**Job Summary**
Review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors. May conduct inspections and enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals
Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance. + Responsible for managing the development, planning and implementation of company industrial safety programs.
+ Oversees the development, planning and implementation of environmental, health and safety policies and procedures (chemical safety, ergonomics, illness and injury prevention and building safety) within the company.
+ Plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
+ Coordinates company Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Safety Committee. Provides protection for personnel and company property.
+ Conducts periodic on-site facility audits to check for compliance with OSHA guidelines.
+ Investigates root causes of accidents and prepares reports with the findings and corrective actions.
+ Prepares and facilitates the safety training program.
+ May administer a safety incentive program.
+ Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. This job will have the following responsibilities:

  • Designs and implements safety and environmental policies and procedures including, but not limited to, written programs, recordkeeping, reports, inspections, monitoring, testing, and training.

Safety:

  • Plant Safety Culture Leadership: Actively participate on plant Safety Committees and promote employee engagement to develop an active and robust safety culture. Ensure Safety Committee meetings minutes are published. Follow up on attendee action items to ensure that the Safety Committees are effective. Organize internal facility audits of safety processes.


Health:

  • Health Monitoring: Review all health studies with Regional Safety Professionals to ensure that data measurements were valid and then ensure that all appropriate corrective actions are captured within the Graymont Auditing System


Environmental:

  • Quarterly, Semi-Annual and Annual Reporting: Complete quarterly, semi-annual and annual Title V reports. Complete requests for information supporting GHG, TRI and Air Emission Inventory reporting. Coordinate reporting activities with Corporate HSE to ensure all reports are completed accurately and on time to state and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Compliance and Source Testing: Coordinate plant functions with Corporate HSE to plan and implement on-site source testing. Ensure compliance with all internal and external environmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Continuous Environmental Improvement: Develop and execute action plan to improve environmental performance against state, federal and company Uniform Environmental Standards.
  • Graymont Environmental Standards Implementation: Coordinate with Corporate HSE staff to develop and roll out new environmental standards.


Qualifications

  • Science/Engineering related bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Two or more years’ experience in safety/health and industrial hygiene (MSHA/OSHA) compliance preferred.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced Safety Specialist to support a high-compliance project. This is a full-time opportunity for a safety professional with a strong background in hazardous materials, construction safety, environmental health, and regulatory compliance.


Responsibilities

  • Serve as the on-site safety professional representing the general contractor, ensuring compliance with all project, client, and federal safety requirements.
  • Conduct daily site safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments, maintaining accurate logs, reports, and documentation.
  • Monitor compliance related to asbestos abatement, heavy metals, lead, silica, and other hazardous exposures
  • Implement, monitor, and enforce EM 385-1-1 safety plans and all project-specific procedures.
  • Lead toolbox talks, orientations, and training sessions for site personnel.
  • Maintain regular on-site presence and actively participate in project and client meetings to provide proactive safety guidance.
  • Investigate and document accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring corrective actions are taken to prevent recurrence.
  • Support additional project-specific safety initiatives and compliance requirements as needed.


Qualifications:

  • Valid Asbestos License
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification (completed within the past 5 years)
  • Must demonstrate strong knowledge of EM 385-1-1 requirements, with current 40-Hour certification.
  • Construction Quality Manager- CQM (required)
  • Proven experience managing safety on government projects (USACE, NAVFAC, AOC, DOD, or similar).
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence subcontractors and crews.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in environmental/ construction safety
  • Strong understanding of demolition, abatement, and remediation safety practices
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and field coordination skills
