**Job Description**
NREL has an opening for a graduate intern to support a research team focused on the development of conceptual process designs and techno-economic analysis of conversion technologies from plastics and polymers. This would be a year-long internship opportunity which will include but may not be limited to the following job duties:
+ Conducting techno-economic analysis (TEA):
+ Assisting in process modeling utilizing Aspen Plus
+ Performing economic calculations based on process model results, including equipment sizing and cost estimation
+ Reviewing literature and collecting data on relevant processes pertaining to the project
+ Documenting results and findings
+ Attending team meetings, presenting findings, and collaborating with NREL research team
+ Creating technical reports and contributing to academic publications
+ Using advanced functions in Excel

**Basic Qualifications**
Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
Undergraduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor's degree program from an accredited institution.
Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor's degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
Graduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master's degree program from an accredited institution.
Post Graduate: Earned a master's degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
Graduate + PhD: Completed master's degree and enrolled as PhD student from an accredited institution.

**Additional Required Qualifications**
+ Must have completed an undergraduate degree, be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a master's, or currently enrolled in a PhD program in chemical engineering, bioprocess engineering or related field
+ Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the application of process simulation software, such as Aspen Plus, for developing conceptual process models
+ Demonstrated experience performing calculations/functions in Excel
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Knowledge of Fortran and Excel VBA will be useful for model development
+ Demonstrated experience in process and design engineering, scale-up, costing, and TEA methodologies, including process considerations for equipment design optimization
+ Background experience in product separations, polymers, and bioproducts is a plus

**Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)**

**What you'll do:**
The Broomfield facility is a leader in the design, development, manufacture and delivery of medium voltage distribution switchgear and components for utility and C&I markets. The Engineering Manager will lead a team of engineers in various engineering functions including engineer to order (ETO), VAVE/Cost Out, maintenance of line, mechanical and electrical engineering, SEL relay programming, IEEE testing and standards, customer interaction and support, and technical expertise regarding medium voltage switchgear. You will use your professional skills to lead a team of engineers to keep up with the fast-growing market segments.
**Essential Responsibilities**
- Lead & Manage: Mentor engineers by guiding them through technical challenges and career growth, while aligning projects with skill development and promoting engagement in industry learning, certifications, and customer experiences.

Performs field inspections of work in and impacting public rights-of-way and easements conducted by private contractors, utility companies, and the public; including but not limited to:

- Monitors traffic control to protect the safety and convenience of the travelling public.
