**Job Summary**
Responsible for the development and implementation of policies, procedures and programs to ensure the Environment Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHS&S) compliance of the. facility
Collaborate on the development and support rollout of corporate programs as related to implementation at the facility. Lead and manage site EHS&S audits in collaboration with site management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Develop and implement policies and procedures targeted toward increasing the safety and protection of the environment for the businesses.
+ Ensure facility compliance with applicable environment health and safety regulations.
+ Implement site audit program of the EHS&S compliance of the site, track and report status of corrective actions, and alerting senior management to developing problems where intervention or oversight is required.
+ Participate in site leadership as a member of the site Leadership Team and conduct reviews at appropriate intervals with facility senior management.
+ Consult with site management and employees on Federal, State, and Local regulatory compliance related issues. Work with site facility management to ensure proper training programs are established with regards to environmental and health and safety compliance.
+ Responsible for timely submission of environmental reports and permits to local, state and federal regulatory agencies.
+ Work with site Leadership and Site/Global Procurement to develop cost savings initiatives to ensure business continuity and best in class service pricing.
+ Provide lead support and formal response to EHS agency inspections conducted by local, state and federal regulatory bodies.
+ Manage moderate size capital infrastructure projects from inception to completion including regulated areas.
+ Develop program budgets and schedules in support of EHS&S initiatives including platform tools (e.g. Enablon).
+ Monitor and drive progress of EHS&S projects and programs, maintaining budgets and schedules.
+ Lead the selection process for hiring third party service firms, evaluating proposals, conducting interviews and making recommendations to senior management, in partnership with site Procurement and Management
+ Provide supervision and development of EHS Site staff. Ensure appropriate communication takes place around EHS issues.
+ Consult with Corporate Engineering, Company management and workplace staff to identify and resolve potential EHS&S issues through engineering design changes or other means necessary, such as Facilities controls, JHA job hazard analysis.
+ Clarify, define, and assist in enforcement and application of Agency and Company policies and practices.
+ Support and affirm the Company policy of Equal Opportunity through Affirmative Action.
+ Partner with site leadership to address audit findings from clients, regulatory agencies, or internal CRL audits.
+ Provide EHS&S training to staff and contractors including OEB, SOP, and EHS&S policy training.
+ Perform all other related duties as assigned.
**Job Qualifications**
+ _Education:_ Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in a life science (biology, chemistry), environmental engineering, or related discipline.
+ _Experience:_ Seven to ten years related experience.
+ An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
+ _Other:_ Sound working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and government regulatory requirements and guidelines. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize work and meet deadlines. Proficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Project. In- depth knowledge of environment, health and safety regulations required. Ability to communicate and influence senior management on EHS compliance initiatives.

Compensation Data
The pay range for this position is $100,000 to $20,000. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, and location.

Overview:

A leading food manufacturing facility in the Chicago area is seeking an experienced EHS Manager to oversee and drive safety, environmental, and health initiatives at the plant level. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader who combines regulatory knowledge with a practical, hands-on approach to risk reduction and continuous improvement.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead by example while promoting a culture of safety, responsibility, and operational excellence.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and mentor to teams throughout the facility.
  • Use both experience and innovation to improve site-wide EHS performance and awareness.
  • Proactively identify and assess workplace hazards and develop and implement corrective actions.
  • Analyze safety data and incident trends to create improvement plans and reduce risk.
  • Coordinate responses to safety incidents, including investigations and corrective actions.
  • Oversee all workers compensation documentation, data tracking, and cost management.
  • Develop and maintain EHS-related databases and reporting systems.
  • Interpret federal, state, and local regulations and industry best practices to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Conduct and support internal audits and participate in third-party, customer, or government inspections.
  • Maintain accurate documentation aligned with regulatory and company standards.
  • Provide EHS training on policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other related duties or special projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree, in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of EHS leadership experience in a manufacturing environment required; food industry experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of USDA, BRC, FDA, and HACCP regulations is a plus.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CSHM, or CHMM are highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access); experience with cloud-based EHS systems preferred.
  • Ability to occasionally travel for audits, trainings, or conferences.
  • Must be able to work in food manufacturing environments, including areas with allergens.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs occasionally and perform physical activities such as climbing ladders and stairs.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE in compliance with facility protocols.

The EHS Specialist is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety programs across the manufacturing site. The EHS Specialist works cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, and leadership teams, with a strong presence on the production floor to proactively address hazards and engage employees in safety practices.

Work Type (Onsite): This position will be based onsite at our Milwaukie, OR facility. This job opening is not eligible for immigration/work visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities:
  • Actively engage on the production floor to observe work practices, identify hazards, and promote safe behaviors.
  • Support site compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable EHS regulations through routine audits, inspections, and program implementation.
  • Lead or support incident investigations, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Coordinate and deliver safety training programs (e.g., LOTO, machine guarding, fall protection, PPE, hazard communication).
  • Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments in collaboration with operations and maintenance teams.
  • Maintain accurate and organized EHS records, including training logs, incident reports, environmental permits, and regulatory filings.
  • Support environmental compliance programs including waste handling, stormwater, air emissions, and chemical storage.
  • Partner with supervisors and employees to drive proactive safety initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Monitor and report on leading and lagging safety metrics; contribute to action planning and safety goals.
  • Assist in developing and reviewing written safety programs, procedures, and work instructions.
The salary for this position is between $65,000 and $90,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. This range reflects our commitment to fair pay based on skills, experience, and market standards

Knowledge/Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment (light and/or heavy industrial experience preferred).
  • Solid knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations and practical application in manufacturing settings.
  • Experience with EHS software systems and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Safety certifications (e.g., ASP, CHST, GSP) are a plus.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence safety behavior at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements:
  • Must be comfortable spending significant time on the shop floor.

Basic Qualifications

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Basic understanding of construction safety
  • Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Able to become First Aid, and CPR Certified to rapidly respond to employee health emergencies and activate emergency procedures

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field related to EH&S Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Science, or equivalent degree
  • OR 5 Continuous Years of experience leading EH&S efforts in an industrial manufacturing setting
  • Computer software skills: Excel, PPT, Word, and ability learn to utilize Owens Corning systems and software
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Customer focus

Preferred Experience:

  • Preferred: 2 Continuous Years of experience leading EH&S efforts in an industrial manufacturing setting
  • GSP or ASP certification preferred, not required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrate sound leadership on the job through safety performance, communication skills and teamwork
  • Knowledge in the implementation of OSHA, EPA, and other general industry EHS standards
  • Comfortable in identification and coaching of unsafe acts or behaviors at all employee levels
  • Understands development needs within the Owens Corning EHS body of knowledge and makes improvement plans to increase technical abilities.
  • Ability to promote a team environment and must be able to initiate, lead and drive cross-functional team projects to successful completion
  • Energetic, resourceful, with a strong service orientation and positive can-do attitude. Fully committed to the EHS mission and vision.
  • Continuous Improvement Leader. Never satisfied with the status quo, continually striving for excellence and efficiency.
  • Enhance the vision to improve performance, efficiency, and safe practices by motivating employees to achieve EHS goals
  • Able to recognize hazards and associated risks that lead to the development of practical mitigation strategies.
  • Basic computer skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Able to work in Non-Climate controlled manufacturing environment
  • Ability to safeguard self and others with proper PPE for the specific task
  • Exposure to hot/cold temperature- continuous or periodic depending on tasks/projects
  • Exposure to noise- periodically
  • Hand/Eye Coordination continuously
  • Walk, Sit, Stand for duration of shift with regular breaks
  • Lift/carry/move up to 25 lbs. independently and heavier weights with assistance.
  • Climb stairs, steps, and ladders
  • Ability to work extended hours as necessary
  • Able to Operate Computers & Computerized equipment for quality, safety and compliance testing and training.
  • Communicate with co-workers face to face, by telephone, and electronic communications.
  • Possess manual dexterity necessary to operate equipment, operate a computer and other standard office equipment.
  • Vision adequate to manipulate equipment controls, complete paperwork, utilize computers, and have depth perception.
