Job Summary:
The Employment Specialist (ES) provides vocational assessment, employment preparations, job development, and job placement services. The Employment Specialist participates in activities to educate, recruit and support clients and employers. The Employment Specialist serves as an employment liaison between clients, employers, and community partners. The Employment Specialist assists the client by providing a variety of supportive and employment-related services, some of which may include mentoring, coaching, transportation or other services. The Employment Specialist supports program adherence to the DMH and/or DOR contract.
The Employment Specialist (ES) needs to be a self-starter and able to work independently. The ES needs to demonstrate flexibility and excellent organizational skills. The ES needs to be able to operate from a strengths-based perspective.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) preferred in psychology, social work, Sociology or related field, together with at least six (6) months related client care or employment service experience.
- Or Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in non-related field, together with at least one (1) year related client care or employment service experience.
- Or less than a college degree and two (2) years related client care or employment service experience.
- Bilingual Spanish preferred (verbal skillset only).
- Valid California driver's license; current automobile insurance; have and maintain a clean driving record acceptable to the organization's insurance company; have immediate access to his or her vehicle during work hours.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Employment Specialist will support STRIVE in all its programs. The Employment Specialist will possess the ability to create job opportunities in job markets consistent with the skills and abilities of the assigned client caseload. This role will work as a mediator between employers and job seekers to understand the interests and requirements of the job seekers and help them obtain job opportunities.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to help people identify any barriers to employment, enhance their strengths, and improve their job skills. This role will work with clients who need guidance with career development or assistance with functioning in a workplace.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with trainers to schedule and provide the job development introduction, mock interviews, and post mock interview sessions. Prepare students for interviews and make them aware of the employment services they will receive upon graduation.
- Obtain documentation and verbal insight from trainers as to graduates' aptitudes, abilities, and desires.
- Business Development /Sales: Develop new business to secure employment and/or internship opportunities for graduates.
- Research and develop a thorough understanding of the targeted industries.
- Review open positions with partnering employers to attempt job placement of clients. If no appropriate positions are available, make cold calls and work with other job developers to ensure a placement as soon as possible.
- Develop and maintain successful relationships with employers to seek new career/internship opportunities for students and influence the retention and success of students.
- Pre-screen students for work-ready status in the areas of initial screenings, career assessments, educational testing and other appropriate assessments and place qualified students for employment opportunities with employers.
- Conduct participant follow-up after normal business hours as needed to maintain open dialogue with placed clients.
- Maintain an open line of communication with contacts at STRIVE placement sites, check on new placements, mediate problem situations when they arise, and secure feedback.
- Acquire verification of employment documentation for placed students.
- Document and track all records, including job requirements, job descriptions, job orders, students, company contacts and visits, services and placements, employer site checks, wage information, and miscellaneous activities in STRIVE cloud-based CRM
- Meet monthly career development placement goals and track related activities in STRIVE cloud-based CRM.
- Maintain and document activity, effectively case noting in real time utilizing CRM.
- High level of comfort using and interpreting data reports to guide program service delivery.
- Provide replacement services for students as needed.
- Provide coaching on effective job search techniques.
- Establish relationships with employer HR Dept to secure employer feedback and utilize the information to partner with STRIVE Training team/Instructor to ensure training is effectively supporting students.
- Complete other tasks as assigned or needed.

Essential Functions:
Intake/Assessment
- Conduct individual intake interviews of program candidates as assigned.
- Present on clients interviewed at intake disposition meetings; provide alternative referrals for persons unable to use the program’s services.
Vocational/Employment Services

Support 8-10 cases providing the services below:

Develop an Individual Work Plan (IWP) and a contract for services to be provided with each client served.

Co-facilitate job search preparation workshops for clients seeking employment

Work individually with clients in helping them prepare for and in assisting them in implementing their job search strategy.

Provide ongoing support and assistance to clients in the process of obtaining employment (including via outside referral, job development, entitlements counseling and advocacy).
Post-Employment Services
- Develop an employment support plan with clients who obtain employment to assist them in successfully maintaining and progressing in that employment.
- Provide follow-along services as contracted via job coaching, employment counseling, employment support groups, career counseling or advocacy with employers.
- Act as a Work Benefits Work Incentive Advisor (BWIA) to assist participant in learning how work affects benefits.
Documentation/Administrative
- Create and maintain case records for all clients on caseload – updating referral material as required, collecting relevant reports and evaluations.
- Attend bi-weekly staff meetings, case review meetings, and weekly intake disposition meetings facilitating communication with all other members of the service team.

- Discuss and report progress to Supported Employment Program Manager/Director, Special Needs Department in bi-weekly meetings.
- Maintain monthly contact with referring DVRS/DDD Counselor to update on clients progress via e-mail or phone.
- Maintain accurate and timely case files and documentation as mandated by New Jersey Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services and Division of Developmental Disabilities.
- Maintain documentation in compliance with JFCS requirements.
- Attend 12 hours of continuing education per year in Supported Employment training or other related topics, as required by governing agencies.
- Maintain 70% productivity rate.
- Provide minimum of 3 hours of contact with LTFA clients (when applicable).
- Perform other tasks as required within the Supported Employment Program.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in psychology, sociology, counseling, or related field and one year experience in social service field.
- Ability to interact with clients, families, employers, and professional staff in a compassionate and professional manner.
- Valid drivers license, registration, insurance, and good driving record.
- Flexible, self-motivated, and independent.
