**What you'll do:**
Eaton's Corporate Technology Office is currently seeking an Engineering Specialist - Digital Engineering to join our team. This position is preferred to be based at our Southfield, MI location. If candidate does not live within a 50 mile radius of Southfield, MI other Eaton sites will be considered. This role is open to hybrid work.
The Engineering Functional Excellence Digital Engineering team is currently seeking a Specialist Engineer to lead the execution of both internal and government-funded programs that integrate digital technologies to accelerate product development and lifecycle management. Engineering Functional Excellence (EFE) is a corporate RDE function within Eaton's Chief Technology Officer division, responsible for innovative and breakthrough technology research and strategy development and commercialization for Eaton products and service solutions. The candidate will have expertise in one or more areas of digital engineering, such as computational design and analysis, digital twin/thread, digital systems modeling, or related aspects of the digital design ecosystem.
With focus on delivering value, the Specialist Engineer will combine engineering domain expertise, traditional methods, and AI to create high fidelity, multi-disciplinary models. Outcomes include accelerating product lifecycle management efforts, including product design, manufacturing, inspection, prognostics and health management, and digital twins.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop new products and technologies across Eaton's divisions and services to differentiate and lead in the emerging market.
- Execute internal and government-funded programs using agile work plans for iterative and incremental project delivery on-time and budget.
- Lead RDE proposals and build technology pipelines along with business stakeholders.
- Author procedures, guidelines, and best practices to support organic growth and adoption of digital engineering across the enterprise.
- Innovate and develop novel engineering processes that challenge the status-quo by securing critical intellectual properties through patents and external publications.
- Develop high-fidelity models with qualified predictive accuracy using a combination of AI and traditional CAE capabilities including FEA, CFD, FEM, Process Optimization, among others.
**Qualifications:**
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in engineering discipline or related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 7 years of industry experience in aerospace, automotive or electrical design.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in advanced modeling & simulation, optimization, and automation using CAE analysis packages such as ANSYS, Abaqus, MATLAB, among others.
- No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of an Eaton site
- will be considered. Active-Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.
- Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future.
Preferred qualifications:
- PhD in an engineering discipline or related field from an accredited institution.

- Proficiency with multiple programming languages (e.g., Python, VBA, Java, Angular).

In this role, you will play a critical part in driving detection innovation, engineering processes, and incident response maturity for Barracuda XDR. This is a unique opportunity to blend security operations, data engineering, and leadership in a global 24x7 Security Operations Center (SOC). You will work with over 50 different data sources and lead efforts aligned with the MITRE ATT&CK framework, while fostering collaboration between red, purple, green and blue teams to advance threat detection and response along with ensuring overall improvement and enhancement of Barracuda Security Operations Center. What You’ll be Working on: Proactive Engineering & Detection Development
- Lead and mentor a team of cybersecurity and ML engineers (Red Team).
- Develop, test and tune detection rules for multiple attack vectors across cloud, network, and endpoint telemetry.
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines to version and deploy detection rules.
- Implement and manage the full lifecycle of SIEM detection rules.
- Leverage AI/ML techniques for anomaly detection/behavioral analytics and SOC efficiency.
- Foster collaboration between red and purple teams to drive offensive and defensive innovation.
- Create and execute sprint projects using Agile methodologies to improve SOC maturity and R&D efforts.
- Implement proactive threat hunting initiatives across customer networks.
- Guide and monitor your team through complex security incidents such as ransomware.
Strategic Planning & Operations
- Drive strategic planning, goal setting, and roadmap execution.
- Ensure key SOC metrics, SLAs, and detection performance standards are met.
- Coordinate and maintain a global 24x7x365 on-call schedule.
- Provide regular reporting and weekly metrics related to Level 5 operations.
- Serve as a key point of escalation for critical security incidents.
- Lead implementation of new rules based on evolving vulnerabilities and adversary TTPs.
Innovation and R&D
- Lead R&D for emerging use cases, tools, and integration efforts.
- Guide the evaluation and adoption of new technologies aligned with future-facing cyber defense.
- Conduct and manage live “attack and defend” exercises to test detection and response readiness.
What You Bring to the Role:
- 7+ years in security operations, detection engineering and incident response.
- 2-3 years in leadership experience managing high-performing cybersecurity teams.
- 3–4 years of hands-on experience with Python and SQL.
- Bachelor’s or master's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, or related field.
- Experience designing and managing detection pipelines and architectures (e.g., Databricks).
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Experience with SIEMs like Elastic and Databricks, including advanced detection implementation.
- Familiarity with Windows, Unix, and Linux systems.
- Experience with threat intelligence platforms (e.g., Anomali, Cybersixgill).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work across global time zones (U.S. East and Ireland teams).
- Strong project management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to lead during high-pressure cybersecurity incidents and guide team response.
