The Environmental Attorney is responsible for providing clients with legal advice, guidance, and representation, keeping in mind the client’s best interests. Responsibilities will include all areas of matter management, analysis, strategy, and preparation including, but not limited to:
- Meeting with clients and keeping them updated on matter developments
- Identifying clients’ objectives and using strategic and creative thinking to make appropriate recommendations to achieve those goals

- Being diligent in obtaining necessary information from clients, agencies, opposing parties, and others

Direct Counsel is looking for a litigation attorney to join a mid-sized boutique law firm, with 30-year history, in its busy Environmental Defense Department. Applicants must have 1) at least two (2) years civil litigation experience; 2) superior writing and oral argument skills; 3) familiarity with or a willingness to learn about bedrock environmental laws, such as CERCLA; and 4) be admitted to the California Bar. Geology or hydrogeology background a plus. Trial, class action, toxic tort, and/or environmental regulatory agency experience also a plus. Successful candidates will be expected to play an active role in small to high-profile environmental matters. This is a great opportunity to grow as a young attorney.
Responsibilities:
- The ideal candidate will also possess experience with advanced litigation including the management of cases throughout all stages (clear communication with clients and fellow attorneys as to status of cases, drafting of complex motions, pleadings, discovery).
