We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineering (EE) Manager to join our Electrical Technologies team located in Rancho Bernardo. We are looking for someone with drive, talent, and experience in Electrical Design who also thrives in a fast-paced, Research and Development (R&D) environment. The successful candidate will report to the Sr. Manager of High-Speed Digital and, alongside high-caliber engineering management staff, will be engaged in the engineering support and new development of electrical power systems for High Energy Laser (HEL) systems, high-power motor drives, power conditioning systems, advanced aerospace and electro-optic sensors, space-based optical communications, nuclear thermal propulsion, cutting-edge technology ventures into Defense and "NewSpace," and a variety of disruptive technologies in the expanding product portfolio of GA-EMS.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**
+ Responsible for the planning, managing and technical performance of an engineering unit through all phases of assigned project(s) from inception through completion.
+ Participate with technical staff, program managers and executive management to develop and implement current, annual and long-term technical, schedule, quality, business and financial objectives for the unit.
+ Work with GA-EMS Engineering staff in the concept development and prototype design, integration, and test of power systems, controls, and electronics for all product lines and technology areas. These encompass high-power motor drives, power conditioning systems, pulsed power systems, battery systems, high energy laser systems, space systems, advanced sensors, laser communications, instrumentation, and data acquisition.
+ Participate in and coordinate the establishment of design concepts, criteria, and engineering efforts for product research, development, testing, and integration.
+ Interact internally with engineering team and/or with suppliers, vendors or customers to share information for problem resolution.
+ May act as primary contact for engineering activities.
+ May participate in the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract(s).
+ Ensure technical leadership and excellence is maintained by participating in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of the required management, professional, and technical talent.
+ Identify engineering issues and provide leadership in developing solutions such as re-allocation of resources or modifying specifications.
+ May participate in the development of new business opportunities and expansion of existing business opportunities.
+ Generate electrical architecture solutions for new project needs, perform electrical engineering analyses for systems and circuits, document findings, communicate results to engineering and program management staff, give technical presentations, and manage technical effort schedules.
+ Formulate plans, typically long-term, and coordinate solutions development and deployment including documentation, reporting, publishing, and making technical and other presentations to ensure viability of the solutions in an evolving environment.
+ Plan for future applications of solutions based on new developments in engineering technology.
+ Participate in or may lead the development of new or expansion of existing business opportunities.
+ Communicate with colleagues and management throughout solution development and deployment cycles.
+ Represent the company as a prime technical contact on contracts and/or projects and interact with senior external personnel on technical matters requiring coordination between the organizations.
+ Perform other duties as assigned or required.

**Job Qualifications:**
+ Typically requires a bachelor's, master's or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as nine (9) or more years of progressively complex engineering experience with at least three (3) of those years having management responsibilities. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.

Position Summary

The Director of Engineering Design will act as the primary liaison between Engineering, Execution, and Operations stakeholders. This individual will lead the coordination of Engineering deliverables to ensure timely delivery thus supporting bidding and buyout per project schedules. The key responsibility of this position is to monitor interdisciplinary dependencies and resolve all issues between CBI, the Engineering firm, and the General Contractor. The Director must be a forward thinker, pragmatic, and flexible to drive resolution to complex problems. This individual needs to be a great facilitator and connect the appropriate individuals to overcome obstacles.

The Director will also be the champion and owner of the Early Design Management program. CBI Engineering is working to increase customer satisfaction by engaging our customer (brewery operations) early in the process. We seek to review our designs in the early phases, giving the customer an opportunity to give feedback and influence the design to meet their long-term operational needs. This position would capture all feedback and manage the Request for Design Change process. This role will help evolve the program, its deliverables, process, and program structure. This role will report to the Sr. Director of Engineering Design.

This person will also be responsible for the Architectural, Civil, and Design Technology disciplines within the Engineering department. They will work across all disciplines to ensure we document, deliver, and maintain a library of current design standards and specifications inclusive of our desired materials, means, and methods of construction. This director and their team will ensure owner representation and feedback gets incorporated into Requests for Information (RFIs) and substitution requests. The director will also work closely with the budget and estimating departments to ensure accurate forecasting and budget adherence.

Responsibilities

  • Broad ownership of engineering coordination (Brewing, Packaging, Utilities, Warehouse and Logistics, Architectural, Civil, Structural, Design Technology, Automation, and Digitalization)
  • Direct Leadership of Architectural, Civil, & Design Technology disciplines
  • Annual design spend greater than $50M
  • Resolve project engineering issues between CBI, Engineering and General Contracting that are delaying progress
  • Remove roadblocks and make decisions related to the timely flow of information between all stakeholders
  • Coordinate and oversee the delivery of design releases in coordination with the sourcing calendar for capital projects
  • Implement solutions for any deviation from the sourcing calendar
  • Engage appropriate individual(s) that can resolve schedule impacting issues

  • Ensure designs and construction are executed following corporate safety standards
  • Review and comment on engineering deliverables for constructability at all levels of detail

  • Identify standard process gaps and create defined workflows. Ensure all processes are communicated to all stakeholders and followed.
  • Support the evolution and optimization of CBIs Early Design Management Program
  • Enhance and standardize the Request for Design Change process and approval flow

Minimum Qualifications

The salary range for this role is:

As an Engineering Design Technician, you will apply skills in Building Information Modeling (BIM), architectural modeling, and multi-disciplinary design coordination to help deliver complex seaport and airport projects.

  • You'll prepare, maintain, and coordinate 2D drawings and 3D models that integrate architectural, structural, civil, and MEP systems - supporting design and construction teams from concept to as-builts.
  • You will perform as the technical specialist to interpret, organize, draft, execute and set up architectural drawings and multi-disciplinary BIM modeling workflows, including 3D/4D modeling, clash detection, and constructability reviews.
  • You will administer skills, knowledge, and practices of both Port of Seattle CAD/BIM Standards and industry-required standards such as NCS, ISO 19650 and NBIMS.
  • You will assist Project Engineers with site inspections.
  • You will recognize and understand safety requirements while performing inspections and produce accurate as-built documents.
  • You will develop and maintain accurate, coordinated architectural and multi-disciplinary models, integrate and ensure seamless data exchange between consultants, contractors, and in-house models to ensure alignment and compliance.
  • You will support design and construction coordination meetings by providing model-based insights to resolve conflicts before construction.
  • You will assess and solve software problems and perform as Lead Design Technician on selected projects, guiding BIM execution plans.
  • You will coordinate, evaluate and incorporate information from outside consultants and ensure compliance with Port of Seattle CAD/BIM Standards and alignment with overall project delivery goals.

  • Technically Skilled - You have knowledge of engineering software applications such as Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Navisworks. You also have proficiency with a variety of computer programs including Autodesk Construction Cloud, Office 365, Microsoft Teams, Bluebeam and Adobe.
What else you need to know:
  • Work Schedule - Your normal work schedule will be Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work during emergencies.
  • Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management's discretion.
  • Washington State Residency Requirement - Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
  • Overtime Eligible - You are eligible for overtime pay in this role.
  • Security Requirements - As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Primary Purpose

Develops designs, layouts, construction drawings, and a bill of material for relatively complex systems and on a number of smaller projects or portions of a larger project for the installation/removal/modification of utility infrastructure on Exelon's electric generation, transmission, distribution, gas and telecommunication facilities/systems. Performs field engineering and provides designs for both internal and external customers. May coordinate, track and monitor the electrical requirements of New Business projects to meet customer need dates. Interprets and applies engineering standards and memos. Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Primary Duties

  • Develops designs, layouts, construction drawings, and a bill of material for relatively complex systems and on a number of smaller projects or portions of a larger project for the installation/removal/modification of utility infrastructure on Exelon's electric generation, transmission, distribution, gas and telecommunication facilities/systems. This may include activities associated with customer contact, scheduling, engineering and construction of New Business installations, removals and relocations.

  • Interprets and applies engineering standards and memos.

  • Assists with technical consultation, plan developments and recommendations for customer and company systems and processes; (e.g. Verify and validate studies, blueprints, or designs against accepted engineering principles and practices)

  • Evaluates effectiveness of current design processes. Participates on teams; (e.g. Design high voltage transmission and distribution circuits, meeting all engineering standards and criteria)

Job Scope

  • Develops construction drawings and material requirements for relatively complex systems associated with utility infrastructure installation, removal or modification. Works independently under the direction of a lead engineer.

  • May respond to customer needs for service by evaluating standard versus required facilities in order to develop charges for customers that have financial and operational impact.

  • Responsible for financial requirements associated with projects that support the Asset Investment Committee (AIC) / Project Review Committee (PRC) process.

  • Applies technical knowledge to help promote a safe work environment and to enhance customer satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in a technical field and 0-3 years of technical experience, an associate's degree in a technical field and 2 - 5 years of relevant technical experience, or 5-7 years of technical experience or equivalent education if non-degreed or a non-technical or engineering degree.

  • Successful completion of the Technician Occupations Selection Systems (TECH) test. (A bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university exempts the TECH Test requirement.)

  • Ability to analyze and interpret electrical and mechanical systems.

  • Knowledge and ability to apply problem-solving approaches.

  • Knowledge of construction, operations or engineering principles and practices.

  • Good knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform routine assignments for a specific discipline installation, or service.

  • Proficient Computer Drawing and Computer Assisted Design skills.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant education/experience is knowledge and/or skills that may be acquired through job experiences or education programs similar to a formal technical degree program. Relevant experience includes experience in a military role (transmission, distribution, gas, power systems, etc.), project management, journey-level electrician or gas technician, field operations, or other utility related experience, as deemed relevant to the role. Relevant educational experience includes company sponsored training programs (ex. PowerUp Academy) or other educational programs, as deemed relevant to the role. The equivalent relevant education / experience requirement is in addition to the position's minimum experience requirements.
