The Department of Earth System Science's (ESS) goal is to understand, predict, and respond to human-caused and natural environmental change at local to global scales. ESS includes a large and growing graduate student and postdoc community.
Earth System Science is seeking a full-time researcher to help with a variety of projects supporting research investigations related to fire ecology and biogeochemistry in the Pellegrini lab Environmental Science Lab Manager will work closely with the PI and members of the research group. The core goal is to coordinate and support the establishment of the Pellegrini lab at Stanford. This will involve developing analytical pipelines in the lab as well as coordinating permits, acquiring equipment and organizing the lab as well as support analytical work.
This position will involve a combination of field and laboratory measurements, operation of analytical equipment, methods development, and general project support. In addition, the candidate should be able to work independently and to analyze problems and create solutions to them. + Coordinating wet lab work (purchasing and setting up equipment, designing analytical pipelines, assisting with analyses).
+ Designing and executing field and lab studies focused on climate change and fire.
+ Conducting fieldwork as campaign-based trips (e.g., Sequoia and Kings Canyon, Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve, and Kruger National Park).
+ Analyzing and interpreting research data for purposes of modeling and presentation.
+ Overseeing and managing equipment for reliability.
+ Maintaining safety standards and protocols in the lab and in the field.

**To be successful in this position, you will need:**
+ Bachelors' degree and two years of experience in related scientific fields, or combination of education and relevant experience.

+ Demonstrated experience with analysis and interpretation of research data, and ability to recognize irregularities and invalid results.
+ Demonstrated ability to organize data and develop models allowing for integration and display of data.
+ Basic experience with scientific software applications, systems, or programs relevant for the job.
+ Ability to coordinate and work with scientific or research staff and assist with technical procedures.
+ Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to provide information to scientific and research staff.

The Environmental Manager is responsible for the management of facility environmental programs at the site. This role is crucial in ensuring that our operations align with headquarter sustainability goals and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local environmental regulations. You will lead initiatives to minimize environmental impact and ensure continuous improvement in environmental performance.
**Responsibilities**
+ Evaluation, coordination and implementation of programs, policies, practices and activities to control air emissions, monitor industrial wastewater treatment and discharges, manage and minimize solid and hazardous waste, and to manage activities required under the Toxic Substances Control Act, the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act and all other applicable environmental laws and regulations.

**Summary:**
Meta designs, builds, leases and operates the most innovative and efficient data centers in the world. Developing, operating, and managing the data center infrastructure and facilities the "right" way is synonymous with ensuring high uptime, capacity availability, flexibility, and capital and operational cost efficiency in a safe working environment. Meta evaluates sites around the world for data center development and is seeking an environmental expert to lead and manage environmental due diligence, including environmental permitting, for North America site selection efforts. This position will report directly to the Environmental Team Manager within the overall Site Development team.
**Required Skills:**
Environmental Manager Responsibilities:
1. Manage environmental due diligence activities across multiple concurrent development efforts throughout North America, including Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, noise studies, air permitting, wetlands/water permitting, and biological and archaeological and built environment historic resource evaluations
2. Working with other team members, promote environmental compliance through construction and facility operations, including support for training, auditing, and maintaining permit compliance
3. Evaluate new data center designs for environmental impacts (e.g., noise impacts, air permitting implications, and fuel management)
4. Scope, review findings, and provide clear direction to consultants and internal teams on environmental conditions and permitting
5. Lead environmental permitting and regulatory compliance efforts for site selection, including Section 404, Section 106 consultation, Title V air permits, and environmental impact studies. Understand, communicate, and align these approvals with Meta development timeframes
6. Develop, summarize, and clearly communicate environmental obligations across multiple wide-ranging internal and external teams, including design, construction, and operations teams
7. Provide environmental expertise to varied internal teams and coordinate with other internal stakeholders about relevant issues and requirements, including Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) teams where needed
8. Develop training and educational tools regarding environmental goals, compliance, and awareness
9. Stay current on changes in environmental policy and regulations to assess and mitigate risks to the project portfolio
10. Assist in facilitating the growth of the environmental program within Meta Data Centers as the company continues to grow and build environmental awareness
11. Travel up to 30%

13. 7+ years of experience in environmental due diligence and permitting efforts
