Job Description

  • Oversee daily activities of construction engineering inspectors across multiple roadway and bridge projects
  • Manage project schedules, assignments, and staff workloads to ensure quality and timely completion
  • Review and approve inspection reports, testing data, and field documentation
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and project engineers
  • Ensure compliance with NCDOT standards, project specifications, and safety requirements
  • Provide mentorship, training, and performance evaluations for inspectors and junior staff
  • Conduct field visits to monitor quality, resolve issues, and support staff as needed
  • Coordinate material sampling, testing requirements, and traffic control oversight
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for project managers and stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in engineering, construction management, or related field (or equivalent training/experience)
  • Minimum of 5 years of construction engineering inspection experience, with at least 12 years in a supervisory or management role
  • Strong knowledge of NCDOT specifications, roadway construction, and inspection processes
  • Proficiency in record keeping, plan reading, and construction surveying
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and drafting software
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to manage teams and interact with clients/contractors
  • Valid Class C drivers license
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications for inspection and testing
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, or extended hours when projects demand

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Have a thorough knowledge of department and related components including location of switches, valves, and controls throughout department.
  • Must have basic knowledge and understanding of tool usage.
  • Must be able to perform minor maintenance such as: bearing replacement, chain setting, oil/lube maintenance and minor trouble shooting skills.
  • Must be able to work overhead on a ladder or scaffolding in high areas.

  • Understand that the hours and days of work are established as needed by operations and at the discretion of management and while general as shown below, may be changed (increased or decreased) by management as required.
  • The maintenance department works four days on and three days off. The workday consists of a twelve-hour shift.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that the employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The environment is hot, humid, and odorous, with temperatures above 100F on the harvest side. The environment is cold and wet, with temperatures ranging from 28-48F on the cut/conversion. There is frequent exposure to hog blood. The noise level is loud.

What you will do

We are currently hiring an Engineering Technician in our innovative R&D center located in Cranston RI. Cranston is conveniently located outside of Providence.

The Technician will be performing tests and evaluations on fire suppression and mechanical piping equipment and other work you're leading. Records data, makes computations, and writes reports documenting results and conclusions. The Technician will also work with data acquisition equipment.

How you will do it
  • Reads and interprets test plans and procedures; resolves set-up and gives feedback to design and engineering to finalize plans and procedures.
  • Conducts testing of products in accordance with supplied procedures.
  • This includes assembly of test items, acquisition/procurement of test equipment, set-up of tests, running test, data collection, tear down of test systems, and other incidental tasks.
  • Uses computerized and analog data acquisition methods to collect data
What we look for
Required Qualification:
  • High School Diploma or Technical Trade School certification.
  • AutoCAD, Firefighter or Machine Shop experience will be a plus.
  • Proven basic math skills, Problem solving skills
  • Proficient in MS office programs such as Word and Excel
  • Ability to multi-task
