**Job Summary and Qualifications**
**Administer/perform and document all EEG procedures. Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting all aspects of patient care. Technician will work closely with all health care providers to facilitate and coordinate efficient, effective, quality health care. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of applicable patient growth and development, possess the ability to assess data reflective of patient's age-specific needs; and, have the ability to provide care needed by all treated patient group(s). Technician will implement and/or comply with all the policies, procedures and standards of the department and the institution.**
**What you will do in this role:**
+ Performs routine, sleep and portable EEG studies as well as cerebral death studies on adult, neonatal and pediatric patients according to the policies and procedures of the EEG lab.
+ Ensures quality patient care is provided within the defined area of accountability of doing EEG procedures.
+ Distributes EEG reports to inpatients' charts, faxes outpatient reports to the ordering physician; maintains copy of all reports in files and on computer networks and hard drives.
+ Communicates with responsible neurologist regarding all ordered and requested EEGs. Informs Neurologist when testing is completed. Assists neurologist with interpretation related duties.
+ Serves as a liaison for Cardiopulmonary Dept. to promote physician, interdepartmental and intra departmental relationships.
+ Assures all EEG reports are available for the physician to read on a daily basis.
+ Assures customer services to include; respect, courtesy, compassion and confidentiality
+ Initiates and documents patient teaching including family and/or significant others. Uses appropriate patient education documentation modality.
+ Actively participates in continuing education within the field of Neurology/EEG.
**What qualifications you will need:**
+ High School Graduate / GED
+ Basic Cardiac Life Support, or CPR for Healthcare Providers must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
+ Graduate of EEG program or 3 years' experience as an EEG Technologist or facility based training program.
+ EEG certification obtained with 24 months of hire
+ Minimum of 1-year experience as EEG technologist preferred; Two years' experience with adult patients as EEG Technologist with completion of EEG Technology Program preferred. Registered EEG technologist preferred.

**Essential Functions**
+ Demonstrated knowledge of epileptic syndromes, seizure, and pattern recognition including the ability to recognize epileptic and non-epileptic syndromes and diseases.
+ Experienced in long-term EEG monitoring including intermittent, and continuous/real-time monitoring.
+ Experienced in identifying, tracking, and documenting multiple aspects of EEG including background EEG changes, behavior, and epileptiform pattern identification following ACNS guidelines.
+ Competent in the use and troubleshoot of EEG acquisition systems, the associated equipment settings, and study montages.
+ Completes and follows intermittent and continuous documentation in the recording and within the EMR.
+ Knowledge of advanced neurodiagnostic procedures including surgical grids, brain mapping, SPECT, and WADA testing. Able to create and manipulate advanced montages used in advanced neurodiagnostic procedures.
+ Identify anatomical clinical manifestations relating to EEG changes, and document clinical behavior.
+ Identifies opportunities to expand knowledge, mentor, and train coworkers.
+ Demonstrated communication skills with healthcare professionals and physicians for event notification and patient concerns while following established communication protocols.

**Description**
1. Ensures electrode application in adherence with the International 10-20 System
2. Knowledgeable in correct EEG performance and recognition of clinically significant events and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results
3. Maintains the patient's safety through communication to other patient care support staff during EEG if needed
4. Continues to learn and apply basic and intermediate EEG waveform recognition, relevant medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, infection control, current HIPPA practices, contraindications for activation procedures, instrumentation and preparation for use
5. Performs patient assessment as related to care such as electrode fixation product allergies, movement restrictions, and cognitive function
6. Knows and recognizes drug and physiological status effects on activity monitored
7. Communicates appropriately and effectively with the patient and healthcare staff to convey the purpose of the EEG and answers questions regarding the procedure
8. Understands why and how to maintain correct electrode connections
9. Identifies and performs basic and intermediate technical troubleshooting and artifact identification and eliminations
10. Understands and follows concepts of digital equipment and electrical safety within the EEG unit
11. Has knowledge of alternate montages, protocols, and alternate equipment settings and their effects should be applied
12. Familiar with the facility policy and procedures for completion of the technical EEG report, charging procedures, and logging the patient into files
13. Contacts supervisory staff as appropriate for problems within the EEG unit, stocks supplies and prepares patient rooms for EEG procedures
14. Other duties as assigned

The position provides patient care and physician support through the monitoring of advanced long-term neurodiagnostic procedure using neurodiagnostic technologies, and through coordination of care with other health care professionals.

**Essential Functions**
+ Demonstrated knowledge of epileptic syndromes, seizure, and pattern recognition including the ability to recognize epileptic and non-epileptic syndromes and diseases.
+ Experienced in long-term EEG monitoring including intermittent, and continuous/real-time monitoring.
+ Experienced in identifying, tracking, and documenting multiple aspects of EEG including background EEG changes, behavior, and epileptiform pattern identification following ACNS guidelines.
+ Competent in the use and troubleshoot of EEG acquisition systems, the associated equipment settings, and study montages.
+ Completes and follows intermittent and continuous documentation in the recording and within the EMR.
+ Knowledge of advanced neurodiagnostic procedures including surgical grids, brain mapping, SPECT, and WADA testing. Able to create and manipulate advanced montages used in advanced neurodiagnostic procedures.
+ Identify anatomical clinical manifestations relating to EEG changes, and document clinical behavior.
+ Identifies opportunities to expand knowledge, mentor, and train coworkers.
+ Demonstrated communication skills with healthcare professionals and physicians for event notification and patient concerns while following established communication protocols.

+ Availability to work varying shifts which may include nights, weekends, and on-call.
+ Familiarity with technology including EEG acquisition systems and Microsoft Office.

+ 3+ year of clinical EEG experience or direct patient care experience.
+ 1 year experience as a Registered EEG Technologist.
+ Proven ability to mentor and provide technical oversight to junior technicians.

+ Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
+ Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
+ Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
+ Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
+ May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
+ For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing, and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
