Leidos is excited to invite applications for the role of Civil Engineering Design Specialist to become a key member of our energetic team. In this role, you will work with the National Airspace System Integration Support Contract (NISC IV) team to support the Federal Aviation Administration's Eastern Service Area (ESA). You'll have the opportunity to engage in design engineering, cost estimating, scheduling, coordinating inspections, and project progress reporting.
This position is based in College Park, GA, and may require up to 25% travel.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design and plan a variety of facility establishment, replacement, and modernization projects such as buildings, roofing, antenna towers, site work, structural systems, seismic reinforcement, foundations, and environmental assessments.
- Conduct on-site surveys to inform designs and produce comprehensive reports.
- Examine and analyze studies of existing facilities to identify needs and enhancements.
- Utilize relevant software for effective analysis and design implementation.
- Create detailed sketches that illustrate the relationship between proposed work and existing or new facilities, including specifications and dimensions.
- Coordinate construction project activities directly with stakeholders and contractors to ensure milestones and deadlines are met.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to identify challenges and devise effective solutions for design or implementation.
- Prepare construction drawings, site-specific specifications, contract documents, and independent cost estimates.
- Review contractor design and construction submissions thoroughly.
- Engage in project management tasks, including safety plans, work sequences, risk management, and securing necessary permits.
- Participate in on-site meetings, inspections, cutovers, testing, and the restoration of facilities.
- Provide regular updates on project status to team members, management, and stakeholders.
- Respond promptly to requests for information and project-related submissions.
- Compile monthly and semi-annual work status reports.
- Track and reconcile project punchlist exceptions to ensure closure.
- Manage multiple projects toward successful and timely completion.
- Conduct internal design reviews of various projects.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- A minimum of four years of experience in the design and construction of commercial or institutional facilities, or a Master's degree coupled with two years of relevant experience.
- Current and comprehensive knowledge of building codes.
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite.
- Proficient in engineering analysis and design software tools.
- Ability to obtain and maintain public trust suitability.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Capable of creating and editing project drawings using AutoCAD.
- Understanding of the components of the National Airspace System within an air route traffic control center (ARTCC).
- Registered as a Professional Engineer in good standing in the United States.
