Join Our Team as a Natural Resources Technician!
Help protect and enhance our natural environment while engaging with the St. Paul community. As a Natural Resources Technician, you'll support habitat restoration, lead volunteer activities, and contribute to the planning and execution of environmental projects across the city.

Here's what you can expect to do:
  • Perform plant and wildlife identification, invasive species removal, and land management activities like planting and prescribed burning
  • Support and lead community engagement efforts, including coordinating volunteers and youth programming

Position Requirements
Requirements may be met by one of the following options:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Natural Resources, Ecology, Wildlife, Conservation Biology, Forestry, or related field. Up to four years of field experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
  • An Associate's Degree in Natural Resources, Ecology, Wildlife, Conservation Biology, Forestry, or related field and two years of related experience. Up to two years of field experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
Must possess or obtain a MN Noncommercial Pesticide Applicator License (categories A & E) within 3 months of hire.

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out of state driver's license.

Under supervision of the lead staff, Manager, or their designee, assists full-time staff in the maintenance of county conservation board lands, facilities, and equipment. Performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and laborer duties within the Conservation department; performs related work as assigned.

Illustrative Examples of Work

  1. Assists full-time staff with a variety of manual labor tasks required to maintain a county park system.
  2. Assists in the application of chemicals; assists with prescribing fire, invasive species control, prairie seed harvest and processing, and timber stand improvement duties.
  3. Participates in the care of trees, shrubs, and other plants. Clears brush, and removes invasive species.
  4. Assists with minor equipment repair and maintenance.
  5. Maintains and operates equipment such as hand tools, power tools, pick-ups, sprayers, tractors, utility vehicles, gators, mowers, and pressure washers.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • General knowledge of the techniques and methods used in tree maintenance, care and removal.

  • Knowledge in the mixing and application of herbicides is preferred.

  • Support novel approaches to implementing Esri's software in support of our customers across multiple industries as the capabilities of the software evolves
  • Foster a sense of community among our customers, distributors, and partners
  • Influence key business processes that can be optimized by leveraging our technology
  • Lead project teams during the entire project lifecycle, including requirements, analysis, design, build, and implementation; collect and organize client requirements, objectives, and business workflows to translate into meaningful and actionable strategies and plans
  • Create and manage the scope, cost, schedule, and contractual deliverables through planning, tracking, quality assurance, change control, and risk management
  • Establish, develop, and expand relationships with customers, partners, and distributors to drive next-gen solutions
  • Work with our marketing and sales teams to develop business into new markets
  • Lead innovative proposals and win work that showcases forward-leaning solutions; mitigate challenges through proper escalation to achieve project and program completion
  • Support the development of others though our network of organizational teams and professional communities

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience supporting the design, implementation, and administration of enterprise geospatial technology (ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, and/or ArcGIS Platform)
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas to technical peers, project managers, and customers
  • Demonstrated ability to translate a customer's business goals, objectives, and strategies into technical solutions
  • Professional experience winning new work in collaboration with sales and business development teams including proposal management experience preparing executive summaries, solution definition, scope of work, staffing, and pricing
  • Experience leveraging Esri's software capabilities including, mapping, field operations, spatial analysis and data science, 3D visualization and analytics, data management, and developer APIs
  • Entrepreneurial attitude and willingness to learn - you must thrive in a dynamic, cross-functional team environment

  • Bachelor's Degree in geography, computer science, GIS, information systems, environmental science, natural resources, forestry, or a related STEM field

Recommended Qualifications

  • Experience with current technology implementation patterns including service-oriented and cloud computing architecture
  • Experience with ArcGIS, location-based services, geo-enabled apps, spatial analytics, or similar geospatial technology
  • Understanding of IT integration concepts such as databases, web services, webhooks, mobile device configurations, web browsers, IT system architecture concepts
  • Master`s Degree in geography, computer science, GIS, information systems, environmental science, natural resources, forestry, or a related STEM field

Base salary is one component of our total rewards strategy. Compensation decisions and the base range for this role take into account many factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range is $104,000—$177,840 USD
