The Environmental Test Technician assists in the creation and execution of written Standard Manufacturing Procedures and detailed Work Instructions to perform inspection, environmental testing and disposition of a variety of thin film coated optics in support of the Optical Coating Department.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

In support of and under minimal supervision, the Environmental Test Technician inspects, environmentally tests and dispositions optical thin film coatings on witness coupons in a high-paced production department. This position focuses on the execution, monitoring and detailed inspection of accelerated aging tests performed on thin film coatings to determine pass/fail of product (temperature, humidity, salt fog, adhesion, etc).

The optics and associated witness samples for measurement require careful handling and attention to detail as parts in this stage are typically considered finished goods and can be easily damaged if meticulous protocols are not followed. The work for this role includes:

  • Organize and maintain samples and sample traceability provided from various departments for contract specified environmental testing requirements
  • Organize testing by schedules provided via department management and Planning function
  • Keep detailed, meticulous records to provide objective evidence of sample traceability and proof of sample testing and results per requirements
  • Maintain detailed filing of records for the purpose of retention in accordance with customer contracts or AS9100 standard and requirements
  • Set up, perform, and report on testing per MIL-specifications or other program requirements
  • Learn to operate, maintain, troubleshoot and keep in calibration a variety of environmental test equipment (humidity/salt fog chambers, temperature test equipment, abrasion testers, etc)
  • Effectively utilize typical environmental testing tools and instruments such as pH meters, multimeters, tweezes, abrasion tools, loupes and microscopes
  • Gain exposure to and cross-train with Coating Metrology function, performing spectral testing pre and post environmental testing
  • Maintain a clean, organized and auditable environment
  • Must be able to work flexible hours.

Education & Experience
  • 2+ years minimum experience as an Optical Inspector, Technician or equivalent within an optics company. Experience with environmental test equipment, optical quality inspection, optical test & alignment equipment, spectrophotometers, and metrology methods is preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Job Description

The Field Technician/Courier is responsible for the Collection, pick-up and delivery of water, soil and air samples to and from the laboratory. Maintain the quality, hold time, and turnaround time objectives of the lab. Prepare and deliver bottle orders to clients following the SOP of the lab. Receive and stock all sample control supplies, prepare and ship sample kits and perform sampling events as needed. Dispose of samples and hazardous waste according to guidelines and carry out any other duties assigned by the department manager.

Position will work out of the Pittsburgh, PA laboratory. Compensation (DOE) - $19/hour plus full benefits. Mon-Fri 1st shift

Field Technician responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collect field samples in assigned area of responsibility from assigned clients.
  • Plan and complete daily assigned route in accordance with priorities. Notify supervisor of any changes to plan.
  • Prepare and deliver sample containers/materials to various clients in support of their account.
  • Regularly transport, set up, utilize, troubleshoot and break down sample collection/monitoring equipment in support of assigned projects/customer accounts.
  • Communicate directly with customers providing clear and accurate information concerning their sample collection timeline and access requirements.
  • Communicate with supervisor and main laboratory, routinely sending timeline and sample/project updates throughout assigned daily route.
  • Perform miscellaneous on-site testing when required, record all data, and complete/submit all required sample documents.
  • Transport samples from the field back to the laboratory, maintaining accurate sample custody documentation, occasionally link up with other technicians mid-route to facilitate sample transport and supply exchanges.
  • Drive safely and observe all traffic laws. Maintain assigned vehicle according to company expectations for cleanliness and maintenance.
  • Observe all OSHA safety requirements while adhering to the company health and safety policies; do not enter any confined space(s) without direct approval from upper management.
  • Fill out and maintain documentation/records related to field sampling activity. Document all data as required by the method performed and maintain logbook records in a complete and ethical manner
  • Work assigned shift/hours in support of business needs maintaining flexibility to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays when requested.

Courier responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following :

· Perform all duties as outlined in the SOP for Couriers.

· Pick up and deliver samples, bottle orders and report to the laboratory for sign-in and analysis.

· Count the number of samples when receiving them from clients to make sure that the Chain of Custody and samples match. Verify that samples are not broken or damaged.

· Receive and sign the Chain of Custody.

· Ensure that client signs, dates, and records time on the Chain of Custody when releasing samples.

· Transport samples on ice from client site to the lab, or from our lab to a sub- contracted laboratory.

· Unload samples and inspect for damage or violated hold times to maintain sample integrity.

· Interact with Project Managers and clients appropriately and professionally.

· Follow directions or use maps to locate client offices/sites as specified in the courier request form.

· Communicate effectively with the courier coordinator about the courier schedule.

· Record in the courier log book the time that courier arrives to the site and time leaving from the site for all the pick ups and deliveries.

· Maintain records for the vehicle maintenance and driving miles; turn it in at the end of each month.

· Restock supplies when received so supplies are available to employees when needed.

· Verify the validity and completeness of all bottle orders being delivered. This verification is done prior to leaving for delivery.

· Comply with the Company’s “Driver Evaluation and Qualification Policy”.

· Maintain the shipping/receiving area to ensure a safe work environment.

· Prepare outgoing shipments of bottle kits and coolers for pick-up.

· Perform on-site sampling events as needed.

· Dispose of samples according to guidelines on a monthly basis to remain in compliance with EPA and EH&S requirements.

· Maintain delivery truck to keep in proper working order.

· Label samples after log in on an as needed basis.

· May be assigned other sample control duties as identified by the department manager of Sample Control.

Qualifications:

Basic Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A valid state issued driver’s license is required with Clean driving record to drive company vehicle.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds on occasion.
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
  • Final candidates must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
  • Professional working proficiency in English is a requirement, including the ability to read, write and speak in English.

**U.S. Compliance Testing Team Summary:**

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Director to join the Global Compliance Testing team. The successful candidate will lead our regulatory control testing and assurance function for part of our Global Wealth and Asset Management (GWAM) segment. Responsibilities

Responsibilities:
  • Projects involve a considerable amount of overnight travel, projects may be all over the country. The field-testing portion of each project typically lasts from 1 to 5 days and the test teams are generally home on the weekends, but some projects may require working or traveling on a weekend. The number of people needed in the field and the number of days in the field, varies with each project and changes from week to week. Expect 75% of the weeks to involve field work.
  • When not in the field, duties may include equipment calibrations and repairs, prep and packing for future projects.
  • During testing, the Environmental Technician will be at the location recording data, operating equipment, or working in the trailer recovering samples, performing analysis, etc.
  • The Environmental Technician will become proficient in the various EPA sampling methods and develop knowledge about many types of industrial processes.
Qualifications

Requirements:
  • Must be able to comfortably lift and carry 50 pounds. The testing projects can involve moving equipment to, and working at, elevated test locations, such as an exhaust stack platform or a rooftop. Access to the test location may be by elevator, stairs, or a ladder.
  • Must be able to work comfortably throughout all the seasons as much of the work is outdoors.
  • Completion of assigned responsibilities in a team setting with strong written and oral communication skills, and moderate computer skills.
  • Successful completion of a background check and drug test (including marijuana) prior to employment or within five working days from date of hire. Once hired, participation in the TRC random drug testing program.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and successful completion of a pre-employment motor vehicle records check to confirm a good driving record. Once hired, maintaining valid DOT driver status (not Commercial Driver's License) is required.
  • Successful completion of all required annual safety training.
  • High School diploma or GED is required.
