**GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
+ Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
+ Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
+ Use a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps.
+ Repair and install electrical devices such as receptacles, light fixtures, light switches, lighting ballast, motors, etc.
+ Assists in keeping building common and electrical spaces in a neat, orderly and safe condition.
+ Accomplishes work in accordance with blueprints and specifications, and national and local codes. Updates as-built drawings as necessary, according to department policies.
+ Attend Tool Box safety meetings and demonstrate safety competency in addition to any other recommended topics such as harassment prevention, ethics, etc.
+ Obtain an OSHA 10 General Industry Safety and Health standards certification.
+ Extended hours or weekend overtime may be available.
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required, depending on position.
+ High School diploma or GED required.
+ Knowledge of the electrical construction industry and the National Electrical Code and design are desirable but not necessary.
+ Valid Driver's License.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Electricians troubleshoot and perform specialized maintenance on equipment including insulation, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, communication, lighting, door, propulsion, and automatic train control and air brake systems.
  • Install, service and repair electrical panels, wiring, lighting, and fixtures as well as specialized electrical equipment and machinery.
  • Replace defective air filters, solid-state control boards, Freon, relays and pressure switches in HVAC system.
  • Locate defective motor components using proper test equipment (meters).
  • Perform safety control tests on doors, Cab Signal System, and braking systems.
  • Replace defective pressure switches and micros switches in air brake system.
  • Maintain and repair any electrical components on gear pullers, presses, and crane motors.
  • Remove defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools.
  • Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures following routine and all standards of performance. Maintain a safe working environment.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • Pass NJ Transit’s Electrician Aptitude Test 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of OHMS laws, instrumentation, digital circuits, communication, computers
  • Demonstrate experience with control valves, transmitters, and PLC
  • Understand high voltage systems, grounding systems, fuses, and transformer maintenance
  • Troubleshoot and repair basic electrical tools such as multi-meter, voltage tester, etc.
  • Read electrical circuit diagrams and electrical blueprints
  • Successfully pass the pre-screening process including drug test, physical, and criminal, employer, and driving background checks.
  • High School Diploma or GED

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Programming, PLCs, VFDs, industrial Ethernet, digital and 4-20ma controls along with a broad knowledge of industrial electrical systems and power distribution
  • Installation, repair, and troubleshooting of commercial or industrial electrical wiring
  • The military performing heavy-duty repair experience (airplanes, ships, steel mills, etc . )
  • Trade school, electrical, diesel-mechanical maintenance, and/or technical experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift up to 70 pounds occasionally
  • Stoop, bend, crawl, balance, climb, kneel
  • Be exposed to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basis

Principal Accountabilities

  • Performs work assigned by supervisor
  • Identify follow-up work and parts required
  • Assist in development and implementation of new systems
  • Complete, Sign and return Work Order to Maintenance Supervisor complete with; Work Description, Symptoms, As Found, As Left, Start / Finish time, and
  • Labor Hours and Note Deficiencies, Delays, any Job Plan Feedback
  • Help promote and communicate Maintenance and Reliability to the Organization
  • Other duties include housekeeping, safety training, and meetings 

Required Qualifications

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • 2 years industrial maintenance experience
  • Excellent communication skills (English written, verbal, listening) Ensure compliance with all local codes, regulations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electronic Engineering or significant experience in PLC and control system troubleshooting
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Troubleshoot limit switches, photo eye and proximity switches
  • Proficient in reading ladder diagrams and be able to troubleshoot PLC machines without the aid of a computer
  • Trouble shoot, repair and replace faulty electrical components through the use of hand tools and electrical test equipment
  • Measure, cut and bend conduit such as rigid EMT, PVC, and IMC utilizing hand tools and benders
  • Be able to Set up and troubleshoot drives, showing understanding and ability to change settings
  • Troubleshoot PLC on line
  • Understand the Hydraulic, pneumatic and vacuum system concepts
  • Experience with Microsoft Office

Principal Accountabilities 

  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues independently
  • Apply strong problem-solving and programming troubleshooting skills, preferably with Allen-Bradley
  • Ensure reliability of manufacturing processes and compliance with standards
  • Perform preventative and annual maintenance on equipment
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment
  • Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and control schematics
  • Follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Identify, plan, and execute follow-up maintenance work
  • Prepare and maintain safe, organized work environments
  • Respond to unplanned maintenance needs as directed
  • Accurately complete and document work orders and maintenance records
  • Communicate maintenance updates through written pass-downs
  • Maintain and troubleshoot electronic controls and instrumentation
  • Use diagnostic tools (e.g., oscilloscope, VOM) to test and repair systems


Required Qualifications 

  • Electrical/Maintenance Journeyman License in the state of Michigan
  • 3 years manufacturing maintenance experience
  • Basic programming and advanced troubleshooting skills, preferably with Allen-Bradley
  • High School or GED Equivalent
  • Be able to troubleshoot PLCs and Ladder logic
  • Be willing to be a part of the Hazmat team
  • Strong electrical & mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to read & interpret blueprints or other forms of engineering drawings
  • Ability to read & interpret detail blueprints, P&IDs, single-lines, and wiring schematics
  • Ability to work weekend and off shift hours as needed


Preferred Qualifications

  • Computer literacy and willingness to learn SAP/PPE systems
  • Allen-Bradley programming and troubleshooting experience
  • Maintenance experience in a food processing environment
  • Proficient with test/calibration tools (RTD calibrators, multimeters, etc.)
  • Ability to troubleshoot 480 VAC 3-phase, 120 VAC, and 24VDC circuits
