**Responsibilities**
The Hourly Process Tech will guide the overall team's mission in productivity, safety, quality, operations, continuous improvement and team effectiveness.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**
+ Assist with performing changeovers with minimal downtime
+ Ensure all products are running at standard production rate for assigned shift
+ Update, review and provide recommendations to plant Process Engineer for process sheet updates
+ Develop, implement and execute programs to improve overall product quality and line efficiencies.
+ Ability to operate and troubleshoot processes and equipment at an elevated level to resolve complex issues with supporting plant maintenance, automation, and tooling teams
**Technical Knowledge:**
+ Process expert in the areas of sheet extrusion, forming and trimming of thermoformed products.
+ Good understanding of mechanical and electrical principles and applications.
+ Ability to operate thermoforming and extrusion equipment.
+ Demonstrates knowledge of company specific product, material and/or production technological methods and procedures, and capabilities of machines and equipment in manufacturing facilities.
+ Demonstrates advanced mechanical aptitude and abilities.
+ Demonstrates ability to troubleshoot and efficiently identify appropriate course of action through leverage problem solving activities.

**Qualifications**
**Required Qualifications:**
+ Minimum 5 years relevant experience (or similar combination of education and experience).
+ Experience in plastics processing, including forming and extrusion required
+ Experience working with machinery
+ Understanding of tooling, machining, material flow practices for extrusion and thermoforming
+ Strong interpersonal skills to be able to train, communicate, and lead effectively
+ Ability to work a 12 hours COP shift
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Two or four year technical degree or certification
+ Project team coordinator experience
+ Experience with FEA (finite element analysis) and quality gauges to support a zero part defect environment.

The Extrusion Process Technician is responsible for prepping and operating machinery used to produce plastic profile products in a manufacturing environment. Key functions include determining the proper forms, lengths, and diameters for production, prepping extruding machinery, sorting materials, and operating equipment.   • Safely operate a forklift when necessary.
  • Run extrusion processes to standardize scrap rates/start-up, shutdown, and set-up time frames and procedures.
  • Identify labeling products using a bar code system.
  • Evaluate production tooling to recommend repair or improvement.
  • Assist in the training of extrusion production technician trainees.
  • Must be flexible to work any shift to assist in training and maintaining customers’ expectations.
  • Aid Project Engineer in new product development.

Technical Specialist

Location: DeKalb, IL

Compensation: $29.91/hourly

Primary Responsibilities

1. Provide support for R&D trials to develop and test new materials for packaging products which include compounding, extrusion, lamination, and thermoforming

  • Collaborate with R&D teams executing test protocols and experiments providing process characterization and validations on new and revised products and processes
  • Conduct the setup, operation, and maintenance of pilot scale equipment
  • Operate the compounding and sheet extrusion lines for processing different resin materials including PET, PP, HIPS, and bioresins
  • Provide good documentation of process settings and experimental observations; verify part quality using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, Vernier calipers, and Magna Mike
  • Identify and provide feedback on nonconformances as they are encountered
  • Assist in writing and updating standard operating procedures and other documentation as required

2. Provide manufacturing operations support including thermoforming of plastic packaging products

  • Conduct technical support and troubleshooting for manufacturing operations
  • Conduct the maintenance and upkeep of manufacturing equipment
  • Monitor manufacturing variances so that problem solving and improvement opportunities are identified
  • Provide timely resolution of product, process and equipment problems in the form of creative short- and long-term solutions
  • Work effectively with other members of the department/plant to achieve production goals
  • Work safely in accordance with company policies and procedures keeping machines and surrounding area clean while maintaining a safe work environment
Essential Functions

Uphold the company's high standards by ensuring that all products and services delivered adhere to Toppan Alloyd's policies and exceed quality requirements

Cross train with thermoforming production, machinery, and tooling to efficiently work in those areas as needed

Demonstrate an ability to think strategically, meet customer schedules and adapt to changing priorities

Any other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

Position requires operating vacuum and pressure forming machines, extrusion machines, dryers and crystallizers

Working with surface heights above 40"

Lifting, pulling, or pushing up to 65 pounds

Standing 8-plus hours per day

Exposure to hazards can include energy isolation, electricity, pinch points, moving machine parts, and fork truck traffic

Qualifications

Bachelor's or associate's degree in mechanical, polymer, or plastics engineering or other related engineering field

Minimum of 5 years of experience in a plastics manufacturing environment, preferably sheet extrusion for thermoforming

Strong technical background in plastics, resins, and material handling

Proven problem-solving ability, good documentation skills, and good manufacturing practices

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
