About the role :
We're seeking a Entrepreneur (Adjacencies) to identify, validate, and scale new digital business models that sit adjacent to Transurban's core tolling and mobility services.
You'll join an innovative team, who expands Transurban's platform based growth strategy and captures emerging value pools that align with our long term vision of becoming a technology powered mobility leader.
As our Entrepreneur (Adjacencies), you'll contribute to lasting and positive changes that shape the future of our cities and communities. It's meaningful, challenging and exciting work.
Day-to-day, you will:
- Lead the identification and validation new venture opportunities by analyzing market signals, customer needs, and emerging technologies.
- Conduct primary research and structured experimentation to assess product-market fit and inform scalable business models.
- Develop and iterate lean business models and go-to-market strategies, balancing innovation with financial viability.
- Lead rapid prototyping, pilot programs, and Minimum Viable Product (MVP) development, driving ventures toward commercial integration or spin-out.
- Prepare investment cases and secure funding through internal governance processes.
- Build strategic partnerships with startups, tech providers, and adjacent industry leaders to accelerate innovation.
- Leverage external funding sources such as grants and co-investments to reduce venture risk.
- Collaborate across teams and represent the organization in innovation forums, incubators, and portfolio reviews.
- Work closely with other entrepreneurs and the New Ventures team to share insights and coordinate efforts.
- 5+ years experience in venture building, innovation leadership, product management, public private partnerships, or transformation programs.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, with a proven ability to launch, scale, or transform new initiatives within startups, corporates, or the public sector.
- Proven track record of identifying and acting on unmet needs to deliver creative, commercially viable, or policy aligned solutions, especially within government agencies, transportation authorities, or civic technology environments.
- Skilled in lean startup, design thinking, policy prototyping, or other agile innovation methods especially as applied in regulated or complex stakeholder environments.
- Demonstrated experience developing business cases, cost benefit analyses, or investment proposals that align with both commercial and policy objectives.
- Strong stakeholder management and ecosystem collaboration skills, with experience navigating cross sector engagement.
- Strategic thinking with a bias for action, capable of operating in ambiguous and evolving contexts.
We are open to considering candidates who either reside in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area, are within a reasonable commuting distance to Tysons Corner and Alexandria, VA and/or are willing to relocate at their own expense. Candidates who reside in the DMV area will be prioritized.

Overview
MagLev Aero is seeking an entrepreneurial, mission-driven leader to serve as our Embedded Entrepreneur as part of our participation in DARPA's Embedded Entrepreneur Initiative (EEI). The EEI is inclusive of the DARPA Commercial Accelerator program which provides a Senior Commercial Advisor (SCA) to conduct due diligence and advise MagLev Aero on a part-time basis. The selected candidate will lead MagLev Aero's commercial transition efforts-bridging technology, market entry, and scalable operations. The EE will interact with the Mag Lev Aero team, the DARPA Commercial Strategy Team, and the DARPA Commercial Accelerator to include the SCA provided.
Responsibilities:
- Define and execute commercialization strategy for defense and commercial markets
- Identify and structure teaming agreements with OEMs, integrators, and partners
- Establish sales pipeline and customer engagement
- Support fundraising and proposal capture
- Execute EEI milestones in coordination with DARPA
- 7+ years in aerospace, unmanned systems, or commercialization roles
- Defense or government experience preferred
- Startup and investor engagement experience a plus
- Strong communication and BD skills

SELECTION PROCESS
- Selected candidates will have several in depth interviews, will take online assessments, will complete and present a business case assignment and will have a jury review of their investment thesis over several weeks
- Also includes webinars for candidates to gather more information about the program and meet the NCA team
- Final Assessment Center with the jury selection happens in December 2025

As a NCA Searcher, you will spearhead an up to 24-month professional search to acquire one small midsized company. Within the scope of our Operator-Led Search Fund program, you will have access to financial and business support from NCA during the search, as well as an attractive incentive package in the form of a base compensation and vested shares in the acquired company that will further enhance and secure your entrepreneurial journey.

SEARCHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish together with us a search process aiming to generate sufficient deal flow with the ultimate goal of finding a business to acquire in accordance with pre-defined criteria
- Manage the acquisition process with the support of our experienced Investment Management team
- Step into the CEO role of the newly acquired business
- Proactively generate and evaluate strategic growth options and business opportunities, develop long term business strategy and 100-day plans
- Grow the business top line via impactful marketing and sales initiatives
- Review product/service offerings, portfolio strategies, existing brands positioning and identify gaps and implement improvements
- Manage geographical expansions, when required, preparing and successfully implementing market entrance strategies
- Manage efficiency and ensure profitable growth
MUST HAVE REQUIREMENTS
- 10+ years of professional experience
- Academic achievement (Executive MBA or MBA degree preferred)
- Min. 5+ years in leadership roles managing multiple teams across multiple geographies and locations
- Min. 10+ years of proven track record of running and growing businesses or business units in the US
- P&L responsibility
- Having a strategic vision for a sector or an industry
- Strong motivation towards entrepreneurship
