Required
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Must be certified in both CPR and the use of an AED. Certifications must be from NCOEMS, AHA, or American Red Cross.

The Construction & Maintenance Department is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and operation of the Company's natural gas distribution system.
We are looking for a Locator/ First Responder III to join our team!
Important Note: This role is considered safety sensitive, and as such, you may be required to undergo various background screenings. This may include but is not limited to a driving record abstract, criminal check, a company sponsored medical and drug testing.
This position reports to our North Durham Operations located in Durham, North Carolina.
What You Will Do:
performs location of natural gas lines and facilities
completes natural gas emergency response procedures and leak investigation/detection
participates in repairs to damaged gas service lines and other third-party damage using self-contained breathing apparatus equipment
performs damage prevention outreach to increase awareness of 811 and safe digging practices
installs leak repair clamps
repairs tracer wire
completes a variety of paperwork in writing and electronic work queues
safely drives a company vehicle
maintains the vehicle inventory
Operator Qualifications involve written guidelines and requirements natural gas employees must follow to ensure the safe and responsible operation of natural gas pipelines. Required, annual Operator Qualification testing involves both written and hands-on components to ensure those who perform covered, safety-sensitive tasks on the natural gas system are trained, knowledgeable, and qualified.
Who You Are:
0 -12 months locating experience.
Completed high school or equivalent (i.e. GED)
Possess a valid driver's license with a safe driving history.
Possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (strongly preferred) OR able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License within 6 months of employment.
Experience with common hand and power tools.
Ability to don and be annually fit tested for self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) equipment.
Ability to understand and follow safety and environmental policies, procedures, and protocols.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills for positive customer and contractor interactions is critical.
Basic computer and internet navigation skills are key.
Strong time management and organizational skills.
Ability to perform extensive walking, sometimes on uneven terrain.
Ability to adhere to safe working and defensive driving procedures.
Ability to work independently and as a team member within a diverse team.
Availability for overtime, as needed.
Availability for natural gas emergency response during the workday, as well as in the evenings and some weekends, when on-call.
Must be willing and able to meet a 45-minute emergency response time from the geographical center of the Durham area. Emergency response time is a critical measure for the Company and candidates are required to consistently meet this requirement, including when on-call.
