Position Description:

Designs, modifies, develops, writes, and implements software-programming for generator control switchgear applications. Relies on various instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Work is often completed independently but may be completed under supervision or verified at completion.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify retrofit opportunities, scope projects, and support proposal creation via Dealer and Factory teams
  • Perform technical risk management for field performance of assigned projects.
  • Convert legacy PLC projects to new platforms and validate for accuracy.
  • Execute and support design, test, manufacture and commissioning of low and medium voltage switchgear controls retrofits for systems that control multiple generators which parallel to one or more utility sources.
  • Provide direction to CAD designers to create wiring and assembly drawings for generator paralleling controls.
  • Utilize templates or modify PLC programs for control of generator paralleling switchgear.
  • Modify template HMI programs to coincide with project-specific PLC programs.
  • Provide Engineering/Technical support to AES (Advanced Electrical Services) Sales Group.
  • Submit daily project reports and expenses in a timely manner.
  • Assist the Product Support Center help desk to resolve customer issues that cannot be handled locally.
  • As needed, assists or trains technicians, and both internal and external customers, in preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of equipment under contract with Caterpillar Switchgear.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience in dealing with multiple disciplines such as contractors, consultants, engineers, end users, etc.

  • Working knowledge of the following:- Installation, troubleshooting, and design of switchgear, ATS, and generator systems.

    • Reading schematics and blueprints for power control and automation at a Power Systems level
    • Installation, troubleshooting, design and programming of automated control systems using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI’s), PC controls, and distributed processing.

Education and Work Experience:

We're looking for an Inventory Analyst to meet operational needs and customer demand, using data-driven insights to optimize inventory levels, reduce costs, and improve supply chain efficiency. With limited supervision, this position carries out various logistics and purchasing support tasks, including logistics planning, materials planning, material analysis, and other assigned responsibilities.
**What You Will Do**
+ Reconcile inventory discrepancies including on-hand overages/shortages, supplier variances, operational returns, receipt issues, shipment errors, and accurately post receipts and generate MTS (or equivalent materials system) tags for all inbound materials.
+ Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with cross functional team and team members.
+ Plan for supplier material deliveries, track information on suppliers including replenishment schedules, and monitor packaging quantities and usage.
+ Prepare inventory reports and determine the quantity and order date for kanban materials needed to meet the master production schedule.
+ Initiate purchase or production requisitions as appropriate.

General Summary:

Responsible for acquiring new business opportunities. Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates the preparations and executions of projects while meeting cost, quality, equipment utilization and safety objectives.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Manages administrative aspects of contracts (change orders, rental equipment, timesheet coding, billing and expenses, collections, etc.) by working closely with administrative staff and accounting and communicating all financial details to appropriate parties.
  • Maintains sound union relationships with field employees and local business managers. Participates in joint labor management committees and apprenticeship subcommittees. Develop thorough understanding of labor agreements.
  • Completes job closeout process including resolution of "punch list" items, recording of "as-built drawings' to reflect all changes to originals, and distribution of all operating and maintenance manuals to customer.
  • Strengthen customer relationships through hosting and/or participating in company-supported events.
  • Attendance at annual divisional and departmental meetings and social functions is required.
  • Performs other duties/special projects as assigned. May serve on corporate and special division committees as required.
Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Minimum four years technical education in engineering field, construction management coursework or completion of apprenticeship in a respective discipline.
  • 5 - 10 years of prior experience with related construction industry projects. (Electric Power Distribution/Transmission and Substation)
  • Analytical and problem solving, strong interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.

JOB PROFILE
The Electric Power Generation (EPG) Technician position is responsible for installation, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and service of diesel powered standby electrical generation equipment. BASIC REQUIREMENTS
  • Power Generation Technology training or Power Production and Maintenance training through accredited technical schools or military experience preferred. High school diploma required.
  • 6+ months of previous hands-on electrical diagnostics and advanced troubleshooting experience working on 8.5kW - 2,500kW diesel powered generators. Candidates with limited electrical experience, but with strong engine experience will be considered.
  • Able to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends and on-call hours as required, and must be able to work independently in remote locations.
  • Must demonstrate professionalism, integrity, adaptability, and a strong customer service focus.
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency and self-initiative, and the personal drive to be successful.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Possess and maintain a current, valid state driver's license with a current DOT medical card as required for towing.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The EPG Technician will read and interpret technical instructions, safety manuals, service manuals, company policies and procedures. Works with electric and electronic schematics, wiring diagrams and ladder logic; and demonstrates an understanding of single phase and three phase circuit theory and AC/DC circuit theory as well as proficient in the use of test equipment. Electrical switchgear experience is helpful. Provides advanced troubleshooting and high-quality repair service on power generation, switch gear and uninterrupted power source (UPS) systems, responding to customer needs in a positive, safe, and timely manner, ensuring maximum value for work performed.

EPG Technicians have safety, customer satisfaction, and business responsibility within a branch region. As technical expert and primary customer support contact, they are responsible for communicating to provide an exceptional customer experience as they identify, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical generator systems and related engine mechanical systems.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for an ELECTRIC POWER GENERATOR (EPG) SERVICE TECHNICIAN to join our growing operations at Louisiana Cat.


YOU

The person in this role will be responsible for servicing and repairing power systems of all makes and models, performed in the shop and in the field.


SALARY POTENTIAL

$60,000 - $20,000 yearly range

The yearly range indicated is representative of the hourly rate, including typical overtime. This range is based on a technician’s experience, skills, education and training. For technicians, overtime is typically calculated on a daily basis after 8 hours worked.


YOUR CONTRIBUTION

  • You will diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on diesel and natural gas engines, generators, controls, automatic transfer switches, paralleling switchgear, and fuel supply systems.
  • You will be accountable for EPG (Electric Power Generator) technical instructions, safety and service manuals for Louisiana Cat.
  • You will be responsible for interpreting electric and electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and ladder logic.
  • You will create, track, and formalize work order documents on our Caterpillar customer service report software systems.
  • You will understand Caterpillar exchange parts process and financial cost analysis of repairs for our customers.
  • You will be responsible for promoting the Louisiana Cat brand by maintaining a standard of excellence in all that you do.
