The **Energy Management & Hydraulics Modeling** **Engineer** helps ensure reliable energy supply for the Company's pipeline, gathering and processing infrastructure. This role offers a diverse mix of responsibilities that span from detailed data analysis and operational support to strategic utility management and energy usage reduction through hydraulic modeling and demand response activities. **Responsibilities May Include:**
+ **Cost Optimization and Rate Analysis:** Identify opportunities to reduce costs and enhance electrical performance across operations by working with stakeholders. Regularly perform rate analyses-comparing billed utility data against tariffs or contracted rates, evaluating utility rates, researching tax exemptions, and seeking new savings opportunities. Address anomalies in usage or charges for timely resolution.
+ **Utility Account and Vendor Management:** Oversee the entire lifecycle of utility accounts by collaborating with bill-pay providers and field staff to activate, verify, and deactivate accounts, ensuring alignment with pipeline asset data. Maintain strong relationships with utility vendors, supporting field requests, managing agreements, and coordinating service changes or maintenance needs. Assist with budgeting, accruals, and ongoing reconciliation of utility billing to support Accounting & Finance teams and deliver financial accuracy.
+ **Energy Nominations and Resource Planning:** Manage monthly and daily nominations for electricity, natural gas, and DRA usage, coordinating with vendors, providing estimates, and responding to operational flow orders as needed.
+ **Reporting and Data Analysis:** Monitor and report on key operational and financial metrics-including pipeline cost per barrel mile, Station Cost per Barrel, and Terminal Cost per Barrel. Integrate utility outage information from vendor sources for accurate tracking. Oversee daily and quarterly usage data collection and reporting, including Drag Reducing Agent (DRA) management for EPA compliance.
+ **Hydraulic Modeling Optimization:** Develop and tune hydraulic models for steady-state and transient pipeline studies, apply pump and compressor expertise, and simulate scenarios to address business needs, drive operational efficiency, and support growth or system optimization initiatives.
**Required Qualifications:**

Our client has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a PM Energy Transmission Planning and Generation Modeling in their Energy Delivery practice . This position is remote in the United States and will require 10-15% travel. This role involves coordinating the development and evaluation of power system models such as power-flow, short-circuit, and dynamic models for both planning and operational purposes, ensuring they accurately reflect transmission topology and electrical characteristics. It includes performing and reviewing transmission system studies to assess performance and regulatory compliance (e.g. with NERC standards), while identifying mitigation strategies and providing advisory reports to clients. The position also supports NERC compliance efforts, evaluates transmission expansion opportunities to meet strategic goals, and manages planning processes for facility interconnections. The successful candidate has an engineering background with a related graduate degree and two to five years of professional experience working in the Building Performance field.
You will work in an interdisciplinary team environment focusing on High-Performance Building Consulting that is part of the Stantec's Building Specialty Services Group; primarily providing technical support to Stantec's building performance principles and senior consultants, and to implement and execute various Stantec building services that helps to meet the client's project expectation and goals. Knowledge and industry experience with different building systems and system components such as HVAC system, building management system, lighting control, hydronic pumping system, and etc., is required, however knowledge and experience in energy modeling, decarbonization, technical analysis is a plus. Your Key Responsibilities
- Working with Stantec's projects team leads to provide and execute high-performance building project objectives.

The Building Performance Engineer/Technician will play a critical role in supporting building owners and operators to enhance energy efficiency and reduce operational costs. This role will focus on providing on-site technical support, implementing energy-saving measures, and optimizing building systems to improve energy performance. The Engineer/Technician will collaborate closely with building management and engineering teams to identify opportunities for improvement, monitor system performance, and execute actionable solutions that lead to long-term energy savings.
The overall objective of this position is to coordinate and support the various tasks related to Existing Building Decarbonization. The Building Performance Engineer/Technician must have an in-depth understanding of the local HVAC industry.
Main responsibilities of the Building Performance Engineer/Technician include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor building systems, equipment, and operations to ensure optimal energy performance.
- Perform energy audits and building assessments to identify inefficiencies, operational changes, and areas of improvement.
- Gather and analyze data from building systems (BAS, lighting, water systems, etc.) to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for operational optimization.
- Coordinate implementation of operational changes, including BAS setpoint adjustments, lighting schedules, and equipment calibrations to reduce energy consumption and improve system performance.
- Work with building owners, operators, and facility management teams to prioritize and implement energy-saving solutions.
- Assist with troubleshooting building systems to identify faults and recommend cost-effective solutions to enhance energy performance.
- Ensure that energy-saving measures align with sustainability goals and comply with relevant energy codes, standards, and regulations such as DC BEPS.
- Provide detailed reports on energy consumption, system performance, optimization strategies, and recommended actions. Track progress and savings realized from implemented measures.
- Educate building staff on best practices for energy efficiency, including routine maintenance tasks that can help improve operational performance.
Requirements and Qualifications

The following qualifications are required:
- Bachelor’s degree in building systems, technology, energy management, mechanical engineering, or a related field plus 5 years of relevant experience in building performance, energy management or a similar technical role
or;
- Energy management associate degree with 10 years of relevant experience in building performance, energy management, or a similar technical role
- Working knowledge of HVAC systems, lighting controls, building automation systems, and energy management software.
- Familiarity with energy auditing procedures and verification practices for energy-saving measures.
- Strong technical knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, lighting, and water systems.
- Proficiency in data analysis and using energy monitoring software or building automation systems.
- Ability to identify and implement operational changes that improve energy efficiency.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication skills for working with building owners, managers, and on-site staff.
- Ability to work independently and in team environment.

+ Review ARCH and MEP drawings for existing buildings and systems
+ Lead in the development of energy saving strategies and the identification of energy efficiency measures for existing buildings using spreadsheets, and other energy software for calculations of energy/cost savings and return on investment.
+ Perform ASHRAE Level I & ASHRAE Level II Energy Audits in existing buildings
+ Experience with energy modeling tools is a plus
+ Provide consultation to clients or other engineers on topics such as climate control systems, energy modeling, data logging, building automation systems, lighting or daylighting design, sustainable design, and energy auditing
