The Department of Earth System Science's (ESS) goal is to understand, predict, and respond to human-caused and natural environmental change at local to global scales. ESS includes a large and growing graduate student and postdoc community.
Earth System Science is seeking a full-time researcher to help with a variety of projects supporting research investigations related to fire ecology and biogeochemistry in the Pellegrini lab Environmental Science Lab Manager will work closely with the PI and members of the research group. The core goal is to coordinate and support the establishment of the Pellegrini lab at Stanford. This will involve developing analytical pipelines in the lab as well as coordinating permits, acquiring equipment and organizing the lab as well as support analytical work.
This position will involve a combination of field and laboratory measurements, operation of analytical equipment, methods development, and general project support. In addition, the candidate should be able to work independently and to analyze problems and create solutions to them. **Job Summary**
PSEG Long Island is seeking an Environmental Science and Planning Analyst to join their Licensing and Permitting (L&P) team. The Senior Environmental Science and Planning Analyst will support licensing and permitting activities for utility projects located throughout Long Island and the Rockaway Peninsula. This role will involve reviewing project scope documents and design drawings to evaluate the need for, and to identify, the necessary environmental permits and approvals. The Senior Environmental Science and Planning Analyst will be directly involved in licensing and permitting activities, with a particular focus on State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) in accordance with 6 NYCRR Part 617, and Federal and State wetland permitting. The analyst will serve as an advocate and subject matter expert for environmental permitting, and will consult with appropriate regulatory agencies to identify compliance requirements.
**Job Responsibilities**
- Review project scope documents and designs (including engineering drawings, contract documents, specifications) to identify permits and approvals required for construction/operation.
- Preparation of permit applications and environmental documentation including but not limited to State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) analyses, U.S Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) wetland permits.
- Visit project sites to oversee work activities and monitor environmental compliance, as needed
- Oversee consultants and contractors during field activities (wetland delineations, geophysical surveys, soil/groundwater sampling, etc.) as needed
- Manage consultants/subcontractors supporting licensing and permitting activities
- Complete or participate in wetland delineation activities

Responsibilities:
- Assist senior researchers in conducting environmental science studies, focusing on (specify area, e.g., water quality, soil remediation, climate modeling).
- Collect, process, and analyze environmental samples and data using standard laboratory and field techniques.
- Conduct literature reviews to support research projects and prepare summaries of findings.
- Maintain detailed and accurate research records, including field notes, lab results, and data logs.
- Operate and maintain scientific equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functioning.
- Contribute to the development of research methodologies and experimental designs.
- Assist in preparing research reports, presentations, and manuscripts for publication.
- Collaborate with team members, sharing progress and assisting with shared tasks.
- Ensure adherence to laboratory safety protocols and environmental regulations.
- Manage and organize research data, ensuring data integrity and proper storage.
- Participate in team meetings and provide updates on assigned research tasks.
- Assist in preparing materials for research presentations and scientific conferences.
- Support grant writing efforts by providing relevant background information and data.
- Perform data entry and preliminary statistical analysis.
- Learn and apply new research techniques and technologies.
- Currently pursuing a Master's or Ph.D. degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Ecology, or a closely related field.
- Strong academic record with a demonstrated interest in environmental research.
- Prior laboratory or field research experience is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with environmental sampling and analysis techniques.
- Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., R, SPSS, Excel) and scientific visualization tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a research team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Must be reliable, motivated, and eager to learn.
- Familiarity with scientific literature databases is beneficial.
- Proficiency in (specify software if relevant, e.g., ArcGIS for spatial analysis).
- Ability to commit to a specified internship period.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US.
- A genuine curiosity about environmental issues and research methodologies.
