, including ecological or evolutionary modeling, genomics, or advanced computation (e.g., machine learning, deep learning, neural networks), to develop predictive frameworks for understanding and mitigating the effects of global change on disease ecology.
We seek a candidate who will be an effective teacher in undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of ecology and evolutionary biology, and who will develop a robust, externally funded, and internationally recognized research program that produces high-impact studies and fosters interdisciplinary collaborations with researchers in public health and medicine. Such a research program is expected to enhance and complement the work of our current faculty. Details of the department's areas of research emphasis and current facilities may be found at potential collaborations with faculty within the department, applicants would have the opportunity to leverage several external links in their research and teaching, including but not limited to opportunities associated with the New York Climate Exchange. This position is also expected to foster connections with relevant departments in the Health Sciences. The department interacts closely with the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, the Department of Anthropology, and the Institute for Advanced Computational Science, and has strong links with the Turkana Basin Institute in Kenya and Centre ValBio in Madagascar. In addition, Stony Brook has long-standing connections with Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and the New York Genome Center.
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in ecology, evolutionary biology, or a closely related field at the time of appointment; preference will be given to those with related post-doctoral experience. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses in ecology and evolutionary biology, with opportunities to develop specialized courses in infectious disease ecology and quantitative methods. They will teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, generate external funding to support their research, perform research, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, participate in departmental and university committees, and perform service to support the Department of Ecology and Evolution.

Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in evolution or ecology, or a field closely related to the subject of the search at the time of appointment. Evidence of research activity relevant to the subject of the search as demonstrated by peer reviewed publications.

Postdoctoral training in a field closely related to the subject of the search. High quality research and publications relevant to the subject of the search. History of, or strong potential for, attracting external funding. Proven experience or demonstrated potential as an effective teacher and mentor consistent with the Ecology & Evolution graduate program and mission of Stony Brook University. **Summary**
The person hired for this position will help with field research and data analysis for a Department of Energy funded project investigating potential visual cues that attract bats to wind turbines.
Field research for this position will start in mid-September and last approximately one month. During this time the researcher will be camping in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in Northern California.
The cost of travel to the field site and camping fees will be covered by the grant.
The remaining work will be conducted in the Sensory and Movement Ecology Lab, run by Dr. Aaron Corcoran from October 2025 through February 2026. There is the possibility for this portion of the work to be conducted remotely.
**Essential Functions**
The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
+ Setting up and monitoring audio and video equipment that are part of multiple ongoing experiments.
+ Working at night, as late as until 2-4am, depending on the night and conditions.
+ Working in challenging conditions.
+ Walking/hiking back and forth between site locations up to ½ mile at a time.
+ Conducting data analysis in the Sensory and Movement Ecology lab at UCCS, headed by Dr. Aaron Corcoran. This includes manual and semi-automated review of video data, development of machine learning image analysis techniques and quantitative analysis of results.
+ Working with undergraduate students in the lab, who will be assisting with the project.
+ Other duties as assigned

Responsible for coordination of all horticulture operations for the 39 acre Litzsinger Road Ecology Center (LREC) site, including planning, budgeting, installation, and maintenance of all native plant horticultural projects. Manages horticulture volunteers. Consults with the restoration supervisor to ensure that landscaping and plant production meet ecological and economic parameters. Assists in prairie, woodland, and stream restoration efforts. Collaborates with the LREC education team to provide leadership and outreach to school garden programs. Represents the Missouri Botanical Garden positively during public outreach opportunities, whose mission is to discover and share knowledge about plants and their environment in order to preserve and enrich life.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops, implements, maintains and documents innovative horticultural plans for LREC.
- Applies systems thinking principles to ensure long-term horticultural viability of LREC.
- Analyze, plan for, and respond to ecological interactions on site and in the broader community as they impact LREC operations.
- Responsible for effectively managing LREC's horticulture budget in coordination with the restoration supervisor.

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $187040 - $359720 annually.
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.

- Characterize and/or assess the impacts of anthropogenic activities on protected species, including but not limited to shipping, fishing, fishing bycatch, energy development, other human-caused potential threats, potential mitigation measures, and climate change.
- Produce technical and public outreach reporting materials related to the above including but not limited to annual marine mammal Stock Assessment Reports (SARs), journal manuscripts and tech memos, public presentations and web content.
- Assist with permits required for pinniped ecology research, including MMPA research permit, National Park Service (NPS) permit, US Fish and Wildlife (USFWS) permit, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) permits
- Create and/or maintain databases for survey data, telemetry data, environmental data, and other data streams; develop user-friendly processes to enter and extract such data.
