Join us. TikTok's Privacy & Data Protection Organization is expanding our Privacy Validation and Detection Engineering (VaDE) Team. TikTok's Privacy VaDE Team is responsible for validating potential privacy gaps, developing robust detections to enable continuous privacy monitoring, and providing technical engineering support during urgent incident & inquiry response efforts. As a Senior Software Engineer within the Privacy VaDE Team, you will be responsible for assessing and enhancing the privacy and data protection measures within our organization. Your primary focus will be on developing detection methods to monitor for the presence of privacy gaps. Leveraging your expertise in data protection and development, you will play a vital role in safeguarding the privacy of our users' information and ensuring compliance with relevant data privacy laws.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Privacy Detection: Develop detection methods to continuously assess and monitor for gaps in our privacy posture.
2. Privacy Validation: Perform tests on suspected privacy vulnerabilities to validate the presence of a vulnerability and gather evidence to support remediation efforts.

Work closely with development and product teams to incorporate privacy best practices into the design and development of new products and features. Advocate for "privacy by design" principles to embed privacy considerations throughout the product development lifecycle.
5. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of privacy assessments, testing, detections, and related activities. Generate regular reports for management and stakeholders, providing insights on privacy risks.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Familiarity with core privacy concepts such as data minimization, purpose limitation, data sovereignty, transparency, and data retention.
- Proven software development experience involving large scale data environments with an emphasis on building detection systems.
- Strong offensive security & privacy testing skills with a focus on privacy concerns.
- Proven experience in privacy assessments, data protection, and compliance.
- In-depth knowledge of global privacy regulations and standards, including GDPR, CCPA, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with privacy-enhancing technologies and data anonymization techniques.
- Familiarity with basic security concepts including OWASP Top 10.

Compensation Description (annually): The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $194,000 - $355,000 annually. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives and restricted stock units.

Design services and take ownership of underlying cloud infrastructure for physics-informed and data-driven scientific workflows.
Design novel algorithms and actively engage with operations to increase overall system performance, it spans across the stack e.g. deep understanding of application code e.g. DL Framework, Numerical Solvers, Microservices, APIs, and Heterogeneous accelerated computing with CPUs and GPUs.
Design, Build, Deploy, and Operate scalable I/O infrastructure for checkpointing, data loading, pre & post-processing of data.
Optimize compute, storage, and network architecture specific to physics & simulation-driven applications.
What we need to see:
- BS/MS degree in Computer Science or related areas or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years experience working on building and operating distributed compute and data-intensive platform as a service on cloud
- Proven skill in a compiled language (Go, Rust, C++ or otherwise).
- Strong foundational knowledge in Cloud Computing e.g. "The Datacenter is a Computer" architecture, cloud security architecture, virtualization - CPU, Memory and IO, Resource pooling and elasticity.
- Proven skills in Distributed Systems & Parallel Processing e.g. System model of distributed computation e.g. topology abstraction, logical time. Synchronization and deadlock detection in distributed systems, Fault Tolerance and Failure Detection, Consensus and Agreement protocols, Parallel algorithms, shared memory and distributed memory architecture, message passing (MPI, NCCL), Cluster scalability and performance.
- Hands-on Debugging skills with Process, Threads, Deadlock and Synchronization, Scheduling, IPC, Memory management, File system, and I/O structure.
- Strong Evidence of Algorithmic Thinking & System Design skills e.g. Recursion, Graph, Tree, Stack, and Queue, Large scale loosely coupled distributed system design and operational experience.
- Be self-motivated, have strong interpersonal skills, and be able to work independently with multiple teams with minimal direction.
Ways to stand out from the crowd:
- Have built, deployed, and operated AI platforms on HPC clusters. Have built, deployed, and operated cloud-native system including distributed storage, scheduling, and orchestration among compute, storage, and network.
- Configuring and troubleshooting hardware, operating systems, kernels, compilers for maximum performance.
- Hands-on debugging skills to optimize performance of compute, networking, and I/O framework. Extensively worked on third-party source code for debugging and customization.
