Electrical Testing Technician

We are looking for an experienced Testing Technician to perform electrical testing for design development, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) on completed production cables and heater systems, and support manufacturing activities. The ideal candidate should have experience in with AC and DC testing, cable sample preparation with medium voltage terminations. This candidate should possess a strong commitment to safety, especially in a manufacturing setting, and a proactive approach to promoting safety culture through PPE use are essential.

This position requires on-site presence.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) on cables and heater systems.
  • Perform routine and specialized electrical tests on mineral-insulated cable systems to evaluate performance and quality
  • Support other production-related tasks as required.
  • Assist with research and development efforts to enhance cable performance, applying technical knowledge to innovative projects.
  • Manage and maintain the inventory of testing materials.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and industry regulations
  • Maintain comprehensive records of test procedures, calibrations, and maintenance activities.

Summary Description

Under the direction of the Operations Manager this person will perform various advanced tests of electrical power equipment and perform various service tasks to the same equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Adheres to testing and service protocols, including Tri-M procedures, forms, and check sheets, as well as customer requirements, ANSI/IEEE, NETA procedures and OEM requirements.
  • Understands and follows proper safety and temporary grounding procedures.
  • Reads and interprets electrical distribution system drawings, including single lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, section and plans views.
  • Operates hipot, power factor, TTR, CT, primary and secondary injection, relay test equipment and all test sets required at the Testing Tech 1 level.
  • Performs initial interpretation of all test results, and consults with the testing foreperson and/or supervisor and/or manager for final evaluation.
  • Performs service tasks related to electrical power equipment, including repair, replacement, refurbishment, and upgrade.
  • Troubleshoots electrical power equipment problems and performance issues using appropriate techniques and equipment.
  • Able to plan out a job without being told what to do and lead assigned projects.
  • Ensures compliance with the Electric Code (NEC) and Electric Safety Code (NESC) High voltage Electrical safety.

Skills/Educational Requirements:

Job Description

We're seeking an experienced Electrical Testing Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will perform acceptance and maintenance testing on low and medium-voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, protective relays, automatic transfer switches, motor control centers, ground systems, etc. This position will require the ability to operate various testing tools and equipment, as well as read and interpret electrical control schematics and diagrams. The Electrical Testing Technician will also be responsible for documenting services by maintaining records and writing technical reports detailing field work performed.

Depending on the level/experience you come in with, this position can pay from $35/hour - $75/hour.

  • Perform extensive testing, problem identification, and troubleshooting
  • Inspect and service transformers, switchgear, and relays
  • Evaluate the operating condition of equipment
  • Generate detailed reports Communicate effectively with team members and clients
Qualifications:
