Summary:
Under limited supervision, plans, designs and analyzes data on civil engineering projects such as bridges, retaining walls, tunnels, dams and drainage structures. Primary responsibilities include working in a team environment, developing high quality structural designs, preparation of contract documents, and contribute to client management.
Essential duties:
This position will provide task level responsibility on transportation projects. These will include:
- Provide analysis and design for new highway, rail & pedestrian bridge structures.
- Prepare construction drawings, project special provisions and structure selection reports.
- Design transportation related structures including retaining walls, underground vaults and culverts.
- Perform analysis and load rating of structures using multiple software packages including CSI Bridge, SAP2000, MIDAS, LEAP, MDX, LPile and AAHSTOWare.
- Support the advancement of project design teams with mentoring and direction of younger engineers and technicians.
- Support business development with preliminary design concepts, and site assessments as needed.
- Visit work sites as needed.
- Communicates with supervisor and clients regarding project issues.
- Maintain task budgets and schedules.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (BS) in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
- Minimum 8 years of experience. A Master's degree can be substituted for 1-2 years of experience.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Colorado.
- Knowledge of CDOT Bridge Design manuals and design standards.
- Project Management Experience is a plus.
- Working knowledge of AASHTO LRFD design code.
- Experience with CSI Bridge or MIDAS (or equivalent structural analysis software), and Finite Element Modeling a plus.
- Proficient in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
- Demonstrate initiative and attention to detail and accuracy.
- Self-motivated individual with strong written and verbal communication skills.
COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $103,000 - $162,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.

**Location**
This position is based out of our Lone Tree, CO offices.
**Responsibilities**
+ Develop complete estimates for large, complex jobs.
+ Collaborate with permanent design and construction engineering disciplines, in-house and Third Party.
+ Review plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project; develop plan for the actual construction to serve as basis for the estimate.
+ Reviews all bid and contract documents and home office views.
+ Conduct site investigation prior to forming a plan of operations to identify any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present.
+ Utilize engineering techniques and procedures to conduct investigation and adhere to standard company policy and procedures.
+ Perform design work as required by the project that is beyond the estimator scope of experience; handle any major technical problems encountered during bid preparation.
+ Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods and procedures that are developing in the industry.
+ Prepare special engineering studies or reports required by certain bid items or conditions.
+ Prepare and manage subcontract and material supplier solicitations.
+ Consult with clients on various challenges discovered during bid preparation, design, rates, schedules, etc.
**Qualifications**
+ Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related degree preferred.
+ Broad knowledge and ability to understand project scheduling, cost control, specifications, and engineering drawings.
+ 5+ yrs of construction/engineering experience, specifically with heavy civil infrastructure projects.
+ Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint).
+ Experience with InEight Estimate (HardDollar) highly desirable.
+ Experience with CADD and 3D Modeling software.
+ Possess strong mathematical and computer skills.
+ Must be able to meet deadlines.
+ Effective oral and written communication skills.

**Responsibilities**
+ Perform quantity takeoffs from source files including CAD, Microstation, or PDF
+ Prepare estimates for subcontracted and self-perform utility work including: water, wastewater, gas, electric, telecom.
+ Travel to project or pursuit offices, interface with other discipline estimators to ensure scope alignment
+ Input quantities into estimating software, apply unit pricing based on actual historical costs using Kiewit database. In the absence of historical costs, able to prepare theoretical estimate.
+ Research historical projects to determine past-costs applicable to the work being performed
+ Perform top-down estimates (high-level ROMs) and bottoms up estimates by analyzing every aspect of every operation in detail
+ Prepare subcontractor bid packages - includes compiling quantities and writing detailed scope. Answer technical questions from bidders and work with Kiewit Supply Network to compile quote comparison sheet.
+ Prepare and present estimate review packet
+ Prepare construction schedule by advising schedule technicians on activity logic, duration, and resource loading such as manhours and quantity.
+ Working knowledge of Kiewit standard account codes, apply correct account codes to estimated work
+ Continuous improvement such as self-paced training and estimate debrief sessions
**Qualifications**
+ Civil Engineering or Construction Management Degree
+ 10 Years Minimum experience - with preferably 5 in estimating
+ Able to open and manipulate .dwg, .dgn, .pdf files
+ Working knowledge of Bentley Projectwise
+ Basic knowledge of utility construction means and methods
+ Utility construction field management recommended
+ Advanced knowledge of Microsoft excel
