+ Directs fabrication operations so that production and budgetary goals are consistently met. Oversees and monitors the operations for the purpose of ensuring that production schedules are met and quality standards are maintained. Determines equipment availability and capabilities to efficiently schedule, coordinate, and move fabrication orders through the facility to meet customer expectations. Coordinates shop activities with sales.
+ Instructs and monitors staff regarding safety issues. Ensures that the workplace is safe and in compliance with OSHA regulations and applicable fire codes.
+ Makes requests for repairs and equipment as needed for shop.
+ Ensures accurate and safe loading and unloading of trucks.
+ Manages inventory loss (scrap) through the production process. Monitors rebar inventory.
**Nature and Scope**
+ Solutions require analysis and investigation.
+ Achieves planned results by decisions and actions based on professional methods, business principles, and practical experience.
+ Manages a group or team of professional individual contributors and/or indirectly supervises support staff.
**Work Environment**
+ Usually located in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors causing moderate physical discomfort, such as dust, fumes, or odors.
+ Most of the time is spent sitting in the same position or standing/walking and/or there is some requirement to lift or handle material or equipment of moderate weight (8-20 pounds).
+ Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.
**Education and Experience**
+ Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 7+ years of experience in a related field. May require certification. Advanced degree may offset less experience in some disciplines.

As a Fabrication Manager you will be responsible for managing 25+ associates in a $20 Million dollar branch, ensuring a safe environment, scheduling work, meeting production expectations, managing and/or performing equipment repair and maintenance, managing workflow for the fabrication department, training and managing quality standards, setting expectations for safety, quality, and productivity.
Establishes operational plans with measurable contribution towards the achievement of results of the job function. Focus is on short to mid-term operational plans (e.g., 1 to 2 years). Provides measurable input to new products, processes or standards in operational plans that will have some impact on the achievement of overall function results.
**Responsibilities**
+ Prioritize workflow through the shop and use all resources to implement tasks efficiently and effectively to meet delivery deadlines.
+ Handle all scheduling and/or final assembly scheduling activities in a fabrication facility.
+ Handle coordinating and supervising employees who set up and operate standard machine tools and attachments for various processing operations in the production of parts, assemblies, and complete units.
+ Ensure that all tools and equipment are in good working condition and meet calibration specifications.
+ Identify safety risks and the precautions required to eliminate those risks.
+ Responsible for performance metrics, process improvement, and lean thinking.
+ May be responsible for any of the following activities: maintenance, manufacturing, quality control, engineering, supply and logistics, distribution, accounting, IT, and administration.
+ Perform test to ensure the quality of the pipe and the piping systems.
+ Develop complex operation sequences and provides recommendations for improving efficiency and processes.
+ Maintain production records, reports, and analyzes production data.
+ Participate in leadership meetings and represent associate concerns, policies and guidelines to the management team.
+ Conduct regular associate meetings and daily toolbox talk meetings
+ Represent the organization to customers, associates and leadership as needed.
**Qualifications**
+ 3+ years of direct supervisory/management experience as a job site foreman, fab shop supervisor, or project manager preferred
+ Welding experience is a plus but not required
+ Must have good problem-solving abilities
+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with individual contributors, teams, peers, and leadership
+ Ability to read prints and illustrate detailed knowledge of pipe fitting procedures and skills
+ Previous experience in the mechanical contracting or process piping industry with pipe fitting processes preferred

JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this position is responsible for the daily operations of a fabrication facility, ensuring efficient production, quality control, and adherence to safety standards. In addition, this position will lead the development and implementation strategic future growth strategic plans including the facility’s lean transformation. The successful candidate will lead the Fabrication Plant Team in the development of operational plans based upon corporate vision and goals, to achieve all operational objectives related to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost & People (SQDCP). Key responsibilities include personnel management, production planning, quality assurance, and budget management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reviews and approves adequate plans for the control of planned outputs, budget spending, labor efficiency
- Reviews performance against operating plans and standards. Provides reports to subordinates on interpretation of results and approves changes in direction of plans.
- Responsible to prepare all SQDCP progress measures and activities in format readily available to review with executive leadership team
- Develops roll out plans of corporate operations policy within the manufacturing departments.
- Defines and recommends objectives in each area of responsibility. Develops specific short-term and long-term plans and programs, together with supporting budget requests and financial estimates.
- Reviews and approves cost control reports, cost estimates, and staffing plans.
- Coordinates and collaborates as needed, with other Blue Bird business areas of the corporation in establishing and carrying out responsibilities.
- Reviews and approves the setting of budgets throughout the fabrication business.
- Develops plans for new areas of technology for the Fabrication manufacturing functions along with sufficient planning for areas that support the mission of the Corporation within Operations.
- Reviews and approves the implementation of manufacturing and organizational plans that support the Operations Master Plan.
- Establishes objectives and procedures governing the performance of assigned activities. Issues specific annual objectives to direct team and reviews objectives of the Operations management.

**POSITION SUMMARY:**
The **Research Technical Manager 1 - Fabrication** oversees daily operations in a shared nanofabrication environment, managing staff and user services to ensure safe and reliable access to advanced tools. This position provides technical leadership and training, coordinates cross-departmental projects, and serves as the first point of escalation for operational issues. The RTM 1 evaluates emerging technologies, recommends improvements to service operations, and implements best practices in alignment with University policies. Working closely with faculty, students, and external partners, this role ensures that facility operations support cutting-edge research and long-term institutional goals.
**CORE DUTIES:**
+ Provide strategic planning for own work group; participate with senior managers in higher level strategic planning.Communicate operational objectives and assignments and delegate to staff.
+ Manage the daily operations of an assigned area(s) which include recruiting, hiring, training, developing evaluating and setting priorities of staff, coordinate business, technical, and educational activities for direct reports.
+ Oversee interdepartmental activities, projects and efforts by applying advanced technical and professional knowledge.Serve as the initial managerial escalation point for problems from clients and other staff.
+ Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources. Oversee preparation of periodic financial and technical reports and operating plans.
+ Interface with clients to determine project requirements.Establish service level agreements with clients.
+ Monitor scientific, engineering, and/or technology trends and evaluate emerging technologies to recommend for adoption and implementation.
+ Communicate and implement policies, procedures, best practices, recommendations and guidelines compliance with established University administrative policies and procedures.
**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:**

Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. Advanced degree may be required.

Tesla's Bay Area Prototype Fab and Machine Shop Team is currently seeking a project manager to scale the operational functions of the group.
The Prototype Fab and Machine Shop Team provides engineers and technicians across the organization with fabricated and CNC machined components, as well as insight into manufacturing processes for objective efficiency. Through the Prototype Shop's efforts, we enhance the design components and systems from concept through production by bringing intangible ideas to the physical world. We contribute to engineering projects ranging from concept and pre-production vehicles, energy systems, artificial intelligence, robotics, and other future-facing initiatives.
As Technical Project Manager on the Prototype Manufacturing team, you will function as liaison between our team of skilled craftsmen and the world class engineers we collaborate with across Tesla. We look to you to diligently ensure our resources are being leveraged efficiently in an innovative and dynamic environment to maximize our contribution to key program objectives.
What You'll Do- Collaborate with the Prototype department leads to triage requests from internal engineering teams
- Create, manage, and update project scope, task lists and timelines through Jira ticketing platform
- Facilitate bi-directional team communications & logistics pertaining to deliverable projects
- Assess shifting priorities to reallocate resources as necessary based on direction of leadership
- Procure materials, tooling, consumables, and components for projects
- Foster key vendor relationships and set up vendor accounts as required
- Collect data and track KPI's of projects and shop operations to drive efficiency improvements
- Create reports and presentations on past, current, and future projects for engineering partners and leadership
- Assist with writing technical documents such as SOP's and work instructions
- Identify and facilitate continuous improvements across our shops
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other relevant technical discipline, or equivalent experience
- Relevant experience in manufacturing and/or project management systems and methodologies
- Familiarity with common metal fabrication and machining processes
- Proficiency with GD&T drawings and CAD software
