A Day in the Life of a Principal Civil Engineer
As a Principal Engineer, you are at the forefront of brainstorming creative solutions for challenging projects, and you enjoy ensuring deliverables are of the highest quality. You lead, manage, design, and implement roadway, streetscape, and active transportation projects that positively and directly affect our communities. You are adept at managing conversations between disciplines, managing client relationships, and delivering projects from concept to construction. You will be at the table with clients and colleagues from a variety of disciplines, delivering project ideas from concept to construction. Qualifications of a Principal Civil Engineer:
- A Professional Engineering license in MI (other Midwest states a plus)
- A bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering
- Proficiency in one or more of the following: MicroStation (including OpenRoads), AutoCAD (including Civil 3D)
It would be a plus if you have any of the following:
- At least 15 years of engineering experience developing construction documents and/or public agency construction administration
- At least 5 years serving in a project and/or design management role
- A broad knowledge base in civil engineering, with specific experience in roadway design, drainage design, geometric design, 3D modeling and design of accessible public spaces
- A proven track record of past performance delivering multiple large/complex projects on time and on budget
- Experience in preparing transportation and local agency permit documents
- General experience leading multidisciplinary teams, coordinating utility and right-of-way impacts, street lighting, traffic signal, and landscape/hardscape layouts
- Interest in multimodal and active transportation design
- General knowledge of project performance metrics and strategies for monitoring them
- Experience in business development including networking with colleagues and clients at public events, industry organizations (e.g. ACEC, ITE, ASHE, or ASCE), and agency organized events

+ Assists with modifying and reviewing production drawings for a variety of projects involving high voltage (69-500kV) transmission lines.
+ Assists in designing transmission line components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers including plan and profile drawings, structure load diagrams and foundation drawings.
+ Applies basic knowledge of commonly used civil and structural engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the civil/structural engineering services industry.
+ Assists with research and compiles project related data as required by the project managers. Assists with compiling studies and reports.

**Qualifications**
