The EHS Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day environmental, health and safety functions at an assigned facility. The EHS Manager will implement the organization’s safety program, work with personnel to maintain a safe and healthy work environment, and monitor the facility and processes for adherence to OSHA, EPA, Wisconsin DNR, DOT, and other local regulations and guidelines. Additionally, this role is responsible for the elimination of industrial incidents, conducting environmental monitoring and reporting, providing assistance with environmental permit applications, and assisting with internal EHS audits. This position works closely with cross-functional teams throughout the facility and leads the pursuit of zero incidents. The EHS Manager is also responsible for ensuring that the environmental regulatory compliance functions to ensure that Generac operations are conducted in conformance with all applicable federal, state and local laws, permits and regulations while maximizing the use of industry best practices.


Essential Duties:

  • Serve as the primary hazardous waste engineer, leading efforts to reduce hazardous waste and implement recycling programs. Direct industrial hygiene sampling and support
  • Manage the facility SDS/Hazard Communication program
  • Manage and perform the planning, training, inspection, reporting and recordkeeping requirements for all environmental and safety compliance programs
  • Lead training efforts for EHS related activities within assigned facility
  • Provide engaging environmental, health, and safety leadership to the facility employees
  • Lead Executive and Employee Safety Committees
  • Develop and support strategic initiatives designed to produce best in class EHS performance
  • Act as the facility champion for the EHS Drive to Zero program
  • Conduct audits to ensure that consistent, best-in-class results and compliance are followed to enable operational excellence. Prepare reports of findings with recommendations for corrective action
  • Conduct and document monthly inspections of hazardous waste accumulation/chemical storage areas
  • Perform Job Safety Analysis of all worksite activities and lead actions for controls and countermeasures
  • Leads safety observation efforts in sites within assigned facility
  • Perform ergonomic and safety risk assessments virtually or hands-on for product and process capability
  • Lead the identification, assessment and resolution of ergonomic issues including physical part validation of acceptability to ergonomic standards
  • Observe workers to determine proper use of prescribed safety equipment and procedures. Train and demonstrate proper use of safety equipment
  • Investigate incidents (including injuries, property damage, near misses, releases, and losses) to determine root causes and prepares/directs corrective and preventive action plans
  • Acts as facility champion for implementation of risk reduction controls
  • Minimize waste by driving initiatives surrounding reduction, recycling and supply chain partnerships
  • Act as SAP Super User within functional area as assigned
  • Serve as the Data Management Systems Administrator for assigned plant
  • Manage EHS Specialist as a direct report depending on the size of the facility
  • Travel between facilities as needed


Minimal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of progressive EHS experience
  • 3 years of implementation experience with safety related programs


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s in Business Administration, Engineering, or EHS related field
  • Experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Solid understanding of waste management regulations
  • Experience in the implementation of lean principals and improvements
  • CHMM, CSP, CIH, or PE Certification
  • Previous experience using SAP or equivalent ERP
  • Previous experience with meeting FTZ/Security requirements
  • Experience preparing semi-annual and annual environmental reports (e.g., Tier II, emission inventory, hazardous waste, TRI, air permit monitoring, etc.)


Knowledge, Skills & Ability:

  • Demonstrated understanding of OSHA, EPA, WDNR, DOT and local regulations
  • Proven knowledge of safety equipment and standards
  • Demonstrated ability to influence management, teams and individuals across multiple functions within the organization
  • Excellent working knowledge of ergonomic analysis tools
  • Proven track record of successfully managing shifting deadlines and priorities in a fast paced environment
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; able to train/present to an executive level audience

**A Brief Summary of This Position**
The EHS Manager serves as the principal health and safety professional for the Bartow operations located in Bartow, FL. The incumbent will provide guidance and support to local management on the design, implementation and maintenance of processes that support Valmont's Health and Safety Management System (e.g., Health and Safety Playbook). The position reports to the Plant Manager and requires collaboration with company employees at all levels in the workforce. This position is accountable for establishing the overall strategic direction for the facility's safety and loss prevention/reduction initiatives in conformance with corporate initiatives and direction. This is a "hands-on" position requiring regular, shop floor and requires occasional travel to other locations.
**Essential Functions**
+ Serve as site's initial point of contact for governmental regulatory agencies on issues related to health and safety.
+ Consult with all departments on use of equipment, fire prevention, health and safety programs.
+ Lead the implementation and maintenance of health and safety risk assessment tools designed to identify, prioritize and control exposure to the sites most significant safety risks.
+ Demonstrable knowledge of current health and safety technologies and processes such as ergonomics risk assessments, industrial hygiene exposure assessments, electrical arc flash hazard analyses and machinery safety principles.
+ Demonstrated ability to prioritize a large number of different projects to completion.
+ Track record of making effective decisions, even when dealing with limited or ambiguous information.

+ Identifies action-based health and safety goals for site leadership team members and supervisors to support achievement of site-specific targets and objectives.
+ Utilizes the company's Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) database to manage data related to health and safety events such as injuries, workers compensation claims, near miss incidents and regulatory agency inspections.
+ Leads the deployment of site health and safety committees and facilitates their engagement in ownership of the activities required to maintain compliance and drive continuous improvement.
+ Manages development and maintenance of training processes to ensure that required health and safety training is defined, addresses required content and is tracked to completion.
+ Coordinates utilization of Valmont's EHS Management of Change process to evaluate potential health and safety impacts associated with business activity changes.

**Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)**

**Working Environment and Physical Efforts**
In addition to an office setting, the incumbent also spends a portion of his/her time outside during all seasons of the year and in the manufacturing areas. The incumbent is expected to wear all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as required. This position is exposed to all hazards located at manufacturing sites including noise, fumes, excessive heat and cold, dust, welding arc, all chemicals associated with the manufacturing areas, fire, smoke, unstable debris, confined spaces, and working in high areas. Some travel to domestic locations may be required (5 percent).
While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. **Summary**
The **Environmental, Health, & Safety (EH&S)** **Manager** is responsible for company-wide leadership to further build on a culture of safety throughout the company. **Essential Job Duties**
+ Maintains, updates, and improves an EH&S management system focused on employee involvement, risk reduction, injury prevention, vehicular accident prevention, environmental compliance, and continuous improvement for the manufacturing, field service, sales, and corporate functions of the business.
+ Responsible for defining, tracking, managing, and reporting of EH&S KPIs.
+ Mentors and coaches the organization as it relates to EH&S.
+ Establishes a companywide audit program including periodic audits to check for compliance to the EH&S policies and procedures.
+ Leads and facilitates the Corporate Safety Committee.
+ Reviews work content to identify risks caused by physical, ergonomic, and behavioral factors and makes appropriate recommendations to reduce those risks.

+ Performs thorough and timely investigations to determine root causes and corrective actions associated with near-miss incidents, accident investigations, environmental incidents, and compliance inspections with the responsible managers to prevent and eliminate future risks.
+ Manages the EH&S Specialist and other company staff in maintaining EH&S permits, understanding regulations, and ensuring all environmental reports are submitted on time.
+ Partners with the Fleet Manager to further develop the driving safety program, including the Smith System, and provides input on best-in-class safety improvement processes for fleet operations.
+ Manages the industrial hygiene monitoring and works with the facilities to implement corrective measures accordingly as it relates to air sampling and noise level studies.
+ Manages the EH&S Specialist to complete all 3rd party safety vendor relationships to ensure the company is compliant with their requirements.
+ Ensure compliance and proper record-keeping with local, state, and federal laws, regulations, permits, and company-mandated policies and procedures in environmental, health, and safety.
+ Responsible for the development of both direct and indirect reports, peers, and upper management through education on best practices including corporate, plant, and field operations staffing.
+ Manages the activities of the Corporate EH&S Specialist and identifies future staffing needs.

+ Actively participate in Gemba, MDI, and other business activities.
+ Conduct EHS training for employees, visitors, and contractors; maintain records of attendance and training program content.
+ Assist in creating and maintaining EHS programs and procedures, per regulations, Allegion requirements, or site needs.
+ Coordinate and actively participate in safety team(s) and first responder meetings; assume leadership responsibilities during meetings and committee activities.
+ Promote awareness activities and guidance to workers to prevent accidents and illnesses through continuous educational campaigns.
+ Ensure prompt communication of incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions or hazards, and EHS concerns to all levels of management and shifts.
+ Lead incident investigations and root cause determinations and assist in corrective and preventive action implementation.
+ Perform risk assessments and data trend analyses; prioritize and complete risk reduction activities.
+ Perform audits and inspections regularly of the workplace, ensuring compliance to regulatory standards, and Allegion and local policies. Track corrective action and preventive action findings to closure.
+ Direct emergency response planning and response.  Provides necessary training to emergency response personnel.  Schedule and facilitate emergency response drills. 
+ Steer the review of new or modified processes, procedures, equipment, facilities and chemical or physical agents; identify and control potential hazards to employees, the community and/or the potential hazards to employees, the community and/or the environment.  Assist in the development of recommendations necessary to reduce risk to acceptable levels.
+ Interact with other Allegion EHS teams; engage in EHS calls and meetings, EHS Kaizens, such as events focused on ergonomic risk reduction, JSAs, machine guarding, LOTO, ASI module deployment, and other similar activities.
+ Prepare and review specifications and orders for the purchase of EHS equipment, ensuring that proper features are present and that items conform to EHS standards. 
+ Lead and support other EHS projects and initiatives as needed.
+ Keep abreast of pertinent changes and developments within the field of environmental health and safety.  Ensure and maintain professional development and exchange via attendance at meetings, conferences and courses.
+ Perform other related duties as required in a timely manner to meet all established deadlines with a high level of attention to detail.
**What You Need to Succeed**
+ Bachelor's degree in environmental health & safety, business, or manufacturing/engineering.
+ 3+ years of experience in environmental health and safety in a manufacturing setting.
+ Excellent communication, interpersonal and teambuilding skills. This role is **not** a people leader role; the ability to influence without authority will be key.
+ Proven ability to work effectively with all levels in a matrix organization.
+ Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and use sound judgment.
+ Exceptional project management skills.
+ Travel outside of assigned location is estimated at 5-10%
+ Strong knowledge and experience with federal and local environmental, health, and safety agency regulations and compliance requirements.
**Additional Preferred Skills and Qualifications**
+ Professional certification or designation preferred (CSP, CIH, CHMM, or CEM).
+ Application knowledge of International Building Code, FM Global, and NFPA standards and regulations is a plus.
+ ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 or OHSAS 18001 experience is a plus.
