**Job Summary:**
Caterpillar's Motor and Generator Components team designs and develops multiple voltage and power class motors and generators used in CAT machines and stationary applications. As more CAT products become electrified, there is a growing need to develop a full product line of components to support them. Strong, cross organizational collaboration and technical curiosity will be a must in this fast-paced development environment.
**What You Will Do:**
The Technical Fellow/Expert - Electric Motors and Generators role will provide strategic direction for a team of engineers to deliver motor and generator designs focused on near term production, supporting existing production components, growing our supply base, and establishing execution excellence.
The Technical Fellow/Expert functions serve as thought leaders, mentors, consultants, and company experts in their focus area of technical expertise. Their decisions and recommendations are recognized as authoritative and have an important impact on extensive engineering activity. The Technical Fellow/Expert is responsible for delivering value to the enterprise by acquiring, developing, applying, and sustaining technical knowledge in their focus area of technical expertise to advance and innovate, product development processes and product designs that enable Caterpillar to meet the end customer's cost, performance, durability and quality needs. The Technical Fellow/Expert applies their knowledge to Caterpillar's most challenging technical problems that require understanding and consideration of all elements within the business (e.g. product/process tradeoffs, manufacturability, cost, regulatory requirements, etc.).
This role will focus on setting the strategy and execution of our full line of component offerings, improving each offering through each design phase and shaping the future of how these components are applied across the corporation.
+ Insulation Systems & Wire, Electro-Mechanical Design & Manufacturing Integration Leadership
+ Core foundation and technical expertise in the electric insulation & mechanical content of an electric motor and generator.
+ Technical guidance for magnet wire, resin, epoxy, insulation materials, lamination steel, mechanical interactions between the motor and environment, etc.
+ Create, maintain and ensure adherence to key motor design guides, Books of Knowledge, etc. across all motor product development.
+ Define, maintain end enforce proper classification and protection of Caterpillar motor IP including patent applications, trade secrets, etc.

+ Development experience (from white paper to production)
+ Advanced cooling system leadership
+ Expertise with VPD - strategy, capability development, how & when to use to maximize velocity and minimize R&D
**Products and Services: Extensive experience and knowledge of major products and services and product and service groups; ability to apply knowledge of product and service appropriately to diverse situations.**

At the direction of the Shop Manager, Motor Repair Mechanics are responsible for the proper disassembly and evaluation of various electric motor styles including troubleshooting. Technicians are also responsible for the assembly, quality control and testing processes involved in electric motor repair. Field Service positions are also available to properly qualified individuals.
Motor Repair Mechanic Essential Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following :
- Disassemble mechanical AC & DC motors, gear units and pumps.
- Assemble mechanical AC & DC motors, gear units and pumps.
- Diagnose problems and failures of incoming units to ensure the customer’s complaint is resolved.
- Interpret and apply dimensional measurements.
- Measure and record electrical data, mechanical fits and clearances.
- Write up work scopes for all necessary materials in order to complete the repair.
- Follow all necessary instructions in order to complete the repair.
- Electrically connect repaired apparatus for test runs.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work area.
- Organize and maintain personal and shop tools and equipment.

- 2 years' mechanical assembly and disassembly experience.
- Ability to read mechanical prints and schematics.

**Required Qualifications:** Per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. Two years of experience in mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid Class B NYS Driver's License (CDL). **Brief Description of Duties:** The Service & Repair Assistant (Motor Equipment) performs semiskilled motor equipment and mechanical maintenance and repair work generally under the supervision of a Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Motor Equipment).
+ Perform routine or semiskilled diagnosis regarding the breakdowns of gas or diesel powered self-propelled and non-self-propelled vehicles and equipment. Requires assistance from a Maintenance Mechanic or Supervisor for test equipment operation and analysis of results.
+ Performs minor repairs as required after diagnosis to all systems, including, but not limited to electrical, hydraulics, compressed air, steering, automatic and manual transmission/clutches-all engine and cooling related minor repairs- chassis and body repair including glass, seats, trim, and sheet metal.
+ Assists Service & Repair Mechanics in their duties when a second person is required.
+ Makes periodic inspections on State vehicles as required using prescribed procedures for the fleet safety and preventive maintenance.
+ Operates general shop power and hand tools required to perform necessary routine/minor repairs including lifts, lathes, and grinding equipment.
+ Performs routine/minor road service and wrecker service as required and as directed.
+ Assists with maintaining parts inventory. Puts parts away, takes inventory levels and keeps records of such. Keeps part's storeroom organized and free from clutter.
+ Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
**Special Notes:** This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. We are currently in search of an Electrical Engineer or Senior Engineer who will be based onsite at our combined cycle plant, the Bobby C. Smith plant in Rincon, Georgia.
Electrical Engineer
The Electrical Engineer provides fleet engineering, Subject Matter Expertise, and technical support for the power systems and electrical equipment used at Oglethorpe Power Corporation's (OPC) power generating facilities. This includes low, medium, and high voltage switchgear; motor controls center apparatus; segmented, non-segmented, and isophase bus work; digital protective relays; large electric generators; and generator step up and auxiliary transformers.
- Competency, knowledge, and experience are required in "industry standard" electrical testing with the preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance with the associated power systems and electrical equipment.
- The incumbent shall be responsible for the OPC's fleet wide NERC PRC and MOD electrical testing program and related reporting to enable compliance with NERC/SERC standards.
- The incumbent will provide subject matter expertise with the design, selection, modification, and replacement of digital protective relays for plant power systems and electrical equipment.
- As a member of the Technical Services team, the incumbent will also provide engineering support for the review of drawings, specifications, and design memoranda for generation projects in development or under construction.
Job Duties:
- Subject Matter Expertise with technical support and engineering for power plant electrical systems and electrical equipment
- Planning the scope for plant electrical systems and electrical equipment with planned maintenance outages.
- Oversee and/or perform the electrical testing and inspections with predictive and preventive maintenance programs for OPC's power plants.
- Serve as the OPC technical advisor with defining and standardizing the predictive and preventive maintenance programs (CMMS/Maximo) for power plant electrical systems and equipment across the OPC fleet.

The Sr. Engineer will oversee Electrical Testing and Predictive/Preventive Maintenance Programs at plants owned/operated or contracted to operate by Oglethorpe Power. The incumbent will be responsible for planning such efforts as major generator outages at Oglethorpe Plants and the design, selection, and implementation of new control systems at Oglethorpe Plants. The incumbent will help with planning, reviewing, and monitoring annual electrical inspections and draft annual reports on facilities owned/operated or contracted to operate by Oglethorpe Power. The incumbent will provide business, administrative, and technical support for plant managers and other personnel as needed, including the design of new plant systems or modifications to existing plant systems, planning, budgeting, and performance analysis for facilities owned/operated or contracted to operate by Oglethorpe Power. The incumbent will help in the procedure writing of actual plant procedures to enable compliance with NERC/SERC standards such as reactive power validation. As a member of Technical Services, the incumbent will also provide services, such as reviewing drawings, specifications, design memoranda, etc. to generation projects in development or under construction.

They will ensure electrical project work is completed in a safe, efficient, and timely manner and in compliance with environmental requirements and to work cooperatively to plan, schedule, and execute all control system activities in the plant in order to maximize equipment utilization and reliability.
The Electrical Engineer will also be a part of the the company's Build4Growth Program. This is an extensive, 16-month cement manufacturing learning and development program designed to provide new graduate engineers with foundational knowledge and experience on the main operational areas of our cement plants. This program is built on a blended learning approach including online learning, face-to-face sessions, on-the-job assignments, and projects.
WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
