Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer
As an Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer, you will perform advanced engineering techniques, makes decisions on engineering problems and methods, and interfaces with the client to define project scope. Required to perform electrical engineering and design assignments associated with production, maintenance, process, capital projects, R&D, and power distribution involving the application of established electrical technology and principles, including performing all electrical calculations, and often requiring coordination with other engineering design, and cross-functional competencies to provide economical and expedient task implementation. The assignment will include participation in all electrical functions associated with projects including assistance with front end loading, production design, electrical construction management, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities. Provides technical guidance to designers and less experienced engineers and is consulted extensively by the associates and others with a high degree of reliance placed on scientific interpretations and advice. Job role is responsible for a measurable asset including but not limited to forecasting & budget.

Responsibilities
+ Functions as a project lead for a small project or an area lead for larger projects.
+ Scope definition from receipt of basic data to Issue for Design process deliverables
+ Interface with the clients' cross functional teams to define all operating requirements.
+ Responsible for study, design, specification, and services related to electrical systems including power generation, power systems performance and control, cabling and wiring, lighting, motor control centers, communication systems, cathodic protection, grounding, lightning protection, heat tracing, etc.
+ Responsibility for assessing the quality, robustness, and capability of newly designed and installed Capital Projects.
+ Industrial electrical power distribution ranging from high voltage (greater than 35kV), medium voltage (1kV through 35kV) through low voltage (120V through 1kV)
+ Electrical power distribution equipment such as generators, substations, switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, distribution panels
+ Electrical utilization equipment such as motors (AC and DC), controllers, electrical process equipment
+ Electrical drawing knowledge (reading and generation via MicroStation V8):
+ Single Line Diagrams
+ Three Line Diagrams
+ Schematic Diagrams
+ Wiring Diagrams
+ Physical Drawings
+ Involved in discussions around the control of the process. Frequently pulls in additional technical resources for making decisions about the project viability and resolve any safety concerns or hazards.
+ Provides engineering, Checkout and Qualification for the Capital Project process control systems, such as distributive control systems and components, instrumentation technology, and programmable logic controllers.
+ Overall responsibility for design, specification, selection, and services relating to instrumentation and control systems including basic process control systems, safety systems, control panels, analyzer systems, field instrumentation, valves, etc.
+ May self-perform or lead other engineers to complete project scope and provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers. On some occasions, will also plan, schedule, and conduct work requiring independent judgment and adaptation of engineering techniques.
+ Participation in Process Hazard Analysis for project-related work.
+ Define the process design basis for other disciplines, specifically Electrical Systems, conduit sizing, and Instrumentation and interface with these groups throughout detailed design. Leading multidisciplinary small project teams across several different businesses and site infrastructure.
+ Develop project estimates, scopes, and schedule. May lead estimate reviews.
+ Work with Construction Manager during FEL as well as to oversee project execution in the field.
+ Forecasting and project cost tracking, monthly.
+ Manage scope change technically and commercially.
Requirements
+ Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or Control Systems
+ Must have a good understanding and knowledge of industry codes and standards (NFPA 70E/NEC, OSHA, IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, API, and ASI.
+ 8+ years of qualified related experience
+ Experience in the chemical, refining, or biofuels industry required.
+ Experience with P&ID Development, equipment sizing, electrical calculations, and instrumentation. Demonstrated leadership of process design on capital projects, including responsibility for budget, schedule, and change management.
+ Professional Engineering (P.E.) license preferred but not required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Work is located at a chemical plant and requires exposure to ambient temperature extremes
· Work may require using and wearing personal protective equipment such as fire-retardant clothing, hearing and eye protection, hard hat and steel-toed boots
· Day-to-day physical requirements involve standard office activities including sitting/standing for extended periods of time, attending meetings, use of keyboard and mouse repetitively, lifting and carrying less than 20 lbs frequently, etc
· Work requires moderate physical exertion including walking to operating areas and walking up stairs
· Assignments may require conducting plant walkdowns and wearing chemical plant or refinery PPE to include an H2S monitor, escape respirator, and FP coveralls.

The Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for leveraging solutions and resources to solve common engineering challenges, and for developing engineering solutions to support our manufacturing plant site. Position Summary : The Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, compliance, enhancement, and expansion of the site’s electrical and instrumentation systems.
This role provides technical leadership and oversight in the development, standardization, procurement, construction, and commissioning of electrical and instrumentation components and systems. The engineer will serve as a key technical authority while also overseeing contractor and internal team execution, ensuring alignment with corporate standards, safety regulations, and site-specific requirements.
This position includes supervisory responsibilities and include direct mentorship and guidance of junior engineers and technicians involved in electrical and instrumentation tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Safety Leadership
- Champion a safety-first culture in all activities involving electrical and instrumentation systems. Ensure that safety is never compromised and that all personnel—employees and contractors—adhere strictly to site safety standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct and support safety audits, job safety analyses, and safety observations; ensure all contractor and employee personnel receive appropriate training, especially in electrical safety and compliance.
- Lead or participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses, driving corrective actions to enhance site-wide safety performance.
- Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) teams and support continuous improvement in process safety practices.
2. Reliability and Compliance Oversight
- Lead the implementation of best practices for preventive and predictive maintenance (PM/PdM) of sensing, control, and electrical distribution equipment.
- Ensure that all maintenance activities comply with PSM, PSC, and MI standards and that reliability results are continuously evaluated against established criteria.
- Align the site's Electrical Mechanical Integrity (MI) procedures with Livent corporate requirements and all relevant codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA).
3. Engineering, Design, and Documentation
- Direct the engineering design, review, and specification of E&I systems for both reliability and compliance.
- Prepare detailed electrical and instrumentation design packages, and maintain critical Process Safety Information, such as CAD drawings and loop sheets.
- Develop and maintain standardized approaches for E&I equipment selection and installation.
4. Capital Project Execution and Commissioning
- Work closely with internal stakeholders and external contractors to ensure E&I design and construction meet site standards and long-term reliability goals.
- Lead thorough and systematic handovers from project execution to commissioning teams to ensure safe and seamless startup.
- Evaluate contractor capabilities, manage procurement through SAP, and ensure high-quality project delivery.
5. Supervisory and Team Leadership
- Provide direct leadership to E&I technicians, contractors, and front-line supervisors, ensuring all work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with technical requirements.
- Assign, monitor, and review the work of team members, ensuring alignment with project and maintenance objectives.
- Mentor and develop both internal staff and contractor teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and accountability.
6. Technical Expertise and Vendor Coordination
- Serve as the primary technical authority on all E&I matters for the site, providing expert troubleshooting and support to maintenance, operations, and engineering teams.
- Investigate and evaluate vendor products and services to ensure they meet site needs, safety expectations, and reliability standards.
- Other job duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college required - Electrical Engineering/Electrical Engineering Technology preferred.
- Minimum of six (6) years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience required - prior experience within a chemical manufacturing environment preferred.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- In-depth experience with transformers, MCC’s, variable speed motors, distribution systems from 4160 to 480 volts, and process control instrumentation is required.
- Experience with electrolysis systems such as rectifiers and bus bar distribution involving motion controls is a plus.

What Will You Be Doing?As an Electrical and Instrumentation Technician, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the electrical and instrumentation equipment at our production facility. Your responsibilities will include:
- Inspecting, testing, adjusting, calibrating, and repairing electric, electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic instruments and systems.
- Monitoring meters, indicators, and gauges to detect abnormal fluctuations.
- Maintaining a functional knowledge of operations software and hardware.
- Conducting preventative maintenance inspections of all control instrumentation.
- Troubleshooting electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical failures.
- Completing work order cycles and entering equipment history.
- Diagnosing existing or potential issues with plant electrical equipment.
- Performing cleaning, lubrication, calibration, and adjustments as needed.
- Laying out, installing, and placing electrical equipment into service.
- Maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
- Utilizing a multi-craft skill set to perform additional maintenance tasks as assigned.
