Collaboration and a forward thinking approach are important to ensure we remain the supplier of choice for our customers. You will also be the face of Quest to your customers. Through listening to customer challenges, and building on your previous experiences, you will find creative approaches that will solve their most difficult engineering problems.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Develop and/or modify designs related to Aero-engine components by analyzing product specifications, performance requirements, and existing manufacturing capabilities
- Execute mechanical design projects of gas turbine components on Structures/Rotating parts (Frames, Shaft, Disk, Blisk, seals etc.) and/or Airfoils (Blade, Vanes, Nozzles etc.)
- Evaluate concepts of new designs/improvements, manufacturing methods, materials or processes and complete required documentation by applying engineering principles and Industry standards, and generating reports, procedures or change proposals
- Capture design & system requirements from the customer, and incorporate into the component design
- Support technical substantiation, contribute & present in technical and program reviews
- Develop components and modules keeping cost, performance, life, and system requirements in mind
- Design and Analysis of the component using CAE tools (NX, ANSYS Classic, ANSYS workbench)
- Direct interface with other internal/external engineering functions
- Apply technical principles, theories, and concepts to solve a wide range of challenging engineering problems
- Evaluate form, fit, function and life of the components relative to the certified configuration
- Evaluate non-conformances by reviewing, analyzing design criteria's and acceptability limits, recommend disposition procedures and maximizing producibility
Required Skills:

- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, work under time constraints, maintain composure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Like to work in a fast paced, creative environment

This position is for an Internal Propulsion Thermal Systems Engineering (IPTSE) Design and Release(D&R) Engineer on an Engine Powerpack Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for design and release activities associated with engine components on current and forward model applications.

+ Design, develop and release systems, subsystems, and components which meet program requirements and timing in accordance with Ford GPDS milestones.

About the Team:
The Propulsion team at Relativity is responsible for the successful development of the engines that will power the Terran R vehicle. We own their design from concept through to launch and reuse. Our team partners heavily with Manufacturing, Test, Launch, and Integration teams, striving to develop our engines in record time and to support Terran R's first launch in 2026. As part of this team, you will help build, test, and iterate on the full product lifecycle of our Aeon-R engine systems, seeing them mature and eventually bring Terran R into space.

You will be responsible for the overall layout, design, analysis, and build of hardware for our Aeon-R propulsion systems. You will work closely with other propulsion teams, the vehicle team, manufacturing/integration teams, and test teams to design, analyze, and optimize. Designs will be informed by both fluid and structural analytical and computational models. Engine assembly level layouts and trades will be weighed against weight, cost, lead time, and part count. The Design Systems Engineer is responsible for coordinating the technical aspects of base engine design to achieve customer requirements, functional objectives, and quality targets. Scope of work includes base engine design and testing.
Responsibilities of the Design Systems Engineer will be :
- Coordinate with Engineering, Family Manager, Purchasing and other support teams to develop resource development timelines, validation requirements including coordination of testing plans for efficient optimization of testing resources.
- Provide guidance to release engineers to develop design quality documents with appropriate oversight and approvals from technical experts.
- Provide guidance to release engineers to develop validation timelines and coordinate with Family Manager and Test teams as appropriate.
- Attend and participate in Technical Review sessions. Provide guidance to release engineers to develop objective scorecard summary recommendations.
- Provide guidance and direction to propulsion system team members including transmission, driveline, calibration, and other teams with onsite and virtual real-time feedback.
- Support onsite dynamometer triage, test cell setup, and dyno support to quickly and effectively troubleshoot and root cause test cell and engine issues.
- Support onsite part failure resolution, root cause analysis, and task force leadership for issues observed in dyno cells, teardowns, builds, etc.
- Track validation status for engine phases and escalate any concerns with timing.
- Interact with software, controls, and calibration teams to ensure deliverables are on time and escalate any issues.
- Call, manage, and lead task force meetings to resolve open issues related to hardware with interactions between calibration and controls.
- Prepare high quality presentations to report out on design or hardware issues, functional indicators, and other technical program topics.
- Work closely with Stellantis PS engineering teams and design team.
- Gather and seeking clarification of all information required to perform requested design study and engineering change notice work.
- Will need to use all Stellantis based systems.
- Be fully responsible for the quality and schedule of all deliverables to Stellantis for assigned projects.
- Be fully responsible for communicating if design issues are found as well as providing any additional supporting information to Stellantis.
- Document Stellantis's acceptance of satisfactory completion of all requested design services.
- Provide updates and reports to Stellantis on progress of assigned work.
- Close the loop with Stellantis management on all issues.
- Explore new ways of value addition to Stellantis.
Additional DSE responsibilities include:
- Key contributor for execution and compliance to the Stellantis Propulsion System Development Process (PDSP) for an assigned engine program with responsibility to summarize all technical inputs for recommendation and presentation to executive leadership.
- Critical approver for all technical decisions, timing plans, change notifications (CN's), bulletins, engine build books and service manuals.
- Responsible for approval and execution of complete engine mechanical development/validation plan for all project phases.
- Key point of contact within company for all engine related issues for assigned projects.
- Lead global cross functional teams from various department with expertise in various technical domains thru root cause analysis of issues and implementation of robust solutions.

**Work Arrangement:** This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business.
**The Role**
The Advanced Gas Engine Technology and Components group is responsible for the design and development of advanced gasoline engines and related technologies that are approximately 5-7 years away from production implementation. The focus of the group is to identify and develop innovative technologies that meet future fuel economy and emissions regulations while exceeding customer expectations for the target market segment at a competitive cost. You will perform engineering activities on the assessment and development of advanced Spark Ignition engine system technologies.
The successful candidate will be responsible for specifying and balancing requirements, execution and evaluation of designs, analysis, development, testing and validation of engineering projects where a substantial amount of creativity and initiative are involved as well as a high level of independent judgment. The broad scope of responsibilities may include any engine component or system. The role may include providing technical work direction to other engineers and/or support personnel. Actively engages in team issue resolution and supplier leveraging. Will work cohesively with a group of engineers, designers, and other support personnel responsible for executing smaller portions of larger projects.
**What You'll Do**
+ Initiate and / or support the development of advanced technology solutions aligned with business unit strategic intent.
+ Engage with suppliers and development partners to assess and develop advanced engine technologies.
+ Design, release, procure, build, and evaluate advanced gas engine components and subsystems that meet program performance and timing requirements.
+ Ensure designs are compliant with existing Bill-of-Design, Bill-of-Material and Bill-of-Process (BOD/BOM/BOP), as applicable.
+ Develop Statement of Requirements (SOR) documents in support of new BOD/BOM/BOP for technologies not comprehended in current BOD/BOM/BOP.
+ Lead, document, and communicate problem resolution and corrective actions,
+ Lead overall communication, coordination, and consultation with purchasing, engineering departments, suppliers, development partners and other key stakeholders.
+ Balance requirements across systems.
+ Provide technical guidance to analysis, design, engine development, and engine controls engineers in a collaborative team environment.
+ Plan and execute complex test plans designed to assess technologies against requirements and project deliverables.
+ Analyze and communicate test results to colleagues and management

+ Demonstrated 5+ years of work experience in the area of internal combustion engine development including component or subsystem design and/or analysis.

Our client in Auburn Hills, MI is looking for an Design Release Engineer - ECU Engine Controller Senior. This is a contract position.
What You Will Do:
The Engine Controller Hardware Development Leader will play a key role in vehicle or module-related projects. Their main mission will be to oversee the progress of product and process qualification for electronic control module components, from supplier selection to series industrialization. Responsibilities include but not limited to:Ensure the development, validation, integration, and qualification of components within their scope.
- Develop and publish engine control module performance standards.
- Execute programs through PDP that meet or exceed objectives for performance, cost, weight, investment, and quality.
- Direct suppliers in developing, testing, and releasing components to meet vehicle level requirements and sub-system level behavior objectives.
- Directly involved with supplier design efforts and design reviews to ensure the supplier design meets expectation as listed in specifications.
- Ensure product and process maturity in line with project expectations.
- Manage product and process changes based on identified needs.
- Oversee risks and critical points while addressing technical issues related to their scope.
- Develop core component hardware DFMEA for ECM modules. Review and sign off on Suppliers Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with design, manufacturing, suppliers, and other engineering teams to ensure seamless integration and production feasibility.
- Interface with global employees to harmonize product designs, processes, and documentation to promote component re-use.
- Support field warranty and quality investigations, leading the root cause analysis effort as well as contributing to the identification and validation of the optimal solution.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical from an ABET accredited university.
- 5 years of overall relevant experience.
- 3 years of electronic ECU or automotive 12V component development experience.
- Full understanding of automotive ECU development process or 12V energy management systems.
- Strong leadership skills (prepared to lead a supplier team).
- Relevant experience with electronic hardware.
- Self-starter with demonstrated problem solving ability.
- Onsite/remote hybrid position. 4 Days/Week at Chrysler Technology Center (Auburn Hills).
- No driving of a vehicle required.
