About the Role
This position will supervise up to six (6) engineers who work on a wide range of projects and programs within the work unit and the Capital Section. Projects include flood mitigation, detention and water quality facility repair or retrofit, feasibility projects, and regional stormwater facilities. The Engineering Supervisor is a working supervisor position, with an expectation to work 50% of time on capital projects in a project management and/or technical role and 50% of time in supervision/leadership.
As a leader in our organization, the individual in this position will provide guidance and mentorship to teams and individuals, help set performance metrics, assist with Unit work planning, work closely with project managers to create highly functioning teams, and bring a positive attitude and energy to set a tone of excellence and continuous learning where all team members are valued. The Engineering Supervisor will also serve as a technical expert and support other programmatic activities within the Stormwater Capital Unit, including management of the feasibility program, process improvements, team building, and workload planning.

About the Team
The Stormwater Capital Unit (SCU) designs, permits, implements and monitors stormwater projects across King County that address flow control, water quality, and aged or outdated infrastructure. SCU has a multidisciplinary staff of engineers, project managers, a landscape architect, and ecologist with experience in project feasibility, project planning and design, regulatory management, construction procurement and supervision, and project effectiveness monitoring.

Job Duties

What You WiIl Be Doing:

  • Provide direct supervision, technical oversight, and quality control to engineers for the implementation of stormwater capital improvement projects. Supervisory duties include hiring, performance management, career development, coaching and mentoring, and fostering a work culture where staff feel valued and not over allocated.
  • Direct personnel in the planning, design, and construction of stormwater capital projects, including facility retrofits, new stormwater facilities, flood reduction, and water quality retrofits to help meet regulatory compliance, or floodplain reconnection capital projects.
  • Provide and/or direct technical and quality engineering review of capital improvement projects to apply accepted design and engineering standards.
  • Manage capital projects and/or provide technical support to capital projects.
  • Collaborate with Stormwater Capital Unit Leadership Team to nurture team culture and plan/prioritize work assignments.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Qualifications You Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, water resources, environmental science, natural resource management, urban/regional planning, or any combination of education and experience that clearly demonstrates the ability and skills to perform the core work duties of the position.
  • At least five (5) years' experience as a lead capital project engineer.
  • Demonstrated experience managing capital projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple assignments with discipline, time management, and organization.

Working Conditions:
  • Remote and Onsite Work Details:
    Employees in this role work remotely from a home location, with onsite/field reporting requirements on Day 1 (orientation day) and typically 3-6 days per month. The frequency of onsite work is determined by business needs and may be adjusted accordingly. Onsite reporting locations may be at various King County worksites including the collaboration space at King Street Center (201 S. Jackson St, Seattle, WA 98104).   • Remote Work Location Requirement: Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements.

    This position requires the ability to conduct physical site inspections and evaluations, including in times of inclement weather conditions. Work tasks also may include in-water situations involving wading and the use of rafts. Ability to work long hours outside conducting field work and occasionally in inclement weather is necessary.

The Team

We are seeking an Engineering Supervisor to join American Tower's U.S. Tower division's Engineering team. The Engineering team maintains the safety and longevity of the Company's towers and ensures a high level of compliance with industry standards. Day to day you will lead a team of Engineers and Designers tasked with meeting production and quality goals. As an Engineering Supervisor, you will partner cross-functionally to minimize workflow problems or changes and provide guidance on technical matters affecting the team.

  • Review requests for engineering services work to determine the required type. Complete production work alongside staff.
  • For Structural Engineering:
    • Review tower structures, mounts, and foundations of tenant configurations to perform or supervise analyses of projects using hand calculations, tower analysis software, and other accepted methods. Generate required engineering reports.
    • Perform or supervise the design of modifications and review of drawings of projects including tower reinforcement, mount reinforcement, extensions, and foundations. Work with the Design team's staff to resolve discrepancies.
    • Perform and supervise the review of tower inspections and quality control review of analyses.
  • For Civil Engineering:
    • Perform detailed QA/QC of multiple customer collocation and amendment construction drawings.
    • Lead projects consisting of steel design, electrical or civil engineering; create unique detailings and designs.
    • Perform and supervise runoff calculations for basins, culverts, and bridges. Review storm water management best practices and design parameters for municipal approval and construction.
    • Perform and supervise the design and calculations of new road designs, large stream crossings, grading, and slope stability. Generate required engineering reports.
    • Perform structural calculations and designs for structural platforms, retaining walls, and foundations for shelters and small equipment.
  • Address jurisdictional inquires and write letters of low to unique complexity.
  • Ensure customer and sales system data is current while adhering to applicable quality control procedures.
  • As an Engineering Supervisor, you are responsible for the recruitment, performance management, and career development of Engineers and/or Designers. You'll also be expected to cultivate a collaborative team dynamic that enables us to meet our business objectives.

Qualifications

What You Need To Succeed
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Engineer in training or Engineering Intern certification required.
  • Professional Engineer license required.
  • Required experience must include at least one of the following: 5 years of communication tower design and analysis or civil engineering, 7 years of construction or field engineering of steel structures, or 7 years of land development or structural engineering.
  • Approximately 10% travel may be required in support of the position's responsibilities.
  • Strong organization, planning, and project management skills; ability to prioritize tasks for self and team to meet requirements and deadlines.
  • Ability to work with different functional groups and levels of employees to effectively and professionally achieve results.

  • Provide performance appraisal, employee coaching, and counseling. Resolve conflicts and implement disciplinary action when needed. Manage staffing and Headcount to meet equipment maintenance needs and coordinate the tasks for hiring.
  • Trouble and resolve automation equipment issues.
  • Work with outside vendors for equipment purchases. Manages spare part's usage for manufacturing equipment and make changes to improve cost and efficiency.
  • Ensure all Manufacturing areas and equipment are maintained in Good Housekeeping condition.
  • Monitor equipment and chart the course for continuous improvement of OEE and maintenance processes for compliance with Company, FDA, ISO, OSHA and GMP regulations.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • High School degree with 8+ years of experience or bachelor's degree with 5+ years of related work experience
  • Hands-on equipment experience with hand tools and machine shop tooling expertise
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio
  • Experience with mechanical design concepts and machinery: Electrical, Mechanical, and Electromechanical schematics, motors, pumps, vacuum, and hydraulics
  • Technical equipment expertise, knowledge, and skillset, combined with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in maintenance or technical field, supplemented by courses in Supervisory and Communication skills, Good Manufacturing Practices, cost accounting, product quality, and excellent computer knowledge
  • High-volume World Class Manufacturing principles.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Must be able to stand for several hours. Work may involve repetitive arm/wrist motions.

The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the Maintenance Engineering Team. This team is responsible for the maintenance of complex manufacturing processes in our IVD Factory.

Job Description

Responsible for leading a technical team and establishing and implementing the most cost-efficient methods for production. Plans and coordinates the activities necessary to produce specified products within safety, quality and cost standards. Also ensures schedule compliance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Develops and updates process documentation and procedure instruction.
+ Conducts direct labor studies using acceptable engineering practices and establishes standards on operations, set up and workstation layout.
+ Defines tooling and fixturing used in the manufacturing process. Coordinates with tool designers to specify or procure new tooling, fixtures and ideas and fixtures.
+ Analyzes and evaluates manufacturing methods and standards. Provides solution to problems that adversely affect operator safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
+ Conducts direct labor studies using acceptable engineering practices and establishes standards on operations, set up, and workstation layout.
+ Identifies areas of unnecessary cost. Researches methods and procedures for cost reduction, work cell development and material flow improvement.
+ Assists in development and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment.
+ Reviews preliminary designs, making recommendations to reduce costs and improve manufacturing and quality on new or existing parts.
+ Develops detailed, complete and accurate capital equipment studies and makes appropriate recommendations for capital expenditures.
+ Assists in preparation of departmental budget including material, manpower, equipment and outside procurement costs, and operates within approved parameters.
+ Reviews and evaluates cost pertaining to make vs. buy decisions and new product development.
+ Process purchase requisitions and records as required.
+ Team members are expected to work wherever needed based on training.
+ Work in safe and healthy manner, strictly following all safety rules and regulations.
+ Maintain a neat, clean, orderly work area.
+ Complete company provided training.
+ Performs special projects as assigned.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
+ B.S. in Engineering related field, preferably in Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering
+ 3+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience
+ 2+ years of experience leading a team preferred
+ Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
+ Excellent verbal and written skills required
+ Proficiency with PC's
+ Understanding of SPC
+ Strong Project Management skills
