**Responsibilities**
Perform diagnostic electroencephalograph (EEG) testing.
+ Attach, connect, and operate electrodes from specified body areas to leads from electroencephalograph machine.
+ Review patient's record and instruct patients prior to procedures. Monitor patient during procedures and reports any abnormal findings.
+ Identify and correct for artifacts. Edit and forward results to attending physician for analysis and interpretation.
+ Maintain EEG equipment and supplies.

+ BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Under indirect supervision, operate EEG equipment and perform a variety of technician duties to measure impulse frequencies and differences in electrical potential between various areas of the brain on out-patients and in-patents including those in isolation units in order to obtain data for use by a physician in the diagnosis of brain disorders. Follow established practices, procedures, techniques, and testing norms.
Essential Responsibilities:

- Interview patients and review medical records to determine physical and emotional state so as to be prepared to perform remedial action or call for assistance.
- Screen incoming EEG referrals for urgency and appropriate activation procedures.
- Advise patient on the Eeg procedure.
- Position patient for testing and attach electrodes to patient in predetermined positions on forehead, scalp, and ears in conformance w/ established practices and procedures or instructions of physician.
- Record ohmmeter reading of electrodes or determine if resistance meets specified levels.
- Reapply any surface electrodes that have high resistance.
- Monitor patients brain wave activity to determine readiness for examination.
- Set battery of selector switch as determined by EEG procedure in progress and activate machine.
- Observe wave characteristics to detect evidence of brain disorders; mark machine graph and refer rare or complex cases to physicians.
- Observe patient and eliminate from consideration all artifacts patiently- induced or induced by activity near the EEG center.
- Record reactions to introduced stimuli such as flashing lights or intermittent tones or to activities induced by rapid breathing.
- Stop machine and remove electrodes from patient.
- Identify EEG graph w/ patients name, etc, and log information.
- Examine characteristics of tracings in detail to detect any evidence of disorders not noted during examination.
- Write reports on unusual wave characteristics and describe possible problems and comment on any special observations.
- Monitor EMG as required.
- Perform sleep studies and special studies such as brain deaths.
- Perform other duties as required to include preparing monthly patient schedule, compiling laboratory statistics, writing and filing regular reports, cleaning and stocking machines and other supplies, sending dictated EEG reports to physicians, performing minor maintenance, and attending training meetings.
- Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.

**Job Summary**
The EEG Technician performs electroencephalograms (EEGs) and evoked potential (EVP) tests using specialized equipment to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological conditions. This role involves patient assessment, observation, and care documentation, ensuring procedures are conducted safely and accurately. The EEG Technician operates independently, maintaining a clean and organized work environment and adhering to safety standards.
**Essential Functions**
+ Performs EEGs and EVPs as ordered by physicians, following established departmental policies and procedures.
+ Communicates with patients and families to explain procedures, ensuring comfort and promoting a positive patient experience.
+ Observes and documents patient condition changes that may affect test outcomes and communicates these changes to the appropriate medical staff.
+ Schedules patient appointments and manages follow-up communications and mailings for procedures.
+ Accurately inputs and verifies charges in the computer system to ensure correct billing and financial documentation.
+ Maintains a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work area, ensuring all equipment is in proper working condition for patient care.
+ Responds promptly to on-call cases and adjusts the self-scheduling and call schedule to support departmental needs.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
+ Complies with all policies and standards.
**Qualifications**
+ Technical School completion of a formal EEG Technician training program preferred
+ 0-2 years of experience in performing EEGs or related clinical experience required
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
+ Knowledge of EEG and EVP procedures and equipment.
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
+ Ability to work independently and make responsible decisions in a clinical environment.
+ Basic computer skills for entering charges, managing schedules, and documenting patient information.
+ Attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain accurate records and a clean work area.
**Licenses and Certifications**
+ BCLS - Basic Life Support required

**Essential Functions**
+ Performs routine and continuous EEG procedure hookups using best-practice electrode placement.
+ Ability to use medical equipment and computers to perform neurodiagnostic procedures.
+ Monitors and tracks equipment and supplies.
+ Performs technical documentation and charting of neurodiagnostic patient procedures.
+ Demonstrated communication skills with patients, providers, and other caregivers.
+ Under the direction of Registered EEG Technologists and Continuous Long-Term Monitoring Technologists, performs Video/EEG monitoring with accompanying documentation.

**Required Qualifications**
+ High School Graduate or GED
+ BLS Certification or RQI for Healthcare Providers
+ Availability to work varying shifts which may include nights, weekends, and on-call.

+ 1 year of clinical or direct patient care experience
+ Previous neuro-diagnostic experience
+ Enrollment in or graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited Electroneurodiagnostic (END) Program, or ASET EEG Core curriculum program
**Physical Requirements:**
+ Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
+ Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
+ Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
+ Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
+ Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
+ May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
+ For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing, and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

Provides non-invasive EEG testing and continuous monitoring for Neurology/Epilepsy patients in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
(EMU), including computer set up, editing, and data mining. Responsible for the production of high quality neurodiagnostic tests
needed to provide physicians with clinical data to aid in establishing a diagnosis. Communicates and works with Neurologists in a
manner that improves patient care.
**Education**
Minimum Graduate of an accredited Electroneurodiagnostic Program (END) program or on the job training with a
minimum of two years experience.
Preferred Graduate of an accredited Electroneurodiagnostic Program (END) with a minimum of an Associates Degree
and one year electroneurodiagnostic experience.
**Credentials/Licensure**
Minimum Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
Preferred Associates Degree in Health Sciences. Ability to complete certification as an EEG Technologist by the
American Board of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (ABRET) within two years of hire.
**Related Experience**
Minimum Satisfactory completion of CCF EEG Course and Testing.
Preferred Non-invasive EEG testing competence
