Job DescriptionThe Admissions Advisor is a pivotal member of the Enrollment and Integrated Marketing organization at Texas State Technical College (TSTC), contributing significantly to the mission of placing Texans into high-paying jobs. In this role, the Admissions Advisor executes both internal and external activities to attract applicants and supports them through the admissions process. Reporting directly to the Team Lead of Admissions, the Admissions Advisor serves as a key contributor with some supervision.

Hiring Range is $42,000 - $46,000 USD Annual.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

    • Provide information related to TSTC programs and applications.

  • Technology Utilization:

    • Utilize various software programs to track prospective student outreach and follow-up.

Job Description

The College of Architecture, Arts, and Design at Virginia Tech seeks a highly motivated Director of Undergraduate Student Recruitment to provide support for the strategic recruitment of undergraduate students into 15 undergraduate majors. This on-campus recruiting position complements the efforts of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. The successful candidate will be a point of contact for future and prospective first-year and transfer students and their families and serve as a partner for key stakeholders and constituents such as VT Undergraduate Admissions, the four schools within the college (Architecture, Design, Performing Arts, and Visual Arts), high schools, community colleges, and more.

The director will be responsible for coordinating communication with prospective students and families regarding the admissions process, leading weekly information sessions and meeting with interested students and families to educate them about the college's academic programs. The director will also coordinate events and efforts in collaboration with undergraduate admissions and school faculty to achieve a high yield o the college's admitted students. The work will be in communication and collaboration with school and program recruitment committees; for example, communicating with some schools' student ambassador programs and managing the scheduling of auditions with faculty for admission to the college's music program. Some weekend or evening work is expected.

Additionally, the director will work regularly with the Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration and the Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs as part of the dean's office Financial Aid and Scholarship team to assist in the award and management of dean's office scholarships.

The successful candidate will be creative, a good collaborator and communicator, have the ability to design and implement new recruitment/yield strategies, and build high-performing and trusting relationships within both the college and the university.

Position Summary

Major Duties

PLEASE NOTE: The position will be filled at either the Student Services Professional (SSP) IA, IB, or II levels dependent upon the applicant's qualifications.

SSP IA: Under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of Student Outreach, the Outreach Counselor Trainee - Black Student Recruitment will be responsible for increasing the enrollment of prospective undergraduate Black students at CSUN. The incumbent will be trained to: conduct outreach and recruitment services, establish strong relationships with college counselors, parents, students, and communities to create a college pipeline for Black students from high schools and community colleges; conduct speaking engagements and workshops; assist with department-wide events; provide presentations encompassing information on the CSU system, CSU Northridge, EOP, financial aid, the application process, pre-enrollment follow up, tele-counseling, and the master plan of higher education in California; and compile recruitment data and prepare reports.

SSP IB: Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Student Outreach, the Outreach Counselor Assistant, Black Student Recruitment, conducts school site outreach activities to support enrollment goals; assists with implementing plans of action and activities related to outreach and recruitment of prospective Black students' first-time freshman and Black transfer students to the university. The incumbent conducts speaking engagements and workshops, assists with department-wide events, and provides presentations encompassing information on the CSU system, CSU Northridge, EOP, financial aid, CSU application process, pre-enrollment follow-up, tele-counseling, and the master plan of higher education in California. Compiles recruitment data and prepares reports.

SSP II: Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Student Outreach, the Outreach Counselor supports university recruitment and enrollment goals. The incumbent coordinates school site outreach activities within our campus service area; organizes assesses and implements plans of action and activities related to outreach and recruitment of prospective first-time freshman and transfer Black students to the university. Attends college fairs, career days, college nights, and community college events; provides individual matriculation and follow-up to interested prospective students at designated high schools and community colleges; conducts speaking engagements; leads workshops; organizes presents, and coordinates presentations encompassing information on the CSU system, CSU Northridge, EOP, financial aid, application process, testing, pre-enrollment follow-up, tele-counseling, and the master plan of higher education in California. Compiles recruitment data and prepares reports; assists with coordinating and implementing department-wide events such as Admitted Matador Day, CSUN Days at the local community colleges, and other events and conferences promoting CSU Northridge.

Qualifications

SSP IA: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. No experience is required. Experience working with minoritized students with an emphasis on Black students and working in a higher education environment preferred.

SSP IB: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. Equivalent to one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. A Master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for the required experience. Experience working with minoritized students with an emphasis on Black students and working in a higher education environment preferred.

SSP II: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a job-related field.

Equivalent to two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field. A Master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Experience working with minoritized students with an emphasis on Black students and working in a higher education environment preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SSP IA : General knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior; working knowledge of research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information; and working knowledge of the techniques and methods of interviewing. Ability and specialized skills to: gather and analyze data; ability to reason logically, draw conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations; participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews; clearly express ideas and recommendations orally; write clear and concise reports; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and faculty.

SSP IB: General knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management; working knowledge of research and interviewing techniques; working knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior; ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of the organization, procedures, and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned; and working knowledge of the basic principles, practices, and major trends in the Student Services field to which assigned. Ability and specialized skills to: rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the specific objectives of the campus Student Services program and its relationship to the total campus operation; interpret and apply program rules and regulations; gather and analyze data; ability to reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; present clear and concise information orally and in written reports; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations and other private and public agencies.

SSP II: Working knowledge of the practices, procedures, and activities of the program to which assigned; working knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management; working knowledge of research and interview techniques; and working knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior.

Ability and specialized skills to: interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze, and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data. Advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multi-sexed, and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies, and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts. Ability to rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions, and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications about other programs or service areas Services Office.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver, and more.
  • The anticipated HIRING RATES are $4150 (SSPIA); $482 (SSPIB) & 5083 (SSPII) per month. The salary ranges for these classifications are: 4150 - 5076 (SSPIA); 4482 - 6342 (SSPIB) & 5083 - 7228 (SSPII) per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may include evenings and weekends. May be required to travel (both air and land) with some overnights (Overnight may consist of anything between one day to three weeks)
  • The SSP IA: will be a temporary position. Based on satisfactory progress and successful completion of the training program, the incumbent will be progressively promoted from SSP IA to the probationary SSP IB position.
  • The SSP IB: will be a temporary position, and is not automatically promoted to the SSP II; promotion is dependent upon departmental needs at the time.

Job Summary:

The purpose of this position is to assist the Recruitment and Outreach Services area, a unit of the Admissions and Recruitment office, with event promotion, campus tours, greeting students, and answering phones and providing general office support.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

1. Completed at least one semester of classes (at least 6 semester hours) at ECC
2. Excellent customer service and communication skills
3. Proficient with technology, including typing, MS Office, and basic computer functions

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

1. Previous customer service experience
2. Excellent knowledge of MS Office and technology
3. Familiarity with ECC's campus and the enrollment process, or ability to learn these skills quickly

Essential Duties:

  • The anticipated HIRING RATE for the SSP II is 5083 per month. The salary range for this classification is: 5083 - 7228 per month.
