What You'll Do
As a Veterinary Ophthalmology Technician at MVA, you'll play a vital role in assisting our Ophthalmologist and the entire care team with diagnosing and managing various eye conditions. Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing patients for examinations and procedures, such as pupil dilation and administering topical medications while ensuring patient comfort.
- Collecting thorough patient histories and performing initial ocular exams, including measuring intraocular pressure (IOP) and assessing tear production.
- Assisting with specialized diagnostics like slit-lamp biomicroscopy, tonometry, and ocular ultrasound, as guided by the Ophthalmologist.
- Monitoring anesthesia and sedation during procedures such as electroretinography (ERG) or surgery.
- Providing post-procedural care , including administering medications, cleaning ocular discharge, and giving instructions for at-home care.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed records of diagnostics, treatments, and patient progress to ensure continuity of care.
- Fostering a clean, organized workspace and ensuring that ophthalmic instruments and supplies are appropriately maintained.
- Participating in ongoing training and case discussions to stay current on the latest ophthalmic techniques and best practices.

Anticipated Schedule
We are currently hiring for two full-time Ophthalmology positions , each with its own schedule:
- Position 1: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday - 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
- Position 2: Monday-Thursday - 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM

General Summary
The primary role is to assist the Optometrist with eye examinations and patient eye care, including conducting pre-testing or special testing, intaking patient history information, and guiding patients throughout the eye care and clinical experience.
Essential Functions
Prepare patients before the examination by gathering information about the patient's vision and medical history, explaining the exam process, and documenting all needed information in the patient's record
Able to work well with technology and various clinical instruments, taking measurements, and administering tests to determine the visual capabilities of the patient in preparation for the vision examination
Perform contact lens insertion; educate and train patients on contact lens insertion and removal
Order contact lenses of various types of materials and designs, and manage contact lens trials inventory
Administer topical ophthalmic and dilation medications
Scribe for the doctor and translate as needed
Prioritize patient care and patient flow while communicating effectively with doctors, staff, and patients
Perform, under the direction of the Optometrist, some therapy exercises or procedures with the patient

- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from IJCAHPO must be obtained within 6 months to a year from the hire date.
- Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) preferred.
