  • Oversee and manage specific legislative and regulatory projects to support Daikins North American strategy and for subsidiary companies. Develop strategy and implementation plans, coordination schedule and execution.
  • Integrate companys primary short and long term legislative and regulatory goals.
  • Assist with high priority projects and special events.
  • Interact with industry trade association staff and committees to develop industry position for the regulations.
  • Interact with other stakeholders such as environmental advocates, governmental regulatory agencies, utilities and utility organizations in regard to environmental regulations.
  • Company representation / participation in key technical and regulatory committees for environmental standards and regulations affecting company products.
  • Offer regulatory evaluation and opinions on rulemakings and provide regulatory assessment to management, including technical aspects of such federal environmental (EPA) regulations, building codes requirements (such as ICC and IAPMO), voluntary green building requirements (e.g. USGBC), state and building code environmental requirements, industry association activities (such as ASHRAE and AHRI).
  • Perform additional projects/duties to support ongoing business needs .

The Safety / EH&S Compliance Specialist is responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance with all company environmental, health, and safety policies as well as OSHA and other local, state, and federal employment statutes. The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge of job site occupational safety, safe tool operations, and driver’s safety policies. They will assist with defining safety compliance standards, report on non-conformances, provide data analysis of each location’s compliance and safety records, and conduct training, monitoring and observations in the field on safety related matters.

Qualifications

Our Safety Compliance Specialist will be responsible for fostering an environment that emphasizes a strong safety culture in our Material Recovery Division. They will do this through auditing the facilities for safety opportunities, training local employees on safety policies and programs, organizing and leading safety committee meetings, and ensuring we are compliant with all TOMRA, state, and governmental EHS requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Monitoring and enforcing PPE requirements that are required within the specific facility (steel-toed shoes, hearing protection, eye protection, Hi-Viz clothing, and proper cut resistant gloves).
• Building and maintaining a positive and consistent Safety Culture specifically on the processing floor at each depot location.
• Communicating safety hazards and opportunities to managers and supervisors, following up to ensure the issues are documented, corrected or are in the process of being corrected.
• Audits of safety items (E.G. fire exits clear of obstruction/debris, slip/trip/fall hazards, etc.)
• Audits to ensure compliance with required safety policies and programs, digital record keeping of such trainings (E.G. PIT, LOTO, confined space, etc.…)
• Manage monthly/yearly OSHA regulated training compliance to make sure all is completed by warehouse employees.
• Validate proper usage of PIT (Powered Industrial Truck) program, including classroom training, hands-on evaluation, daily checklist management, reckless/unsafe driving, reevaluations, and close calls.
• Assist in organizing injury and accident root cause analysis reviews for warehouse employees.
• Observe daily operations, report unsafe conditions/ acts and ensure steps are taken to correct.
• Partner with EHS, P&O, and operational leadership to develop safety policies and programs.
• With the assistance of the P&O team, issue progressive discipline to correct safety issues/concerns.
• Own TOMRA’s safety committee program, developing and coaching a safety committee at each location.
• Leading monthly local safety committee and quarterly regional safety committee meetings.
• Assist in managing TOMRA’s EHS software system, KPA.
• Stand in as a backup to the EHS Manager/Systems due to planned PTO or unforeseen circumstances.
• Ensure compliance with TOMRA SAFE standards and guidelines.
• Ensure due diligence, to take reasonable steps to ensure TOMRA is complying with its health, safety and environment obligations under relevant legislation.

Field Audits & Inspections

Role Purpose: The purpose of this position is to develop, implement and manage a training and competency regime for Engineering track workers and to also provide oversight and assurance of the compliance and integrity of the track structure. These approaches ensure both the highest levels of safety and performance are consistently achieved and fully compliant with all contractual, company and regulatory requirements for the MBTA Commuter Rail System.

Position Specific Accountabilities:
  • Develop, implement and manage a training and competence regime for Engineering track workers
  • Oversee and perform the instructional training of track inspectors in the classroom and in the field to enhance and develop skills and knowledge
  • Perform audits, random assurance checks and analysis to monitor the quality and accuracy of track inspections.
  • Develop and successfully implement a 12-month business plan for the Track Department for FRA compliance and meet agreed deliverables.
  • Ensure all mandated Track Inspection reporting requirements are completed within the prescribed time frames and are compliant with KCS, MBTA and regulated authorities.
  • Participate with FRA inspections and remediate any areas of attention that are identified during these inspections.
  • Ensure proper remedial actions of Track and CWR Defects are taken within the prescribed timeframes (geospots, internal rail defects).
  • Define and implement the quality processes required to continuously improve the compliance of the track department regarding track safety.
  • Demonstrate understanding and adhere to the KCS principals of Employee Engagement, Operational Excellence & Safety, Customer Satisfaction, Corporate Social Responsibility and Economic Performance.
  • Recommend Engineering department policies, procedures, standards, objectives, and programs and successfully implement these to help ensure/assure compliance with federal, state and other applicable rules, regulations and KCS/MBTA Contract Agreements for area in scope.
  • Provide managerial leadership to a capable team of managers and professionals (Track & Purchasing) to deliver effective outcomes in respect of vendor and contractor accounts for repairs, maintenance, testing and inspections are performed in the designated time frame and performed efficiently.
