Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with architects, general contractors, owners, and internal stakeholders to seamlessly integrate electrical systems into building designs.
  • Lead the design of electrical systems across various sectors-including commercial, industrial, institutional, food service, residential, and warehousing-with expertise in distribution, branch power and lighting, motor controls, and arc flash coordination.
  • Perform load calculations and select equipment and system pathways to ensure compliance, cost-efficiency, and long-term performance.
  • Support pre- and post-bid phases for design-build and design-assist projects, including plan modifications and partial system calculations.
  • Ensure all design work aligns with current codes, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Oversee multiple concurrent project designs, managing timelines, milestones, and deliverables to ensure on-time execution.
  • Create standardized design templates for typical installations (e.g., grounding, bonding, lighting layouts, panel schedules, elevations, and plan notes).
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of design meetings, changes, directives, and supporting materials, including date-stamped records.
  • Organize and maintain a standardized folder structure and technical specifications repository for use across the engineering team.
  • Track all projects and labor hours using Pieper Electric's ERP system, ensuring accurate reporting and cost control.
  • Forecast team capacity, project backlog, and resource allocation needs, adjusting plans proactively to meet demand.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to refine and implement consistent documentation, workflows, standard operating procedures, and software tools.
  • Work closely with the Construction Services Manager to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Supervise project flow, review design outputs for quality and accuracy, and ensure adherence to code and project intent.
  • Support team development through workforce planning, training initiatives, performance reviews, and professional development strategies.
  • Foster open communication, manage team workload, and ensure alignment with project goals and department objectives.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, hold a Wisconsin Design or PE certification

  • 10+ years' experience in electrical engineering and or electrical construction design.
  • 10+ years of utilizing electrical and construction-based design software.

  • Review test safety practices including conducting risk assessment and identifying improvement.

  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services. Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Development/troubleshooting knowledge of software and automation for Instrument LabVIEW, Visual Studio, Visual basic, C, C++, HMI and/or data-logger
  • Knowledge of computer and electronic applications for circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software including applications and programming
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering, electricity, and magnetism to conduct standard production tests on transformers
  • Must be willing to work overtime with no advance notice to perform emergency repairs
  • Possess industry knowledge and IEEE standards related to power Transformer testing.
  • Familiarity with developing automated and/or High Voltage test Equipment.
  • Ability to read electrical schematic blueprints, as necessary.
  • Excellent trouble shooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Knowledge of safety issues regarding power equipment and general high voltage substation environment (Electrical clearance, grounding, PPE, etc.)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Education / Experience

  • Associate degree in electronics technology/Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 3 years’ experience with developing test automation or Instrumentation or a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.

  • Associate/bachelor’s degree in electronics technology/Electrical Engineering with the one or more experiences below
    1. Development of Test system architecture and creating module-level interfaces
    2. Expertise in Real-time Data Acquisition, Analysis, Control, and monitoring systems
    3. Experience in industrial controls or automation or Instrumentation
    4. Experience in design and development/Debugging of LabVIEW based ATE (Automated Test Equipment) using PCI, PXI, NI DAQ, Serial, NI LabVIEW
    5. Knowledge of analog and digital circuits with expertise in troubleshooting complex electronic circuits, components, and instrumentation
    6. Development/Repair/troubleshooting of High Voltage Test Systems.

We are looking to add a Civil Engineering Technician who will help foster our mission that All People Should Live in Safe, Sustainable and Beautiful Communities! This role will include a focus on field work but may also include drafting & office activities as needed.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Construction observation activities may include performing construction staking, performing construction administration duties such as documenting activities, measuring and testing, providing general oversight, and interacting with contractors, sub-contractors, and City staff.
  • Assisting with design and construction phase activities on various projects
  • Performing basic design computations and preliminary layout and design
  • Assisting with project plans and specifications, preparing cost and quantity take-off estimates

What We Are Looking For:

  • Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology from an accredited institution or previous experience with infrastructure design and/or construction observation.
  • Knowledge and skills in CAD and design software. (i.e., AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStation)
  • Working knowledge and experience working with DOT standard specifications, standard plans, and standard plates .
  • Working knowledge of design and construction techniques and procedures.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license and your own transportation. You will be reimbursed for business-related travel.
  • Must be capable of working in extended outdoor conditions and you must be physically capable of navigating rugged terrain for the purpose of performing the construction observation duties.
