Most MHS graduates are first generation college students. This position is responsible for supporting approximately 200 college students at a variety of college campuses across the state and country.

This position's responsibilities are to provide medical assistance to a student(s) with special medical needs by providing nursing care as outlined in the health care plan. Nursing care includes: assessing the health needs of the student, planning and implementing appropriate nursing care, and evaluating nursing care provided. The LPN provides nursing care under the direction and supervision of the school nurse. Other responsibilities include support/assistance to the student(s) during class-time, supervision to and from school on district transportation and during off-site educational activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Depending upon the individual assignment, the Clerk - LPN, Special Education, may perform all or a combination of the following:
1. Provides nursing care as delegated by school nurse and as outlined in individual health care plans. Nursing care may include non-oral medications (i.e., injections, eye/ear medications), mixing medications, blood glucose monitoring, nasogastric and J-tube feedings, suctioning and tracheotomy care, feeding and medication by G-tube, performing clean intermittent catheterization, providing nebulizer treatments, and other nursing care appropriate for a LPN. Health care plans are developed and monitored by the school nurse.
2. Administers medication to students as directed by physician, according to district and supervising nurse procedures.
3. Assists teacher and therapists with the implementation of instructional programs, activities for daily living, and related services.
4. Maintains student health records; creates new records; updates health information; ensures that health records are maintained in confidential manner.
5. Monitors student attendance and illnesses; informs the principal, program administrator, school nurse and/or teacher of illnesses and reasons for absences.
6. Attends to student health needs; assesses injuries or illness to determine appropriate action; provides basic first aid; refers students to health care professionals as needed. Determines need for nurse's advice; calls nurse for assistance as necessary; may call for emergency assistance. Calls parents regarding student accidents or illness as needed; arranges for transportation home as necessary.
7. Compiles health records, cards, and lists; provides reports as requested. Documents student health status as appropriate. Completes accident reports and distributes them appropriately.
8. Maintains inventory of student health supplies, prepares supply orders; assures that supplies are provided by family to provide necessary nursing care.
9. Monitors student behavior in the classroom, on the bus, during off-site school activities.
10. Reports situations such as substance abuse or physical abuse to appropriate school staff for follow-up. Maintains confidentiality of student personal problems.
11. Works as a member of the program team in staffing to develop and implement programs and services.
12. May have flexible hours to allow employee to participate in family or community activities related to this program.
13. Meets with the school nurse on a regular basis to review student health status, review procedures, and/or make adjustments in the health care plan.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
14. May, in conjunction with school nurse, provide information to parents about health issues.
15. Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

Reports to assigned program administrator; receives lead guidance from school nurse.
MENTAL DEMANDS
Experiences frequent interruptions; required to deal with a wide range of student behaviors and academic abilities. Required to deal with a wide range of physical and/or emotional disabilities which may include distraught or difficult students; may be required to deal with distraught or difficult parents. May be required to shift task and priority. Frequently required to deal with situations that could put them in position of liability.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Record keeping requires substantial visual concentration; may be exposed to visual display terminals; potentially exposed to ordinary infectious diseases carried by students; required to attend to students' personal hygiene; required to take precautions to avoid exposure to student bodily fluids, disinfectants and medications. May be required to move ill or injured students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Education, training, skills, and experience necessary to carry out the assignment, including experience maintaining accurate records. LPN license required. Previous experience in health care strongly preferred.

Position Summary
CSU Spur is seeking two motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join the Education Team as temporary hourly Education Support Facilitators. These individuals will be part of a team delivering programs at the CSU Spur campus in Denver that inspire life-long learners to tackle global problems around food, water, and health, and will play a key role in the future of educational offerings at a brand-new state-of-the art campus.
Education Support Facilitators will support the CSU Spur vision and Education Team by executing the daily programmatic logistics and delivery necessary for successful educational experiences at Spur for pre-K-12 audiences, families, community partners, and general campus visitors. This position is responsible for delivering educational content both in classroom program facilitation and exhibit interpretation, engaging with on site visitors, and collaborating with staff and volunteers to support the programmatic goals of the CSU Spur campus.
This role will have a variable schedule, which may include weekends, and could include some evenings. The individuals in this role are requested to work up to 30 hours a week.
This position is supervised by the CSU Spur School Programs Coordinator.
Program Areas of Interpretation:
+ Food: In the Terra building, education staff will be working with partners on controlled agriculture, food systems education, urban gardening, nutrition education, and food development processes.
+ Water: In the Hydro building, educators will partner with Denver Water experts to provide experiences around water conservation, quality, and water systems. Programming will include usage of an outdoor backyard garden space that connects to the South Platte River for riparian ecosystem programming.
+ Health: In the Vida building, the education team will interpret live veterinary procedures, equine-assisted services, and equine rehabilitation therapy in partnership with the Dumb Friends League, the Temple Grandin Equine Center, and CSU Equine Sports Medicine, providing opportunities for visitors and school groups to learn about animal and human health through active observation and engagement.
These individuals will learn new and innovative ways to provide educational programming through virtual reality, in person hands on interactive experiences, exhibit interpretation, indoor and outdoor learning opportunities, and live interpretation of on show surgical procedures, animal therapy, equine assisted services, as well as cooking, planting, and water demonstrations.
Flexibility and an openness to learn and try new ideas and experiences is highly encouraged.
Position Minimum Qualifications
+ 2 years' experience working with children, families, and multigenerational audiences, which may include working in schools, informal education, or customer service.
+ Demonstrated experience in public speaking or public demonstrations.
+ Available to serve a diverse weekly schedule, including evenings, weekdays, and weekends.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Excel)
Preferred Qualifications
+ Ability to communicate with program constituents in both Spanish and English is preferred.
+ Familiar with scientific concepts surrounding food, water, and environmental health.
+ Demonstrated experience delivering exceptional customer service.
+ Demonstrated knowledge of, and relevant ability with communities in urban and rural settings.
+ Primarily availability is from 9 am to 2 pm to support school group engagement.
