The Supervisor of Lighting & Electrics will serve as a primary point of contact for lighting and power installation and equipment coordination throughout various seasonal events. Using provided documentation and plans, this position will be responsible for facilitating staging and movement of equipment, tracking execution on site, and recording installation progress through communication with other departments and trades.
The Universal Studios Hollywood Entertainment Lighting & Electrics team serves as the primary lighting project management and design group for all Entertainment projects. This team supports and interfaces with other Entertainment groups, including Creative, Production Design, Technical Design, Special Effects, Audio & Video, Show Control, and more to ensure successful creative and technical execution of all lighting and show power elements throughout the year. It is the overall goal of this team to develop and create both creative and technical designs and processes throughout show lighting development and execution that leave a lasting impression on our guests and team members.
The Supervisor of Lighting & Electrics will focus on specific projects throughout the year and may be assigned a variety of types of projects based on department needs. This includes, but is not limited to seasonal events, special events, infrastructure improvement projects, and research and development projects. The level of involvement in these projects varies on the magnitude of the project assigned. For some projects, an individual in this position may serve as an assistant to other Lighting & Electrics team members, or this individual may drive some projects independently.
In this role, in addition to the above, the Supervisor of Lighting & Electrics will -
+ Support the design development, production, operation, strike, and closeout of all show lighting and show power elements, including being able to communicate design intent to other groups.
+ Will be responsible for pulling or directing the pulling and prep of equipment from the Entertainment warehouse based on provided gear lists. May also be responsible for generating own gear lists on projects assigned.
+ Ensure all equipment is in good condition and working order before sending it to site. Can perform basic troubleshooting on lighting and electrical equipment as assigned. Flags equipment for repair or warranty service.
+ Facilitate on-site logistics by submitting requests and managing on-site space in relation to their covered areas. Coordinates lift orders and call offs as needed.
+ Generates equipment asset reports, loss reports, and schedules for additional labor needed to assist with the above tasks.
+ Coordinate the selection and hand off of practical lighting fixtures.
+ Work with project management to establish and maintain budget and schedule, including providing requested financial information in a timely fashion for approval.
+ Generate, collect, and execute any show lighting notes as required by covered area.
+ Ensure all teams are working in a safe and efficient manner.
+ Ability to understand and enforce department policies, procedures, and standards.

+ Understands the concepts of lighting design practices, including the properties and application of light as a tool to serve the overall creative and storytelling process.
+ Familiarity with lighting and show power distribution systems, including both facility wide and temporary/touring-based systems.
+ Ability to read and properly interpret a variety of types of drawings, including engineering documentation, code plans, and architectural plans.
+ Proficiency in programs including AutoCAD and Vectorworks.

Desired Qualifications
+ Proficiency in Lightwright or generating required lighting documentation in Vectorworks.
+ Understanding of generator powered or high voltage step down distribution systems.
+ Has a basic understanding of low-voltage LED lighting and power/dimming systems.
+ BA in theatre, architecture, design or similar field, or a minimum of 2 years in a theatrical, themed entertainment, touring, or similar environment applying the practices of lighting design or master electrician work, or lighting shop or warehouse work.

**General Summary**
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Electrical Engineering or senior staff, the Electrical Engineer - Power Systems will specialize in performing and documenting power system studies, including short circuit analysis, protective device coordination, and arc flash hazard studies. The engineer will provide detailed engineering analysis for industrial, commercial, educational, governmental, and healthcare facilities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. This role requires proficiency in power system modeling software, field data collection, and collaboration with project teams to deliver high-quality, reliable electrical engineering solutions.
**Essential Job Functions:**
+ Perform short circuit analysis to evaluate fault currents and ensure proper short-circuit current ratings of electrical equipment.
+ Conduct overcurrent protection device coordination studies to determine overcurrent protective device settings for selective tripping and ensure system reliability.
+ Evaluate systems for selective coordination where required per NFPA 70 and recommend solutions to comply with NFPA 70.
+ Perform comprehensive arc flash hazard analysis per IEEE 1584 and NFPA 70E to determine the arc flash boundaries, incident energy, and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
+ Evaluate and recommend arc flash mitigation strategies to reduce incident energy levels.
+ Create arc flash labels in accordance with NFPA 70E and client standards.
+ Conduct site visits to apply arc flash labels.
+ Ensure proper application of arc flash labels when installed by the contractor.
+ Conduct motor-starting studies to assess the impact of starting large motors on electrical power systems.
+ Utilize power system software tools such as SKM, ETAP, or EasyPower for power systems modeling and analysis.
+ Maintain organized project file containing project calculations, schedules, correspondence, appropriate reference materials, etc.
+ Conduct site visits to gather field data and verify existing conditions to support accurate study results.
+ Collaborate with project teams, including the Project Manager, Electrical Engineer, and client, to define project scope, budget, and design approach.
+ Adhere to project quality, budget, and schedule.
+ Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team technical development
+ Edit and draft project specifications.
+ Perform related duties as assigned.
**Employment Qualifications:**
**Education:**
+ Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
+ Professional Engineer's License is required
**Experience:**
+ 10+ years related and progressively more responsible experience in electrical engineering field.
+ 5+ years experience performing short-circuit analysis, protective device coordination and arc flash hazard analysis studies.
