General Summary :

Responsible for estimating assigned "Electric Power" projects (e.g. Electrical Transmission, Distribution and Substation Projects) and the upkeep of estimating systems.

Principal Accountabilities :

• Develops a bid schedule in consultation with Department Head. Responsible for procuring and returning plans for projects to estimate.
• Prepares project estimates in a timely manner by engaging in detailed and accurate plan take-off, and solicitation of appropriate material, equipment and sub-contractor pricing.
• Updates material pricing and labor rates on regular intervals to reflect recent changes.
• Responsible for maintaining the estimating system, including software.
• Assist with pricing change orders on large projects.
• Evaluates bid results to track pricing levels. Upkeeps project bid database for future reference.
• Evaluates completed job costs against estimated budgeted costs to aid in future estimating.
• Develops "rules of thumb" estimating techniques and criteria for budget estimating.
• Other general tasks at the request of the department head.
• Attendance at departmental meetings as required.

• Minimum of two years technical education in the engineering field, construction management field, completion of an apprenticeship in a respective discipline, or other relevant experience. Prior estimating experience in the electric power industry preferred.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• General computer skills required with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Comfortable with a wide range of project budgets and estimating. For example, estimating unit price projects, T&M projects, and lump sum projects
• Works in a normal office environment with some travel required to attend pre-bid meetings and site visits in preparation of developing a complete project estimate. When in the office, the role regularly works from a sitting or standing position with a computer. Repetitive typing and computer use required. Regular bending, twisting, and light lifting are common, and the ability to climb up and down ladders and steps on site is required with or without reasonable accommodation.

Role Definition

A shop test technician is responsible for the execution of electrical functionality tests of ISO switchgear products. Job duties include: verification of functionality of products through standard test procedures, custom procedures with engineering assistance, organizing corrections with assembly team members, documentation of quality performance, downloading software associated with the product.

What You Will Do

• Safely perform all testing procedures on switchgear and other ISO-certified products.

• Conduct functionality tests to ensure proper operation of switchgear and related equipment.

• Maintain accurate quality control records to identify trends and support corrective actions.

• Perform quality checks (QC) on switchgear systems.

• Complete all required documentation, including test designs, material transfers, and punch lists.

• Power up switchgear systems (24-125 VDC and 120-600 VAC), verify communication systems, operate manual breakers, download templates and engineering test codes, perform PLC I/O checks, and install HMI programs. Troubleshoot any issues across these systems.

• Successfully complete General Switchgear Training.

• Support final preparation and readiness of switchgear for delivery.

• Collaborate with engineering teams during final testing phases.

• Ensure all quality standards and expectations are consistently met.

• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

What You Will Have

• Associate's degree in electrical technology or equivalent hands-on experience.

• Foundational knowledge of AC/DC electrical principles.

• Basic understanding of ladder logic and relay logic systems.

• Familiarity with PLC's and electrical troubleshooting techniques.

• Experience working with low and medium voltage electrical components (480 - 15kV).

• Demonstrated troubleshooting skills, preferably in electrical systems.

• Working knowledge of Paralleling Switchgear and three-phase power systems.

• Proficient in using electrical test equipment such as multimeters, test carts, and power supplies.

• Basic computer literacy and ability to navigate technical software.
