The ideal candidate will be responsible for the full design lifecycle, including planning, organizing, and performing detailed engineering design, as well as developing engineering specifications and reviewing the work of the project design team. **Here's a glimpse into your day to day:**
+ Individuals in this position are responsible for planning, organizing, and performing detailed engineering design.
+ This position receives general administrative direction from the division manager and is responsible for the mechanical design of a few projects of varying complexity.
+ Individual may support other engineers or project managers.
+ Research applicable industry standards, prepare engineering studies, analysis of systems, preliminary and detailed engineering designs.
+ Develop engineering specifications.
+ Review work of project design team, check progress of work and alert managers to change of scope and additional services.
+ Coordinate some aspects of project document completion.
+ Direct CAD designers for the preparation of construction drawings.
+ Possess ability to interpret applicable codes.
+ Work with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to codes is required.
+ Coordinate project design with other engineering disciplines and clients.
**You'll be a perfect fit if you have:**
+ Minimum (5) years of design experience helping to create construction documents for buildings and facilities projects. Projects may include commercial, mission-critical, laboratory, life sciences, data centers, industrial or healthcare.
+ Capable of providing field surveys in order to document existing building conditions.
+ Capable of performing cooling and heating load calculations.
+ Capable of performing ventilation calculations using the ventilation rate procedure (VRP).
+ Capable of performing COMcheck calculations.
+ Capable of performing ductwork and piping pressure drop calculations.
+ Capable of performing ductwork, piping and plumbing layouts.
+ Capable of interpreting Building and Fire Codes, and/or working with code officials.
+ Capable of providing equipment selections and drawing specifications for air devices, terminal units, expansion tanks, water heaters and plumbing fixtures, pumps, fans, and packaged air handing units.
+ Capable of providing construction administration support for equipment noted above.
+ Capable of providing equipment details.
+ Capable of providing basic control sequences.
+ Must be a valid U.S. Citizen

+ Microsoft Office applications - Word, Excel and PowerPoint

**Overview**
MECHANICAL ENGINEER (AT):
The Mechanical Engineer position is responsible for supporting manufacturing projects. This position combines hands-on technical work and maintenance of equipment and supplies. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, familiarity with engineering drawings and quality assurance techniques, organizational skills, in depth experience with precision machining operations, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The position is 100% on site in Indian Head, MD.
**Responsibilities**

The position will be located at the Brandon Shores Power Plant in Baltimore, MD (Pasadena area) and support our fleet of power plants (Brandon Shores and H.A. Wagner). We are looking for qualified candidates with an emphasis on technical experience with coal fired generation and the balance of plant equipment associated with coal fired power plants. Experience managing plant related projects is desired.
The expected salary range for this position is $110,000.00 to $120,000.00 annually. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors as permitted by law. Successful candidates will also participate in Talen Energy's Short-Term Incentive program.

Secondary Purpose & Summary:
Manages power plant related outage work and projects.
Responsibilities:
1. Uses independent, professional judgment to trouble shoot and resolve problems associated with procedures, equipment and systems.
2. Provides project leadership, coordination and technical direction of departmental, company and contractor personnel in connection with the conduct of major maintenance and modifications activities.
3. Performs and evaluates engineering studies and investigations of problems associated with the performance, maintenance and operations of Boiler-pressure vessels and, in some cases, high pressure piping.
4. Determines mutually agreeable customer requirements in preparing scope, cost estimate and schedule for major maintenance modifications, and capital replacement projects - maintains the long term 20-year capital and major maintenance project list.
5. Provides guidance to engineering and technical personnel assigned to assist in work assignments.
6. Keeps abreast of technical developments affecting Company, department and area of expertise.
Skills/Competencies:
1. Performs job duties safely and adheres to all safety and environmental compliance requirements.
2. Demonstrated ability to complete job assignments in a setting that requires teamwork, as well as independent decision making.
3. Demonstrated ability in the evaluation of OEM recommendations and the ability to discern the applicability of the recommendations based on individual unit operating history and risk assessment.
4. Ability to direct engineering, planning and other craft in their duties.
5. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.
6. Understanding of boiler, turbine, generator and balance of plant operation, including fossil fuel handling, fuel combustion, and combustion by-products handling and control.
7. Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manufacturer specifications for mechanical equipment.
8. Ability to develop and execute project of different budget sizes and scopes.
9. Understanding of project management, including project flow documentation, project financial (budgeting, forecasting, cost track, etc).
10. Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment to solve issues and to provide insight on action plans.
Education & Experience Required:
1. B.S. degree in Engineering and six to eight years of experience in the maintenance and troubleshooting of fossil fuel fired generating equipment and their auxiliaries. Some experience with air heaters, pulverizers and environmental control equipment is desired.
2. Professional experience and an in-depth knowledge of the design and operation of fossil fuel power plants and an understanding of the applicable codes.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail, despite interruptions, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen for long period of time. Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. It will be necessary at times to visit power plants or other potentially hazardous industrial locations, primarily for the purpose of evaluating performance.
