**Job Description:**
We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer with top-notch programming skills to join our team. The primary role of this individual will be to manage and organize our battery performance database, enhance the existing formulas and calculations used for sizing utility-scale battery energy storage systems in Excel, and ultimately transition these calculations to a software environment. This software will allow users to input data and automatically calculate the appropriate sizing for battery energy storage systems.
**Responsibilities:**

+ The Utility Scale Energy Storage team is looking for an innovative and dynamic engineer as the Battery Technology Lead to take on a key Principal Engineering role, spearheading the design, engineering, and technology evaluation of utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS).
+ This role requires a comprehensive understanding of all components of utility-scale batteries and the ability to act as a value engineer to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
+ The successful candidate will also play a crucial role in sizing batteries and managing system losses, ensuring optimal performance aligned with power purchase agreements and specific project requirements. This position generally prefers in-person office presence but offers hybrid or conditional remote options for the right candidate.
**Responsibilities:**
**1. Design and Engineering:**
+ Lead the technology assessment efforts for utility-scale battery energy storage systems.
+ Evaluate technical specifications for battery components and systems, and act as leading SME in relation to BESS OEMs.
+ Ensure coherent and optimized sizing of the BESS from the point of interconnection, to GSU, Substation, Inverters, all the way to the battery.
+ Constantly update and upgrade the existing BESS sizing calculator and assess the inputs/outputs to make the sizing calculator more accurate.
**2. Technology Evaluation:**
+ Work as the lead SME in the team to assess and evaluate new and existing battery technologies and their applicability to utility-scale systems.
+ Conduct thorough technical evaluations and performance assessments such as degradation, efficiency, available energy, and overall reliability, encompassing battery cells, modules, and system integration.
+ Create weekly Energy Storage News brief for the management to stay ahead of the market activities.
+ Create quarterly Energy Storage Technologies Update summary for the management based on battery intel database such as Bloomberg, Wood Mac, and CEA.
+ Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in energy storage technologies.
**3. System Integration and Loss Management:**
+ Understand the sizing requirements for both DC (i.e. battery) and AC (i.e. inverter) components and ensure the sizing inputs are taking into account the detrimental factors from the broader energy ecosystem such as PV or wind.
+ Identify and manage losses in the system to ensure accurate battery sizing and project feasibility.
+ Implement measures to enhance the efficiency, performance, and cost- effectiveness of storage solutions.
**4. Power Purchase Agreements:**
+ Be hands-on involved with power purchase agreements review to understand unique use case details and requirements for each battery project that can impact the sizing and overbuild.
+ Size and optimize battery systems accordingly to meet specific project needs and contractual obligations.
**5. Value Engineering and Optimization:**
+ Conduct value engineering assessments to address bottlenecks and areas of improvement.
+ Engage in optimization initiatives to harmonize existing systems with cutting-edge technological advancements.
**6. Project Management and Supply Chain Coordination:**
+ Act as the main POC between the engineering team and the supply chain team for battery technology knowledge sharing.
+ Collaborate internally with the BESS project managers and project engineers to ensure project-specific constraints are taken into account for the project sizing, and act as main POC for communicating the project sizing with the supply chain team.
+ Perform due diligence on manufacturing sites, assessing battery cell, module, and container integration and testing processes.
**7. Pilot Projects and Innovation:**
+ Perform due diligence on the commercial and technical readiness of various battery chemistries (e.g., lithium-ion, alternative technologies).
+ Make recommendations for pilot projects based on the potential for commercialization and scalability in the United States.
+ Work closely to secure funding for pilot projects and drive innovation in battery storage solutions.
**Experience:**
+ Minimum of 5 years of experience in energy storage design, engineering, and technology evaluation.
+ Extensive knowledge of battery chemistry, electrical systems, power electronics, thermal management, and system integration.
+ Proven ability to manage and optimize system losses to ensure accurate battery sizing.
+ Hands-on experience with power purchase agreements and their unique specifications.

They will support dyno commissioning and first-run activities. They will work closely with EVCU controls team to ensure features are working sufficiently and efficiently. They will provide training to all new calibration engineers and/or anyone else needing training on the operation of ePT vehicles and controls. They will support trips and report activities for Sr. Management. They will work with the CoE teams to ensure best practices are followed. Responsibilities:
· Create and maintain project plans - define activities, work breakdown structures, predecessors, successors, resources, and baselines
· Prepare business cases, contingency releases, and manage project budgets within established project governance rules
· Develop, monitor, and update cash flow projections
· Ensure project scope control and documentation is maintained
· Analyze and report on variances for project cost and schedule
· Create and maintain Excel spreadsheets for reporting and analysis
· Measure the progress of activities and milestones in project plans
· Lead meetings for project scoping, constructability review, design review, competitive bid, construction inspection, commissioning, and as-built incorporation.
· Negotiate and execute contracts, process change orders and report actual costs
· Drive consensus, communicate responsibilities, and ensure ownership and accountability
· Arbitrate and resolve conflicts within the project
· Manage change control, involving project sponsor and stakeholders
· Conduct design and drawing reviews on-site with various project stakeholders to identify and mitigate any issues and challenges identified during this process
· Prepare and present timely and actionable status updates
· Facilitate focused and cross-functional meetings and calls
· Draft and communicate meeting minutes, risk registers, decision logs and status reports
· Represent the client to government agencies and make presentations to senior management and stakeholders
· Work with various government entities in submitting and obtaining permit approvals
· Interact with customers concerning land rights
· Lead the project team in identifying, tracking, and mitigating risks, issues, and opportunities
· Escalate risks and issues in order to keep projects on schedule and on budget
· Identify and communicate lessons learned and incorporate into projects as best practices
This is a Hybrid role, with once a week in office, in the Oakland, CA area.

· A Bachelor's degree
· 5+ years of work experience in project management or construction management
· Good verbal and written communication skills
· A willingness to travel for site visits, kickoff meetings, and other project-related needs
Desired Qualifications:
· Professional Engineer (PE) license, Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification
· Experience with electrical distribution, substation, or transmission projects
· Experience with Oracle Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project
· A natural tendency for taking ownership and a willingness to lead
· A strong commitment to quality and attention to detail
· A passion for training and building a team
