**Responsibilities**
The Hourly Process Tech will guide the overall team's mission in productivity, safety, quality, operations, continuous improvement and team effectiveness.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**
+ Assist with performing changeovers with minimal downtime
+ Ensure all products are running at standard production rate for assigned shift
+ Update, review and provide recommendations to plant Process Engineer for process sheet updates
+ Develop, implement and execute programs to improve overall product quality and line efficiencies.

Position Overview

Summary: The Wire and Cable Insulation Extrusion Process Engineer is responsible for the insulation / extrusion process in wire and cable manufacturing, ensuring safety, optimal production efficiency, product quality, and process improvement. This role involves troubleshooting extrusion issues, optimizing machine performance, and implementing best practices to meet industry standards and customer specifications. The role is responsible for achieving monthly goals including throughput targets. The role supports design production machinery, identifies and recommends solutions related to production problems, materials, processes, and tooling. Additionally, the role is responsible for supporting the work required in implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. This role involves working with production teams, analyzing workflows, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. The expectations are that you will make valuable contributions to engineering projects, value stream mapping, actively participate in project tasks, assist in design, development, testing, and implementation processes, and investigate technologies, and methods to enhance existing processes or develop new ones, while contributing effectively to project outcomes, meeting deadlines, and achieving project goals. The objective is to enhance your ability to identify and address engineering challenges, while implementing continuous improvement and driving toward operational excellence.

Essential Function

  • Promote a zero-injury culture by conducting risk assessments, implementing safety protocols, maintaining clean work areas, and continuously improving safety in manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and industry-specific regulations (OSHA, ISO, UL, IEC, ASTM) in all operations and product development.
  • Design and apply insulation materials through thermal/electrical analysis, document best practices, and troubleshoot failures to ensure optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers, project managers, and field technicians to implement insulation solutions.
  • Perform inspections and quality checks on insulation systems to verify reliability, thickness, concentricity, and mechanical properties.
  • Oversee and support setup, operation, troubleshooting, and optimization of extrusion and manufacturing equipment. Participate in design and commissioning of new facilities and recommend tooling or equipment upgrades.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, production, quality) and participate in meetings to communicate progress and support implementation.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert by providing training and technical support to production personnel.
  • Optimize material usage to reduce waste and improve cost efficiency and has good knowledge of wide range of materials ( XLPE/HDPE/LSZH.)
  • Calculate and design tools for new products and able to read the blue print.
  • Stay informed of advancements in insulation, extrusion technologies, and best practices in electrical transmission engineering.
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures.
  • Provide support with designs, tools and machines used to manufacture products.
  • Review production program equipment, hardware, and tooling, and make recommendations for repairs or replacement.
  • Analyze and provide progress reports of new processes, methods, and production controls.
  • Practice 5 Whys methodology to determine root cause of process issues/failures, defects and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Assist in obtaining necessary certifications or approvals.
  • Follow all company policies, complete required training, and support additional tasks as needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed, such as supporting preventative maintenance tasks, spare parts, and tooling management.

Work Environment

The Insulation / Extruder Engineer position works in a combination of work settings from office, lab to a safety sensitive manufacturing environment. The Insulation / Extruder Engineer will often work directly on the shop floor of the manufacturing facility, near and around large-scale production processes and equipment. The Insulation / Extruder Engineer may also work in Research and Development (R&D) and Quality Control Testing to design and develop new manufacturing processes, testing, and experiments to improve product design and production methods, and to ensure product quality and compliance with standards. The position will spend time in the engineering office performing tasks such as designing manufacturing systems, developing process flow diagrams, analyzing data, creating manufacturing instructions, and collaborating with others. The Extrusion Technician will be responsible for the performance of automated extrusion process systems. This position will be located out of our manufacturing facility in East Syracuse, NY and will report to the Manufacturing Engineer.

Rotating work schedule will reflect:

Group A:

5pm - 5am Week 1 Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday; Off Wednesday - Friday

5pm - 5am Week 2 Wednesday - Friday; Off Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday

Group B:

5am - 5pm Week 1 Wednesday - Friday; Off Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday

5am - 5pm Week 2 Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday; Off Wednesday - Friday

Applicants can expect a base compensation range of $27.00 - $34.00 per hour plus a 10% shift differential for working on second shift. This is the reasonable estimate for this job based on applicable circumstances at the time of posting. Pay could be more or less than the posted range as permitted by law, and commensurate with the applicant's experience, qualifications, and geographical location.

You will make a difference in the following ways:

  • Conduct walk-throughs of the manufacturing facility and reviews performance data of the extrusion process equipment from the preceding shift.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on extrusion systems, process, and ancillary equipment.
  • Support the production floor answering equipment repair and troubleshooting requests related to extrusion process equipment within the plant.
  • Attend the daily Tier II meetings to review operations on the plant floor and assist the operators in the timely repair of the extrusion equipment.
  • Install, sets-up, and rebuild extrusion equipment.

What you bring:

  • Education & Experience: Associate's degree in Electrical Technology or a relevant Technical Certification combined with a minimum three (3) years of relevant technician experience.
  • Knowledge: Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency with electrical hand tools and precision measuring devices
  • Specific Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and repair pneumatic circuits, electrical circuits, electrical machinery, and human-machine interfaces.

***THIS POSITION IS IN MCPHERSON, KANSAS***
**Night shift starting pay $21.74, hours 6:45pm-7am**
As an Extrusion PVC Machine Operator, you will be responsible for operating and monitoring machinery used in the extrusion process to produce high-quality PVC pipes. This position requires attention to detail, technical proficiency, and the ability to work efficiently during 12-hour shifts. Candidates should have some experience with micrometers/calipers and at least one year with a recent employer. The role involves frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, so physical strength and stamina are essential.
**Responsibilities:**
1. **Machine Operation:** Operate extrusion machinery to ensure the production of PVC pipes meets quality standards.
2. **Monitoring and Adjusting:** Regularly monitor the extrusion process, making necessary adjustments to maintain product specifications and quality.
3. **Quality Control:** Conduct visual inspections of the PVC pipes to identify and address any defects or irregularities in the production process.
4. **Material Handling:** Handle and load raw materials into the extrusion machine, ensuring a continuous and smooth production flow.
5. **Maintenance:** Perform routine maintenance on the machinery, troubleshoot issues, and report any malfunctions to the maintenance team.
6. **Documentation:** Maintain accurate production records, including machine settings, output quantities, and any adjustments made during the shift.
7. **Safety Compliance:** Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols, ensuring a secure working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
**Requirements:**
1. **Physical Fitness:** Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and perform physical tasks associated with the extrusion process.

How would you contribute?

This role is a contributing member of our Airlite - Pennsylvania team, located in Nazareth, PA. As a Plastics Extrusion Department Lead you are a key to continued growth and success of Airlite. The Department Lead will oversee the Sheet Extrusion department's daily operations within a plastics manufacturing facility. This role is essential in driving production efficiency, ensuring high-quality output, enforcing safety standards, and managing a team of production employees. They will work closely with upper management to align production activities with overall business objectives and continuously improve department performance.

Essential Duties:
  • Coordinate the activities of production teams across multiple shifts.
  • Develop and implement production schedules to meet company goals, customer demand, and delivery timelines.
  • Manage department resources, including labor, equipment, and materials, to maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • Collaborate with management to develop production strategies aligned with company goals.
  • Oversee and optimize workflows, production schedules, and resource allocation to support growth and efficiency.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and lead initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve quality.
  • Ensure that all production meets established quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement and monitor quality control processes and make process adjustments to address non-compliance or deviations.
  • Conduct regular audits and ensure corrective actions are taken to maintain product quality and consistency.
  • Champion a culture of safety within the department, enforcing safety protocols and ensuring all team members adhere to regulations.
  • Implement and monitor environmental and safety policies to promote a safe, compliant working environment.
  • Foster a positive work environment focused on teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Track and report on department performance metrics, and improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain and review production reports, analyze data, and provide updates on production metrics, quality, and safety.
  • Communicate effectively with senior management, other department leads, and cross-functional teams to align activities and resolve issues.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for escalations within the department, addressing challenges and implementing solutions.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Lead assigned teams through daily operational tasks and success measures. Engage in training, coaching, mentoring, influencing and oversight of assigned work groups. Education / Experience / Certifications:
  • Extensive experience in plastics manufacturing or a related industry, with proven leadership and departmental management experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; further education or certifications in manufacturing or management fields beneficial.
  • Training in lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies may be advantageous.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills Abilities Required:
  • In-depth knowledge of production processes, quality control, and safety standards in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with experience in lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Set up and perform change overs on manufacturing equipment such as extrusion and slitter machines
  • Input specifications when setting up and troubleshooting
  • Occasionally operate a forklift

Machine Operator Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in machine operation, extrusion operation, slitter operation is a plus
  • Familiarity with machine set up, start up, troubleshoot and change over
  • Strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills
  • Experience with operating machines that work with resin and plastic film
  • Ability to work in a non-climate controlled manufacturing environment
